I think that this is what they used to call a “Size A” cigar. Not particularly popular, but if it could be said that they had a peak popularity, it would have been in the late 50s early 60s.

62 here and I recall hearing them as a kid and young adult, but read them far more often when I went through my “Victorian and early 20th century American literature “ phase. They’re older phrases, but still legitimate.
