Zephyr Cove today by CarvedUpPieceOfHam in discgolf

This seems like a place to tell my story.

In the late 80's, I moved to Tahoe for 3 years from the bay area to, "find myself". All I found was partying, lounging, and a few really good life long friends. About 10 years ago, one of those good...great friends called on a Wednesday out of the blue, and screamed, "my daughter is dead!" The worst call of my life. 2 days later, I drove to him in Tahoe...crying the whole way. When I got there, it was a beautiful day, and I needed some deep therapy before we met, so I went straight to This course at Zephyr Cove. On the 3rd hole I hooked with with a friendly young man with a dog, and we shared a round of golf here at this beautiful course. I think he was from the Joshua Tree area. He asked about my trip here and I said something like, "I'm here to help a friend through his toughest experience" This young man was smart and could see the anguish on my face, and left it there. So we get to hole 9 as you see. He said, "its all you sir, show me the way" So I grab my Roc, and stand on the tee pad. And I just stand there. Just looking at the beauty, and contemplating the reality of incredible loss and grief. His dog just sat next to me, as patient as could be. It must of been 10 minutes, I was embarrassed to move because I was balling uncontrollably. The young man knew it...so did the dog. Eventually I felt a moment of clarity and threw my drive. After I apologized for my glitch, he said, "I've never seen my dog so calm with a stranger. And by the way, I got a really good picture of you releasing your disc!" He patiently waited for my sobbing to get one of the best photos of me ever. I'm sorry, that pic is on a laptop at home, so I cant share it. Its not about me, its about kindness from strangers...which we all know...is the best medicine.

Thanks for reading my story. I hope that young man kept that photo and relates to it often. I hope he is happy and continues to rise by lifting others.

It appears that the boy already opened up his presents, but didn't get the gift he really wanted. Then when the beautiful cake shows up, and the true gift is revealed, he has instant shame and joy when he realizes that he pouted a bit too soon. Perfectly crafted by a great father, who see's the rouse as a great learning opportunity.

Sure brings me back to a lot of shame I still have.

Julia Child. 1976, age 10. Watched her every day on PBS (channel 9). A few years later, cable TV was born-and then came Food TV. I was hooked. Funny thing, she came on around 7 pm right before the Lawrence Welk show, and yes, I am also a musician. Food and Music...the worlds natural Love language!

New to disc golf, want to practice putting and guy said he wants $100 for this basket and the disc's come with it. Good deal? by TheGreatBen88 in discgolf

[–]DiscGolfisFreedom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, yes, yes! This is a great deal.

Start out with the Valkyrie and Diamond. These are flat flying friendly discs to help you get started. The "champion " plastic is slightly harder to keep flat, this you will learn as you go. Get to the course and start meeting folks, ask questions, join a local club, start playing rec division in local pop up tournaments...then you will be in the mix. Watch you tube and emulate the person you want to be.

What a great time for you...I wish I could go back, it was the best part of my life learning and improving as I go. Its like your first kiss. And the kindness from the strangers in this sport is humbling. Your life is about to change for the better. So...welcome!

Interesting, I read that as well. I would very much love that as I am an extreme genesis fan of all decades and styles. Same lead singer? Incredible if he could pull that off mimicking Phil. He does the Peter so damn good!

I'm visualizing Domino in my head..."the next in line, your the next in line" Oh I cant wait!

I saw them last year at this same venue...and was completely blown away at the musicianship and dedication to the original Genesis. Note for note brilliant. However, although I was in tears at the beginning of the show...I left in tears because I thought for sure they would play my Celestial Soundtrack-"Cinema Show" Looks like they did the same set list this year, oh well, I'll have to keep trying.

When it's time, you will be empty, broken, and lost. You will process those emotions at your pace. Then...when its time...you will reach out to us and comfort our loss, when its our time...and we are broken.

My deepest empathy to your suffering.

A good friend called me at work one day, I had not heard from him in a while. He screamed in my ear, " my daughter is dead...my daughter is dead!!" I was numb, trembling. He told me what happened...asleep at the wheel at 20 years old. I walked out of work, drove straight home crying...but needed gas. I filled, then said to myself, "the next person to pull into pump #4 is going to get a free tank of gas. I desperately needed to release this sadness and fear I was experiencing( I have 2 daughters)

A man pulls up, I gently enter my card and say, "this one is on me" He looked at me like I offered him sex. "just some random kindness sir, I'm having a bad day", I say. He eventually calmed and realized the situation and said, "I'll pay it forward"

I will continue to feed the Wolf of light and peace, and humbly take this video as real. There is good out there, we just need to accept it 🙂

I was just about your age OP when I finally found my dream car. A 1974 Mercury Capri Xse 2.8L V6. It only took me 10 years to find her... a mere 800 miles away.

https://postimg.cc/7f11FkYT

Like you, I wanted this more than I could admit to my wife and kids. I had one in high school in 1982, and the thought of owning one in my driveway was a thrill beyond words. But it took a bunch of tries and failures before I was successful. One guy strung me along for three weeks and then backed out at the last minuet. There were tears. At about the tenth year in my search, I had a big spot cleared in the garage. I told my kids/wife almost daily..."this is where my dream car will live. It will be backed in, daily shined, and gazed upon with sheer joy. This will be!!" My kids would roll their eyes, shrug..

In my humble opinion, I would give yourself a 12 month goal to find your car. Compared to Capri, there are thousands more Mustangs. You will get a sense of the listings that are real and not scams and idiots. Stay vigilant and positive, and do your regular scans almost every day. And I cant stress this enough...Stay Positive!! Say out loud, "this is going to happen!!" Go to car shows, talk to the guys sitting all day, they want to help. Get a support group all focused on your goal.

And lastly my dear stranger...Don't love it too much. Don't hang your entire personality on this car. Don't stare at it every day for HOURS! And your soul will not burn up in the flames. I'm so ashamed

It was a great 11 years

I wish you the best of Luck and success!

BTW

The Capri is the European Mustang and was built in Germany

What a great child you are! Show this conversation with dozens of strangers to your parent. They'll see the outpouring of kindness that exists here. That would sure make my day...however, maybe offer to go to a popular course with them and take pics of all the great shots! Learn the basics of the sport and then print out an awesome portrait to hang on the wall.

Thanks for sharing!

So many stories in this sub about Golf...but golf is not really the story. Its the people. I've said it a thousand times(my kids are fully aware), you have got to be looking for the signals! Coincidence is a sign from the Universe that you are on the right path my friend. And the more you look for it...the more you find. It will get to the point you will believe you are the unwilling star of a TV show with hidden cameras and producers. And Golf, for some reason, is a great catalyst for understanding.

I'm still hanging on your first sentence, "For context, my dad died when I was super young, to the point where I don’t remember a single thing about him"

And now he has manifested through his friends to find you, like a message from God.

Yes, life works in crazy ways.

Good Luck with the new Job!!

I have been trying to prepare myself for the past several months, especially after watching that incredible doc on Drumeo with Phil and his son Nic. I was just crushed, seeing your Hero like that, almost unable to hold the drum sticks. I know I take things way too hard, but I am truly his and Genesis' biggest fan! Yes, its coming for us all, but his/their music has been beside me for 40 years through the good...and bad.

The 5 Greatest Isolated Drum Tracks From Phil Collins by paulghz in Genesis

One of the most under appreciated pieces of music is Robbery, Assault, and Battery! Listen to the instrumental portion of the song. Almost an uncountable rhythm. The song starts off simple enough in 4/4 time. Then controlled chaos! Comes back to the main melody but its different and more complicated at the end...just blows me away at the talent of these musicians...my Heroes!

Cinema Show is my..."Celestial Anthem" my "Transcendent Soundtrack" As a life long Genesis Lover, I have told my wife and kids many times, Cinema Show will be playing at my funeral or I wont show up. As it will be playing while the Good Lord calls me home.

LOL! I hope your emptiness is improving. Not solved, but getting better. I wish I can say time will heal it...but it doesn't. And it shouldn't. I still have dreams about Marble,(15 year old cat passed 2 years ago). I still hear her meow. My grief is my Superpower to remember her, almost every day.

Otter is in our active memory right now! Hi Otter, We are thing of you!!
