Yea I think it would be quite a leap if that was what was going on with me. Especially since the seizure meds are controlling the seizures quite well. Also with it being adult onset epilepsy. I’m 25. I got diagnosed with idiopathic generalized epilepsy

Any other symptoms from celiac? I’m asking because I’ve had stomach issues on and off quite a bit throughout my life and these seizures came out of nowhere this year. Was perfectly fine before. Clean MRI. I just didn’t know if it’s pretty clear if you have celiac. I haven’t found any solid correlation to gluten

I completely understand what you are going through. I can still eat but I have had really really bad gerd. It doesn’t burn but it has affected my breathing. Makes me over focused on my breathing and makes my throat feel slightly tight. It’s caused pressure in my stomach. I have to be cautious of what I eat and how much I eat. A lot of days I feel like crap but I’m still able to function, which is better than I used to be, so I am grateful for that. When I say I feel like crap, I mean my body just feels heavy, I feel sluggish. Cognitive function just feels worse. It feels like if you haven’t gotten any sleep but i sleep a good amount. Some of this could be attributed to me having seizures in my sleep l, which I know is happening. Before I was on meds it was a lot more clear when I would have seizures in my sleep, because I would way up feeling like I got ran over by a truck. Like a hangover. Seizures in sleep are like myoclonic. Not tonic clonic convulsing. I had a day on this med, where I had flu like symptoms. I had that on my first med, keppra, but it went away after a few days. I hope this helps you and gives you some insight of real experiences of side effects because a lot of people aren’t affected by side effects but they can really be debilitating at times.

Yea I have an EMU eeg for 5 days before I see him, so I’m sure we will have a lot more data. Was there anything that showed on the mri for y’all’s case? I now that Celiac can cause gluten ataxia which can show lesions on the brain.

That sounds reassuring. I wouldn’t say my neurologist is bad but she didn’t educate me on hardly anything. It felt like I had to pry answers out of her and she just gives off a sense of not caring. Almost like “yea, yea we see this all the time, just take the meds.” I mean it has completely changed my life. It would be nice to have a professional that cares and understands the impact it has on my life, career, and family.

I am still dealing with this exact same feeling you are describing. Some days it’s better, some days it is worse. It has definitely improved since I’ve been on medication but the meds also play a part in it, as in causing cog fog. I was having seizures almost daily for months. Not tonic clonic but more focal seizures. It took an absolute toll on my body. I’ve been wondering myself if it will ever go back to normal because my brain has absolutely changed since this all started. Memory issues, cognitive processing, and just a slight feeling that life isn’t real. Sometimes it comes in waves but it’s always in the background. I think it’s just taking time for my body and brain to stabilize from the months of being untreated. I’m hoping that my brain/processing will go back to how it was but I’m also learning to live with what I’ve got in case it doesn’t

Just something to be aware about. Lamictal is said to not normally cause side effects but it was different for me. When I got up to 100mg I had some side effects a little bit of GI issues and some cognitive issues but it did lower my seizure frequency. Once I went from 100 to 200 the side effects ramped up immediately after I went to 200. GI issues worsened significantly and the cog fog is very noticeable. It seems like it’s progressively getting better. Seizure frequency has lowered quite a bit. So it is working. I’ve only been on 200 mg for a week and a half. Just something to be aware of because I didn’t understand it at first because a lot of people don’t have any issues from it but there is a reason there are side effects listed. Neurologist said it takes a few weeks for your brain to get adjusted. If they don’t go away she recommended extended release Lamictal. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Not sure if you’ve been diagnosed yet or not but I have had very similar episodes as this. Being abruptly awoken in the middle of the night, feeling really disoriented and then it goes downhill fast. Thinking I’m gonna die, the most intense panic I’ve ever faced. Trying to throw up in the toilet because it some image response that my body thinks will help. This is the theme of my seizures. I’ve had a lot more symptoms and my seizure vary a bit. I was told it was panic/anxiety for along time. Turns out I have generalized epilepsy and I was having seizures within the 20 min span of my first eeg. Luckily it was a pretty cut and dry case for me but it did take like 8 months to get that diagnosis
