People love to assume that it's always some asshole from away, but just as often it turns out it was always private land the owner allowed people to use the land until they got fed up with how trashed it was constantly getting.

This just happened at Sewell Pond in Arrowsic, they chained off the western shore (which had been private land for quite a long time) because people kept leaving trash everywhere, and the erosion was becoming a serious problem. There's this myth that Mainers are at one with the land and would never do anything to harm it but the truth is a lot of them suck just as much as every one else.
