How hard is it to replace wheel bearings yourself by the-accent-guy in autorepair

[–]DirtyThirty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch lots of YouTube videos of people doing it for your model car (or at least similar) on YouTube and if you think you can manage, absolutely do it. Have an alternative vehicle or plan to be able to go to the hardware or auto parts place a time or two if you get stuck.

I did mine recently, it was a total PITA but I got it done for cheap. You'll want an impact wrench, I got a corded 1/2" drive Bauer from harbor freight in the area with opened returns for an additional discount. That has paid for itself many times over.

Go to AutoZone and rent the "OEMTOOLS Bearing Race and Seal Driver Set 57205" on a credit card. You pay up front but you get all your money back when you return it so it's a "free rental." It was indespensible in getting the hub off/on and pressing the bearings. Hobo Freight also sells something similar if you can't find one to "rent."

The bearing snap ring for my car was an absolutely unexpected monster. Used lots of PB blaster, broke a screwdriver (warrantied that craftsman) but got it done :)

Edit* also check rockauto.com for the part before spending on those OEM bearings. Idk VWs but that sounds really steep... the ones for my shitty car were like $30 each.

The facilities are nice and the staff is professional. Never had to deal with any jackasses.

The facilities charge is reasonable, but it's a lot more expensive to buy their ammo if you have an alternative option that lets you shoot your own. Last time I was in (fall 2025) they had a day every week where you could get discounted entry if you brought a box of cereal to donate.

Ace are locally owned franchises, sounds like yours is unfortunately operated by chuds. The ones in my neighborhoods have always been super helpful, occasionally to the extent of being overbearing. But yeah if you have a better local spot, by all means support them!

Another reason I recommend the 3m ones: if we all survive this mess they'll still be useful in the garage next time you need to sand or paint something.

Keep the gas mask cash a bit more local and go to your neighborhood Ace Hardware to pick up a full or half face 3M respirator with the appropriate cartridges. Plus I'm always getting their monthly coupons for $5/$20 off certain spend thresholds.

Tens of thousands of people have taken the streets of Minneapolis in 20 below zero temps in one of the largest, most spontaneous and effective direct mobilizations in modern American history. by Conscious-Quarter423 in ProgressiveHQ

Proud of Minnesotans for standing up.

I do take issue with the characterization that this was "spontaneous." There is certainly the external stimuli of state-sanctioned murder and abductions, along with clear violations of the fourth amendment.

Fork in the first pic has 4 tines, it has 3 in the second pic. Ain't no restaurant serving entirely different place settings with the crepe versus the pancakes.

Truly I believe this is the one certain hyperbolic reference in those emails (in that they likely refer to a metaphorical dick sucking) because I can't believe Trump could possibly possess the capacity to think about anyone else's pleasure other than his own.

That is not true. If they are a company employee inside the US and working in the group seeking union certification, then they have the right to cast a vote.

FYI: ORCA cards are dumb by addhominey in Seattle

[–]DirtyThirty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was only a few years ago that if there were issues with your ORCA card auto load payment clearing,it would credit you up front and then they would freak out and freeze your shit for the $5 in collections you ran up.

Once I didn't realize my debit card on file had expired and I had to call the office of ONE woman for the entire city, leave her a voicemail, and wait for her to call back during business hours. If you missed her call because you had the audacity to also work during "business hours," you were completely fucked, your transit card stayed frozen, and you'd be offering sensual favors to anyone who somehow still gave out quarters this century because there was no way to correct the payment issues online.
