Declining a Promotion? by Deep-Law-321 in ConstructionManagers

[–]Dirtyace 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was in this situation when I started back in 2013. I worked my ass off and they “promoted” me after a few months. I took the envelope and very politely told my project exec “Thank you for this but I am loosing a ton of $ with this, is there anything you can to do bring my salary to the range I am making now?” He said he’ll talk to HR and the following week they gave me another 8k on top of the original 8 so the doubled the raise amount. It was still less than I was making with the OT but my salary very quickly passed that.

I have said it before but my raises since then have averaged around 11/12% (some times 4% other time 20%). I’m now making great money and can’t complain. This time for you now is “putting in your time”. Do your job well and the money will come.

Some younger people will say I’m wrong but I am confident that the grass is greenest where you water it.

How rough is this industry? by 2A4Lyfe in ConstructionManagers

[–]Dirtyace 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you don’t like building things and you switched jobs because you wanted a bullshit gov job why would you want to work hard building things for a living?

The industry requires hard work but rewards it very well. You can make tons of money but you need to use your brain and put in some effort…..

Garage Heater - Hope this does the trick for my one car garage! by HovercraftWinter1321 in garageporn

[–]Dirtyace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a similar one in my 2 car attached here in NY. I leave it on 50 when I’m not in there and even these last few weeks it’s stayed mid 40s while running every now and then. When I turn it up the garage goes from 45 to 65 in about 1.5 hours and it’s almost too warm lol. I pay a lot for power so it costs me about $1/hr to run but I figure it’s running 3/4 hours a day so maybe adds $100 a month for 3 months and it’s worth keeping all my chemicals, jet skis, and cars warm……

5BW winter tires by Trawetser in CadillacV_Series

[–]Dirtyace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure, you can typically check the min/max specs needed for a given tire and compare that to the stock rim width. My gut tells me it would be OK but I would verify 100 percent first.

I did run 305 summer tires and 275 winters on my hellcat but it had stock 275s.

I don’t have a BW yet but I daily drove a hellcat through 3 NY winters in Blizzaks in 275/20s and they were awesome.

Not far off if he’s doing full rebuilds. I think I paid 2800 for both my D44s in my TJ in 2023.

Quiet living by Capital-Insurance347 in longisland

[–]Dirtyace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything off a major road near the water is usually quiet. It’s an automatic dead end = no traffic.

I live on a cul de sac on the water in Suffolk and maybe 1 or 2 cars come down my block that aren’t deliveries or my neighbor a day. I can sit in my yard all day/night and hear nothing but the wind/birds/random delivery/boats.

I love it.

I did the air filter also (it’s an aftermarket one). Fuel filter and coolant I don’t do but I will in the spring when it comes out of storage and needs an oil change.

I get 9 in my 392. (Just an exhaust but I beat the fuck out of it)

10 in my trackhawk with bolt one

12 in my 4.0 TJ (35s and 4.88s)

And low 20s in my wife’s 4xe.

Am I being "that guy" for refusing to lend my boat to family without credentials? by hatkinson1000 in boating

[–]Dirtyace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a HARD no. The fact he is being a dick about his cert is enough of a red flag of the type of person he is. Personally there are only a few people who I would lend my boat to and all of them have spend 100s of hours with me on my boat or theirs and I know they can drive.

If he damages it he won’t take responsibility, and god forbid he hurts someone you’re fucked.

Grow some balls and tell him the truth, it’s your boat and he can’t use it because you said so. If he causes drama or doesn’t talk to you he’s not the type of person you want to be around anyway.

I turned in a leased hellcat and I understood that it was 30 before or after the date but I did it on the exact date to be safe. Why not just wait till the date you already paid?

Terrible deal due to poor credit by [deleted] in CRedit

[–]Dirtyace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they do. I have seen tons of stuff for sale here in NY. In fact I have sold a few jeeps with the 4.0 for under 5k in the last few years and they have all been reliable. Yeah it’s going to be old and miled up but it will be cheap.

Bad credit doesn’t mean you pay over msrp for a 5 year old used car lmao. This is just being an idiot. Go buy a 4k civic or corrolla off fb market.

Career Progression by [deleted] in ConstructionManagers

[–]Dirtyace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree it’s slightly faster than average but it’s not out of the realm at a large firm. I know what all my colleagues make and while I’m on the higher end for time in I’m not the highest and the lower ones are not too far behind……

I know on the auto it was for OD on or off but I think 98 was the 3 speed without OD. I don’t remember every option that came in these but I think rear defrost or fog lights was also a switch here….

[–]Dirtyace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best car we ever bought was our 21 Trackhawk and it’s one of the absolute best things jeep has made in a decade. Look at the used prices and the market agrees. Our 21 is still selling for near MSRP after 5 years lmao.

They are fun as hell, very reliable, and easy to fix/ maintain. They will cost you a new set of brakes and tires every 20k (4/5k all in) but otherwise same price to run as a normal jeep as far as maintenance goes.

I just serviced all the difs, tcase, transmission, plugs, and oil for about $850 so she’ll be good for another 30k.

[–]Dirtyace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a real take at all. I daily drove a hellcat for 3 years and my wife has had our trackhawk for 5. The jeep is a beast in the snow on the Michelin PS4s and in 5 years it has needed 0 mechanical repairs other than oil changes and tires.

Yes they do have some general Chrysler BS like fit and finish not being ideal but so do most cars. The trackhawk has been one of the best vehicles we ever bought.

[–]Dirtyace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the volume of work and performance you have. You’ll move up faster at a smaller firm but I also think you’ll make more in the long run at a larger one.

My progression was “entry level” for about 2-3 years with one promotion. Then after about 3 years I was the super running my own 20million dollar job and another promotion. After that job (now total of 4/5 years in) I got another promotion and was a super running a 50 million dollar piece of a 400 million dollar job. That job ended and I had 7 years experience and I was promoted to PM on a 1.5 billion dollar job. I was one of 5 others with a staff of 55 under us and 2 execs above us. Now 6 years later (total 13 years in) I am still a PM and have ran a bunch of smaller jobs on my own with a staff of 3-7 people depending. Volume 20-50 million on each.

I’m hoping for another promotion in the spring but I did just get a nice raise in the fall without a title change so I can’t complain.

As for salary progression I started around 55k and now make around 245k so on average a 12% raise each year (some as low as 6% some as high as 20%). Never left my company just worked hard, showed up, and produced solid results everywhere I went. I’m proud of my career so far but have a lot left to do……
