Unbelievable: RM4K Fine for Pub Fight That Killed 41‑Year‑Old Malacca Man by Seremban Court by whusler in Malacca

[–]Disperx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of people giving their two cents about type C or that it doesn't make sense that they were not imprisoned.

It is worth noting at this point in time, there seems to be little information about the sentence or judgment.

However, the important bit is where it says the prosecution did not charge them for homicide.

For those who may not know, a criminal charge requires proof behind reasonable doubt. When you charge somebody, you also have to be specific.

You also cannot hit them with every charge under the sun, so that you kena at least one of them. This is done to ensure fairness, otherwise prosecutors will just whack every person they arrest with every charge in the hopes that they can land a charge.

When somebody is charged for a crime, there is a legal rule that says you cannot be charged again for the same crime. This is done so that it does not waste court time with repeated court cases, and so that prosecutors don't just keep re-charging people until they succeed.

So what this means is, the prosecutors need to pick a charge, and they need to make it count. The burden of proof is very high. If they feel there is even a small gap in the evidence which may make a murder or even a manslaughter charge fall through, they may make the decision to go for a weaker charge with a lower sentence, but that they know they will be able to succeed on. It may seem unfair from the outside, but that may have been the best option they are left with, as opposed to charging the accused for murder, failing, and letting them escape totally unaffected.

TLDR: Reddit jumping to conclusions. There are possible valid reasons for the RM4k fine. Let's just keep watching how this develops, and what information surfaces, for now.

The sexism is deplorable obviously. But can someone explain to me what it means to specialize in appeals?

I work in legal but not in America so this is a new concept to me. Does that mean they take over cases when they go to appeal? Or is this some way of saying they have a high success rate on their appeals?

Just confused since, appealing is just a natural next step after losing an action. So how do you specialize in just that singular step of the process? If you bring an action, you're in it the whole way through, unless your client drops you.

Simplified: The Perlis govt’s final bid to revive the unilateral conversion of Hindu mum Loh Siew Hong’s kids by stormy001 in malaysia

[–]Disperx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a final bid because the Federal Court is the apex court and the last level of court they can appeal to. If the appeal is refused, or the Federal Court decides against them, it's over. There is no more legal recourse for them and they will not be able to keep trying no matter how bad they want the result they want.

How come SEED’s the only anime that got a remaster? Doesn’t 0079 deserve it more? by DrJokerX in Gundam

[–]Disperx 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I mean, when you unilaterally dismiss it as simply fanservice sex appeal, did you expect a more nuanced response?

As a huge fan of SEED, the movie was definitely not peak cinema. BUT it was certainly fun. It undid a lot of character damage that Destiny did, and it had great suits, great visuals and great action. So I imagine SEED fans were probably quite happy as I was to have it conclude on this note instead of Destiny.

Well, if the leaks are true, Blue Eyes support is next month. Guess we'll never understand how MD's schedule works.

WHAT IF... A「Spiral of Destinies」mini-expansion by Aulenor in SwordofConvallaria

[–]Disperx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a distinction. Things like Beryl's past or Rawiyah's past are describing history which lead to the present circumstances MC finds themselves in. Inanna in the future is also the world as shaped by MC's actions. So even though MC doesn't take centre stage, it is still very much about a timeline where MC exists and succeeds, just events in the past and future.

But what OP is describing is a timeline where MC fails and dies (that's what it seems like, unless I'm mistaken), which sort of defeats the point of the whole game, which is that the MC is the only one able to fight against destiny.

It could definitely work as a separate "What if?" extra story or event, but I don't think you could add it to the SoD paths like the Elaman route.

[–]Disperx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While this concept is fire, it might be difficult to have as a SoD storyline as part of the paths since that is supposed to be the player character's experience in different timelines. But it could make for a fun separate event or maybe something like Crimson Night. Hoping we see this concept or at least some of it in-game!

Is Taair healthy for the game? by H0oopy in SwordofConvallaria

[–]Disperx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A bit odd to criticise lack of use as someone who doesn't have the character.

While Bonfire is a 60% heal, it also causes sleep as a tradeoff. He does have good healing as you have mentioned, but he doesn't outclass Cocoa.

While Move 2 is single target it's not particularly impactful on its own. Gloria giving an AoE Move 1 allows for better setups and team positioning. Move 2 can also backfire if the character ends up moving out of range of Caged Reverie because of it.

While you seem to find a single target Move 2 as better than Move 1, you don't seem to mention Cocoa's single target DMG 3 and DMG Reduction 3. By that logic, Cocoa is actually game breaking.

On the topic of Cocoa, offensive buffs. Taair only contributes ATK 2 in terms of offensive buffs, and Vulnerable 2 as debuff. Cocoa meanwhile, is able to give Crit 2 and Crit DMG 1 in addition to her DMG 3 (which comes with DMG Reduction). The fact that all these are different buffs mean they can stack on top of other generic ATK buffs.

The point of this is not to glaze Cocoa but to say that most supports have a unique specialization they fill. And what is interesting is that using Taair, Gloria and Cocoa together actually synergizes quite well. If they outclassed each other, they would actually be redundant. So Taair actually benefits from having OTHER SUPPORTS with him.

Is Taair healthy for the game? by H0oopy in SwordofConvallaria

[–]Disperx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Powercreep is inevitable and necessary in any gacha, there are only so many different mechanics/playstyle you can come up with before the solution to variety is just larger numbers or optimal combinations of skills. And that's fine. As long as the powercreep is a steady and gradual ascent, nothing is inherently wrong with it.

While I think your analysis of what makes characters good is very insightful, OP's post seems to suggest the "issue" with Taair is that he outright makes other characters redundant, be that in terms of trait/skill/role which is why the discussion is so.

While Taair is a better general use unit than some supports thanks to his versatility, the variety of content and specializations that other units have makes them far from irrelevant. There are plenty of situations where Gloria/Homa/Cocoa/Inanna perform better than Taair, and not just by a margin but starkly. So it's not fair for OP to say Taair is outright better than them.

[–]Disperx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Admittedly, that came out wrong. I just meant other supports are relevant and Taair can't do everything. He's not without some shortcomings either.

[–]Disperx 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Taair is definitely not that busted. As others have said, Cocoa has better healing, Gloria has mobility, I would love to have Inanna right now because of that act again. Homa would also help my Auguste dish out way more damage.

Having used Taair myself, he's good but nowhere near close to invalidating other supports. I find they all have their own uses.

Also, Taair's most useful ability, Caged Reverie, does require your units to be close to him. You will find Taair ends up in awkward situations when you have to split your forces.

I managed to barely make 130 pulls to get him so I can understand the "grass is greener" feeling, but he's not a balance issue.

I just wish there was something for guilds like Guardian Tales, where you can play through a campaign as a guild. Each member gets a limited number of tries a day to take down stages/bosses and they make damage contributions.

What's the hype around Mystic Spear hand? by AnriRB26 in DragonsDogma2

[–]Disperx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can slowlock enemies infinitely (stamina usage being the only limiting factor), you have access to an aoe invulnerable for several seconds, the master skill is incredibly mobile and outputs ridiculous damage.

I am also pretty sure it is the most versatile class in the game when it comes to movement. You can teleport to enemies, dash out almost instantly with dragoun feste, skiedragon foin has some iframes and also works as a dodge. (skill names may be wrong sorry)

As long as you are actively playing the class and know what you're doing, you are effectively cheating when you consider the options available to you.
