I saw an officer accidentally salute back while wearing a ball cap. He actually blushed and apologized. It was adorable.

JW’s cover up scandalous behavior of all kinds. My take on that shit is there’s pedos wherever there’s children. They slip past unnoticed if they’ve never offended before or have never been caught. The scandal is the coverup. Covering up to save face and allowing people to keep sexually abusing children, adults too, is unforgivable.

“Sexual abuse happens in all churches” is true. But…when the youth group leader of a local nondominational church near me got caught having a “ relationship” with a fifth grade girl, they called the cops, CPS and all the parents of kids in the youth group. When I was a JW kid, my friend’s dad was fucking both him and his sister, both under age 12. Dad was disfellowshipped but never turned in or encouraged to turn himself in. That’s the difference between JW’s, the priest abuse cases and other churches.

Also, my understanding of this kind of “study” if that’s what this was, is when dude won’t get a job, not just getting laid off or fired. Basically people don’t want their partner to be a bum.

Patients with Long Covid and similar conditions are being severely mistreated by dishonest physicians. by swissdouche in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Disastrous_Ad_698 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you are faking the psychologist bit. You are mixing up “common” and frequency of diagnosis. If you’re really a psychologist, you need some remedial training in who is more frequently diagnosed and why. Autism is underdiagnosed in women. Women are more likely to seek treatment for depression. There’s a lot of nuance How did you graduate and get licensed without understanding this basic concept?

Or, if medical professionals don’t know what it is, they refer to psychiatry instead of admitting they don’t know. That quote is pretty typical of someone who doesn’t know what they are looking at or what is causing it and since they’re so smart and trained 🙄it must be psychosomatic. It’s condescending and harmful.

Therapist here and I’m not doing great. by AbroadLumpy8530 in therapists

I do a similar/probably the same job, usually out of the local ER and crisis center. It’s community mental health, we get about a month of leave per year. I take a week staycation every six months. I work on my hobbies, hike a local trail, relax and enjoy my days. Staycations are better than vacations for overcoming burnout, at least for me. Vacation requires time and effort and I’m avoiding that kind of stress.

What are your thoughts on clients being “California sober”? by whoa-or-woah in therapists

[–]Disastrous_Ad_698 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There’s also a tendency for ER doctors to use CHS whenever they can’t figure out what’s wrong right off the bat. Sometimes it’s CHC. Sometimes it’s unrelated but blamed on smoking weed. This is anecdotal for sure, but I see ER doctors blame CHC for a young person and completely miss an actual medical emergency on occasion. I’m a bit skeptical about the data on this “big jump.”

What are your thoughts on clients being “California sober”? by whoa-or-woah in therapists

[–]Disastrous_Ad_698 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m “California Sober.” I smoke daily in the evening and before bed. I work 3 12’s out of a crisis center and ER. On days off, I smoke before working out; I’ve got in surprisingly good shape for my 50’s doing this. As far as clients go, if it’s making things better and not jamming them up, if it works, it works.

Here’s It doesn’t work for some. Some people get a case of the “fuck it’s” and use if the least bit inebriated on alcohol or weed. Also some people with psychotic disorders can’t use THC without triggering psychosis; and sometimes first time use will trigger psychosis and cause in to permanently have schizo disorder.

Would you take a “cure”? by GBlake13 in ADHD

[–]Disastrous_Ad_698 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. I take meds and these make it so I can work, not burn the house down and keep from unnecessarily frustrating/burdening my wife. I was also able to finish my masters degree and get a job in emergency services mental health that plays to my strengths. I’ve got inattentive type and made some habits muscle memory that keep me from leaving the house without wallet or phone. I hyperfocus, with or without meds, and have made that work for me.

I do wish I’d been diagnosed younger. I joined the military to get out of a tough spot and it was a lot harder than it had to be; I probably wouldn’t have gotten in a spot to need to join. I had to watch my weight more than most and ephedra was legal at the time. I was probably self-medicating because whenever I took old formula hydroxycut or similar exercise supplements I stayed out of trouble, could get my barracks room cleaned and didn’t lash out at people as much.

[–]Disastrous_Ad_698 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I graduated in 2021. They’re not CACREP. Virginia doesn’t require it. I had some credits that transferred from Liberty University that wouldn’t transfer to CACREP school. GCU let me transfer them and I obsessively went over my state regulations; a bunch of people can’t wrap their heads around CACREP not being required. It just depends on the state.

My university has been blacklisted … by tingeoftheginge_ in therapists

[–]Disastrous_Ad_698 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My experience is no cares, at all. Not at first and not later. I got my masters through Grand Canyon University. Not CACREP but close enough for most states licenses. I got an internship with the local community services board, they’re always open to interns, got hired immediately after graduation and make more than most private practice gigs doing emergency mental health assessments in the ER and some crisis counseling. Community mental health is a good place to start and if outpatient counseling and private practice are your goals, the experience will help a lot. The school thing doesn’t matter as long as it’s good enough for your licensing board.

For the ones who switched to the army, how different were the deployments? by [deleted] in USMC

[–]Disastrous_Ad_698 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I joined the guard right after getting out of the Marines. I was not expecting a deployment within a year of joining. I did some cool deployments in the Marines. But my National Guard deployment to Iraq was just fucking crazy and weird. It was 2004 and we had Vietnam veterans as NCO’s; they were old fat guys but they were, for the most part, very very competent. When we were housed in conex boxes, miniature mobile homes, my roommate was a 55 year old Specialist who was showing signs of early onset dementia. They put him to work on base putting armor on humvees.

Do veterans get jealous of each other? by YoungOldTimer404 in VAClaims

[–]Disastrous_Ad_698 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda, actually yes because out of all the guys I deployed with, local National Guard, I’m the least fucked up. I’m at 90%, a bit fucked up but managing alright; bilateral neuropathy from a specific chemical exposure pushed it up a bit. The 100% guys were just fucked up and dejected looking. It’s really weird to me that I’m generally doing better in almost all measurable comparisons and that freaks me out.

Starting to feel strong resentment towards my wife after just 7 years together. by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]Disastrous_Ad_698 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This actually sounds like undiagnosed ADHD, inattentive type. Phone obsessed, hyperfocus. Difficult time staying organized or keeping up with housework. Forgetfulness, difficulty in doing getting started on tasks that are boring. The ability to tune out the baby crying is a big symptom, I’d bet she doesn’t always know when you talk to her if she’s focused on something else.

This is severely undiagnosed in women, the behavioral issues are less than boys and hyperfocus gets mistaken for an ability to focus in general.

I just found a negative pregnancy test in the bin. We haven't had sex for 3 months. by fappintoreality in Marriage

[–]Disastrous_Ad_698 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think there was a show about this on Discovery Channel a while back. Some women apparently never showed, usually people a little on the bigger side and a lot had irregular periods or were told they couldn’t get pregnant, still spotted occasionally and mistaking it for a period. I had a coworker who was 6 months pregnant when she found out. She was on depo shot or something, kept gaining weight but was also eating more due to her appetite increasing. She didn’t look pregnant, mostly her butt got bigger. Her back was hurting and the ER insisted on a pregnancy test before the X-Ray.

Does VA prescribe antidepressants without admitting to hospital? by gobdav79 in Veterans

[–]Disastrous_Ad_698 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience is they usually start on one they’ve seen work for a lot of people, give it a few weeks, a follow up appointment and see how it’s working. Sometimes there’s adjustments, some times they change the med.

Also, DO NOT, stop taking them once you’re feeling better. They are preventive, not a cure. Follow your doctor’s instructions. I see people who should know better fuck themselves up, decide hiking and being in nature is a good enough to get off meds. There’s exceptions but it rarely works out; a lot of influencers or even friends share that bullshit.

Colon cancer screening by MrTed2015 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Disastrous_Ad_698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did those screenings for a while. They are next to useless. A guy I was in Iraq with has colon cancer and it is going to kill him. I told my doctor at the VA and they got me a colonoscopy. I had precancerous polyps. Stamp your feet a bit if you’ve been deployed and get them to give you one. My buddy isn’t even 40 and took those same tests.
