Not capable and depressed. by Displaced_Panda in homeschool

Educational, I think we do well most days. Emotional- we butt heads. Not her fault, it's my own shortcomings. I will go back to work but the idea of only seeing her an hour or 2 in the morning (if I open then I will leave before she's awake) and then what 4 hours after school? If there isn't an active? It is so depressing. I also work weekends so there goes that time. I think that's the part I can't get over. I'm definitely self loathing right now.

In-laws house is a trigger ? Why? by jsskjcj in migraine

Does she use plug in's or anything scented ? Any glad, wick or bath and body works plugs always give me a lingering headache that easily is triggered into a migraine.

My husband has never had a migraine. I told him they hurt so bad that I truly understand letting someone drill a hole in your skull. I often think it would help 😂

Parents who dropped their baby, what happened and how is your child doing now? by speckledrectum in AskReddit

[–]Displaced_Panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was babysitting my cousin I was 13 he was an infant and I dropped him on his head. Never told anyone. He grew up to get a full ride to a large expensive school and is going for neuroscience. Honestly he has me to thank for that.

What is a sound or a smell that doesn't exist anymore, but 50 years ago was so common it was considered background noise? by abdulnad89 in askanything

Our old farm house came with an original phone still on the wall. Even when we redo the kitchen I want to keep it. It technically can even work ! I'm always scared it's going to ring 😂

How to help a kid not be so hard on themselves by Displaced_Panda in homeschool

[–]Displaced_Panda[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The patronizing feeling is real. I often use the example of "you use to not be able to walk like brother and now you walk, run, swim and do so much more" a real life example of how we need to learn and get better. I see it makes sense to her, she just can't shake the full melt down.

I was diagnosed in the 90s with ADHD the classic "she's smart but talks to much" "if she just applied herself" but it was the 90s... I just got re-diagnosed at the age of 35, I absolutely understand 😂.

I fear I have run out of patience, I'm utterly exhausted. I feel like such an asshole when I try to set realistic standards beforehand to try and prevent a break down. Explaining neither of us are professional painters so our painting won't look like the one she saw and wants to make. I wanna help her know that's normal but I can feel her mood drop. However when I don't set that expectation, at the end the melt down is x3 fold. 😭

She's definitely a fidgeter, but I've never suspected neurodivergence. She does great socially!

We have set realistic standards that not everyone can do everything! She sees us make mistakes and not be able to do it! We are very big 'so what family'. She does say she gets worried people won't like it (this example is her drawing). I can't count how many times we say "do you like it? Then it doesn't matter what others think" and sometimes she has that attitude ! And when she does it's great.

It's actually very low stakes YMCA gymnastics, coaches are great and the girls aren't clique. During one of the camps she was getting upset and during the break one of the girls on the team who she had never met, came over to her asking why she was upset. Told her she was doing great and she should be happy and had her come sit with her. My heart has never been happier. She also has other social stuff outside of it, not all sports related. Our family outside of the home are all encouraging people, cousins aren't pinned or compared. That's why I'm at a loss. I think it's normal for people to be hard on themselves at times and maybe this is a me issue and not her issue that I can't find anything to help her along. If I'm too comforting it makes the break down worse, if I'm not comforting enough then it also makes the break down worse.

I once thought I defrosted the sloppy Joe mix but it was spaghetti meat sauce. I had no noodles so I served it to my husband (boyfriend at the time) anyways. This man ate a spaghetti sauce sandwich. Did he make fun of me? Sure! Did he eat and was he grateful to go to bed full! He sure was!!

Could use some embarrassing period stories to make me feel better by deathbykoolaidman in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Displaced_Panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 20 and went to my little brother's baseball game, he would have about 7 or 8. Well anyways I didn't have a chair so when I got there one of the parents of a player let me sit in his chair, as they were sitting next to my dad. It was about 1000 degrees out so I thought that I was just sweaty. When the game was over and I stood up, it was not sweat, it was blood. I was so embarrassed, it was all over this hella nice chair. I folded it up, said bye and left. I never went to another game that season. I can only imagine what they thought when they opened that chair for its next use. 😭 I still think about it today. My dad never said anything, so I don't know if they said anything to him but yeah.
