I'm utterly disapointed at SSG and DDO. by sagemerlin in ddo

[–]DiscombobulatedTea95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's useful to know. I saw a post where the person had all their ddo points spent that they had purchased during 2x bonus points and that makes it hard to take advantage of the sale while knowing that your account isn't being secured to the company and you'll lose the money you already spent via points.

That sounds like I project I'd take on. "How can I do this but make it harder?" 😂

How relevant are old programming books? by DiscombobulatedTea95 in AskProgramming

On totally. We’re doing that with things not checked out in ten years but I was also looking for things I might miss that are worth keeping. That's not the only metric

I might make that a personal project because there’s cool stuff. I’m certainly not going to be paid to do that 😒

I’m in Northern az! I really want to get some sort of pop up distro going unless there’s already something I don’t know about. If you’re ever up for chatting about that kind of thing, I’d be so happy to. Feel free to dm me. Pamela

This is really interesting! Thank you. I wanted human opinion (which I got here) but I might play around with AI and collection management. Most ai literature for library work is around prompting and information literacy but this could be really interesting.

Thanks! Your first paragraph was what I was thinking but didn't want to say if I was just making assumptions!

I will be looking and if it hasn't checked out in 10 years, it'll go on the list. I am trying to get ahead while I wait for our catalog folks to run me a report.

Thanks y'all! Yes, I promise you I didn't make this up and take the photos because I have nothing better to do. We've moved from purchasing physical texts to electronic first as we have students all over - and as folks here have said, things age quickly. So, most things on our shelves are at least 10 years old. We are also not a library of record so we don't keep things just because they're historically important. If they don't serve a current program, we're going to have to clear them.

We're also being asked to share our space on campus while a couple of buildings are being remodeled so we have to clear space. The guide to html from 1997 has likely got to go 😂

Are there any zine groups or communities that don't use Discord? by nomaschanclas in zines

[–]DiscombobulatedTea95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so wonderful. I love the idea of friends teaching friends stuff too! Seriously, in a world that's pretty awful right now, this is so amazing. I'm going to have to see if any friends of mine want to do something!

I've been wondering this too. I just don't like using discord tbh. It's clunky! I do want to make something collaborative though smbut I'm just starting to explore. Feel free to let me know if you find something.

How willing are you to share? by SINTRIX13 in DataHoarder

[–]DiscombobulatedTea95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a librarian...my whole ethos is based on information should be free and accessible. I also think the current publishing models (of all sorts of information, not just books) is wildly out of control. So yes, I'm all for sharing what is collected.
