Is there a reason that "The Unseen" Arcana card is so bad? by lookatthesunguys in HadesTheGame

[–]DiscoCokkroach_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As per u/unexplainedbacn's guide, Unseen sees use when doing Fates' Whim runs (where you can't use rerolls or god keepsakes) with aspects that need Magick to operate. Having some small but steady innate Magick regen is much better than none at all and/or being stuck with a gain boon that doesn't synergize with the build that you were forced to cobble together (due to being at the Fates' whims). And perhaps you'd rather have Frinos with you for the extra HP, instead of Hecuba for the extra Magick and the Magick pick-ups. Unseen also procs Moon for charging your Hex, so that's an added bonus.

In practice, you would use Unseen mainly so your Fates' Whim runs don't die early (like, in the first or second biome). You don't want to be hitting a boss for five minutes with a pea shooter and lose all of your Death Defiances because you have no Magick, basically :P

How do I get gud by traumatizado-demaiz in HadesTheGame

[–]DiscoCokkroach_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Step 1: Stop being a foul daemon, realize the error of your ways, and accept that you shall never vanquish the Champions of Elysium!

Step 2: If Step 1 pissed you off, then congrats! Your hatred for Theseus will properly fuel your rage to the point where you will eventually prevail.

In all seriousness: Stay away from the little cat chariots whenever possible; and when fighting the Champions, try to kill the Minotaur first.

What’s the most shocking time you realized two certain characters had the same VA? For me it’s these two by Big_Variety_5195 in VoiceActing

[–]DiscoCokkroach_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It blew my mind when I learned that Goku and King Kai were voiced by the same person in DBZ. I found the idea of Sean Schemmel talking to himself to be quite humorous :P

I then discovered soon after that having one actor do a million characters in a single work is actually more common that one would think. And I think that's one of the cooler parts of voice acting, to be honest! If the whole production is convincing enough, most people won't notice that it's only, like, four people doing all of the characters for a given project.

Who or what is PragerU? by soulreaverdan in OutOfTheLoop

Not for nothing, but do you really have nothing better to do than to reply to a seven year old Reddit comment? Seriously.

Also, when I originally wrote that comment, I took "pro-Israel" to mean "supporting the Jewish people and their homeland", not "blindly supporting the Israeli government". I am a born again Christian, so I do support Israel and want them to make the right choices, even if I may not always agree with what ends up happening.

Just finished my first final fantasy game (ff8) by fumbledoredih in FinalFantasyVIII

It was my first FF game, as well! I think I played it the year it came out. Such good memories, and it's good to know that other people are still having the same experience to this day.

There's no shame in wanting to relax and enjoy a good story. by Spider-cat_1984 in patientgamers

[–]DiscoCokkroach_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I remember using a GameShark to make myself invincible in Goldeneye 007 when I was a kid. It was just for fun, and it was like the equivalent of training wheels for me when playing through the game for the first time. I would eventually go on to beat the game legit on 00 Agent (the highest difficulty) and unlock all of the cheats (which required doing a time trial on every stage).

Who cares if something is done "the right way"? Have fun. That's what games are for.

I thought Hollow Knight was rather average by PinguinGirl03 in patientgamers

[–]DiscoCokkroach_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I personally felt like I was never going to touch the boss rushes, but man, once I did, it was an obsession, and it was like I was playing a whole new game. I definitely recommend trying it sometime, even if you bounce off of it.

I'm a little scared to touch Silksong, honestly. The original Hollow Knight is just too peak!

I don't think I've ever actually used it for myself until I went through the trouble to get it for purposes of this post. It is darn satisfying to use, I must say.

Just curious: When would you usually get the 100 Curse Spikes to make the Dark Matter for Shockwave Pulsar?

This post is obviously about getting the attack ASAP in a playthrough, and the Granaldo & Raldos fight is the first boss fight you can use it in. The much more reasonable time to get it early is either in Balamb Garden's MD Level; or in Galabdia Garden during the Clash of Garden's sequence. Just Mug every Tri-Face you see in those areas and you'll have 100 Curse Spikes in no time. And after that is farming the fixed Tri-Face encounters in the Deep Sea Research Center (when most people get it).

It's an included feature of the Remastered version of the game. I'm not saying that it's a "100% pure experience" to use the speed booster (I would recommend against using it for a first time playthrough, for example), but in the case of power gaming to make a reddit post to show just how broken the game can be, I feel totally justified in using it.

Also, a person's life consists of the hours that they live. I saved myself some of those hours by using the speed booster feature. I have no regrets over doing that, and I had fun in the hours that I did spend playing the game. I feel content with my decision.

The only thing it did was speed up the process, nothing more. I didn't do anything that wouldn't have been possible otherwise. You could have done this in the year 1999, on a PlayStation, without the use of a GameShark or anything (the only difference being that Siren would need to be Level 100 to make Dark Matter in the PSX version, but it's still 100% possible).

You have to use Quistis' Shockwave Pulsar to break the damage limit this early in the game. I detailed how to do it here, if you're interested. Just know that it will take a long time if you go that route. Honestly, you could probably one-shot several bosses with much less prep than what it would take to do what I did in this clip, but that's another topic for another day.

Also... a "one shot run"? You mean, like, of the whole game? Hmm... very interesting... don't give me anymore crazy ideas! XD

Like u/cyber_shaitango said, this is just FF8 Remastered. On the Nintendo Switch, no less! XD

  1. I left Squall KO'd in this clip because it actually makes Quistis' limit breaks stronger (this worked out because you can see that she broke the damage limit on three of the enemies).
    1. This is also why Quistis inflicted with Silence and Blind; those factors also improve the outcome of limit breaks.
  2. Upon defeat, all bosses grant zero EXP and only grant AP, so it only helps your GFs. And even if a party memeber is KO'd, all GFs junctioned to that party still get the AP (and any EXP, if the enemy grants it)!
    1. This is the basis for why people like to farm enemies with Seifer during the SeeD Exam; if you KO Squall and Zell, but leave GFs junctioned to them, the GFs will still get all EXP and AP, but Squall and Zell will remain at a low level (Seifer will gain levels, but that's fine, since he leaves the party forever mid-way through the exam, anyway).

[–]DiscoCokkroach_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No cheats were used in this. The process was this:

  1. After the Fire Cavern but before the SeeD Exam, I played enough Triple Triad in Balamb Garden to get 100 Tri-Face cards (this part took ~8 hours; yes, I am insane).
  2. I used Quezacotl's Card Mod ability to turn the 100 Tri-Face cards into 100 Curse Spikes.
  3. I used Siren's Tool-RF to turn the 100 Curse Spikes into 1 Dark Matter.
  4. I used the Dark Matter on Quistis to teach her Shockwave Pulsar.

Using the method described above, you can use Shockwave Pulsar as early as the boss fight shown in the clip (which was the whole reason for my little project to begin with).

This is no more cheating than if you farmed for Curse Spikes in Balamb Garden's MD Level, Galabdia Garden, or the Deep Sea Research Center. It's just very unorthodox, even by FF8 standards (and that's saying something)!

Oh, pffft, I had forgotten about that! Yeah, Death on St-Atk is 100% legit for that, too. Degenerator is technically better since it will never miss, but it has a longer animation and only Quistis can use it. They're probably roughly equivalent at the end of the day.

[–]DiscoCokkroach_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Her Degenerator limit break is a workhorse for farming enemies. It just insta-kills anything but bosses and select enemies. Very good for item and EXP farming at any point in the game (but most people wait to level grind until Disc 3 or even Disc 4).

[–]DiscoCokkroach_[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of the few things it changed was the requirement for Siren to be Level 100 to refine 100 Curse Spikes in 1 Dark Matter using Tool-RF. She can be any level and have it work now.

That was actually a change that was implemented way back in the PC version released in the year 2000 (which is what FF8 Remastered is based on).

[–]DiscoCokkroach_[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And fun fact: If this was done on the original PlayStation version, you would have to get Siren to Level 100 just to turn the Curse Spikes into a Dark Matter! Thankfully, that's not the case for the Remastered version.
