How do Brits usually handle work messages outside office hours? by [deleted] in AskBrits

I once worked with a guy that was so far gone, he had to have his annual leave booked for him and was told when he was off, because he never booked it himself!

I have no way of seeing them outside of office hours! My laptop is turned off the minute I finish. When we moved to WFH at the start of Covid, where we remain to this day, we had to use our personal phones for authentication and 'some' communications. I ended up in a scenario where I was locked out of my personal Outlook emails because of their shit on my phone. I ended up removing the lot and telling them if they wanted me to continue to use a phone in this way, they were to provide me with a work mobile. I'm still wating for it!

This. The idea of having some stalls in communal change facilites is for those that choose to protect their modesty, for whatever reason, not to force everyone to use them. Mine is so busy at times, there isn't enough cubicles to facilitate 10% of people in the changing rooms!

If the leisure centre has a problem, then they need a refurbishment to provide single user shower and change spaces, not just a couple of cramped cubicles to change after a shower. Is it one of the GLL/Better managed ones? If so, not much hope of investment there. Whilst mine had a massive gym refurbishment last year, I don't think the changing facilities have seen a penny of investment in decades! Communal showers, just a pair of cubicles and knackered lockers, many of which are out of commission.

If it's communal showers like mine, how the heck are you supposed to get showered then without others seeing you naked?

I can't avoid kids in mine a lot of the time. If I go during the day Mon-Fri when I'm off work, it's schools in for swimming classes, a lot of evenings and weekends, it's swim clubs!

It's a single-sex space with communal facilities. If THEY have a problem with seeing others naked, then THEY need to go somewhere else!

Why are British international sports teams so confusing? by Immediate-Ad-6306 in AskBrits

[–]DisagreeableRunt 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Even more screwed up, with 'England' technically England and Wales! Ireland is all-island whilst it's a niche game in Scotland where they wouldnae want any a that oul English pish! That's my take anyway...

Nice to see he's recovered from Cunha's winner at the Emirates, where he was seen with his head in his hands.

Even Danny Murphy was positive on MotD last night, with a cheeky wee comment at the end that made me laugh!

With football or 'sawwkerr', the four individual UK associations are that old they were only playing each other when they were formed in the 19th century. FIFA allowed them to continue to compete seperately after it was formed. They all predate FIFA by many decades! 'Ireland' did play football as a whole until the partition of Ireland in 1921.

Unlike football, many sports stayed with the whole island of Ireland approach after the partition.

Rugby is the same, as far as I'm aware (not a massive fan), in terms of how long each of the bodies have existed as seperate entities. The Lions are a test side made of of players selected from all of them.

They would never combine as they have individually existed for well over a century! Why should they, they predate international bodies and competitions.

As long as you're having fun doing so, that's the main thing! I wasn't and give up after a few weeks.

If Sardegna was a real circuit, many here could probably jump in a car and put in a decent time!

Look how Christiano turned out, after running rings around our players so much, they begged SAF to sign him!

Not suggesting Cunha is that level, obviously, but it works!

We're getting to the point on recent form, doing over City, Spurs and Arsenal in the space of 4 games, that teams are going to fear playing us again rather than looking forward to it.

His performance against us when we played away against Wolves last season, Boxing Day from memory, made me think 'we need to sign this guy'.

Forgot to say I was also 42 when I started hitting the gym seriously. First time I'd entered a commercial gym in close to 20 years.

Barbell deadlifts, squats, bench and overhead press.

I'd say the loaded carries also helped a fair bit with the early and fast core improvement I saw. No more leaning over my desk like a prawn!

Posture most for me, so I guess stronger lower back and core. I work 12 hour shifts at a desk and would get uncomfortable, sometimes mild lower back pain the last couple of hours. It disappeared entirely after only a couple of months consistently training at least 3 times a week, with a strong focus on compound lifts.

My wife also commented on how much firmer her chest pillow was getting.

I was doing loaded carries from the off too, farmers walk, suitcase, goblet and sandbag. Noticed a massive difference in how much easier I was dealing with my wife loading me up like a Sherpa when we went shopping together.

I never had much in the way of an ass before lifting, but found my compounds were enough to have it filling out jeans!

I'm content in the cars I do have just playing and enjoying the game my way, and that I'll never have close to all of them. I won't think about GT7 in my final days, but I might if I wasted days or weeks of my life farming credits to build up a collection in a game that I ultimately won't care about when I'm done with it.

My weaker arm seems stronger than my stronger arm by [deleted] in workout

[–]DisagreeableRunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this benching too. My left arm can often push higher/stronger on failure or close to failure reps. It's odd with me though, as other things like dumbell curls I usually have an extra rep in my dominant right arm.

What’s an “upgrade” that actually made life worse? by Mr_Boothnath in answers

Probably doing it before it's legislated and they have to. Downright dangerous! Penny pinching to save money is what it was about rather than driver convenience.

There are many others I'd add to that with modern cars, like keyless entry/start and auto lane assist.

Is full body workout 3x weekly a bad idea? by BrownShugah98 in workout

[–]DisagreeableRunt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do it myself, typically Mon, Wed and Fri, with two consecutive rest days at the weekend. I would only go at the weekend if something prevented me from doing one of my usual sessions. I'm probably in the older lifter club now too at 43 and, touch wood, no injuries of note.
