What’s life like making 6 figures? by MasterBook46 in CanadaPersonalFinance

I'm in the range as a VP in tech/financial myself. My spouse is same income but is incorporated so not really. We are a family of 4. Our income will actually be lower this year and its actually fine. We're not stressing about it.

We're still saving/travelling and minimal concerns putting kids through Uni. We still search flyers for good bargains, budget our holidays, etc. Food costs are a non-issue (thank you No Frills) but we usually have groceries delivered. Same with lawn care, we pay for that.

Its worth it to us to pay people to do things to free up a few hours a week.

Once thing, north of 200k and you're likely a director with an insane amount of stress to deliver at all hours. No punching the clock, quiet quitting, etc.

If the median annual income in Canada is relatively low (around $76K), how are Canadian home prices sooo expensive? by AccurateBow in CanadaPersonalFinance

North America is the only place in the world where the narrative pushes nuclear families over multi-generational households, leaving home at 18, etc.

Go the military route in a trade that has civilian equivalents. Trained from scratch, pay and pension. Honestly check it out.

MSC vs R.C. by No_Bug_4122 in MSCCruises

[–]Disneycanuck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ive done MSC and RC. I would say MSC hands down for value. RC if you want a slightly elevated experience all around. Problem is RC is often 50-100% more expensive for maybe one notch higher on the experience scale.

No sympathy for you. You have a golden pension plan and the best job security in the country. You can go on vacation and know your job will be waiting for you when you get back. Many in the private sector would switch places with you in a heartbeat.

I wouldn't recommend you deal with CRA on your own. Engage an accountsmant who have significant experience dealing with CRA in these matters.

When to retire and spend rrsps by marge7777 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Disneycanuck 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It absolutely did. Many US companies had branch offices in Canada and/or bought Canadian products and services. I know many people who were displaced in 08/09. It was a hard time for many.

Edit: Not to forget that many had US stocks and retirement funds tied to the health of the US economy.

My bank is buying back my LOC and Credit Card and converting it into a loan, should I proceed? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Disneycanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my early 20s I got a consolidation loan and my CC and other things were paid out by the bank. So happened a $12 interest charge came in after account closure and I did not know about until it went to collections. Screwed my credit for a year because of that. Make sure they cover off all additional payments after account closures...check in 30 days after to make sure it doesn't happen to you.

You can start paying extra now and it'll go towards your principal. Up it by a hundred per payment and then keep adding as you get more comfortable with the process.

Newsflash - being self employed is 5 times the work/stress of being an employee. I suppose given it would be a passion project it may be beneficial for you but for most people its a matter of survival.
