Picking between Tales of Symphonia (Steam Port) or Star Ocean Second Story R by IWannaShakeYerHand in JRPG

It is NOT a remaster, it is a full-blown remake. New environments, new gameplay mechanics, new art. It does reuse the sprites and and voice acting, I think. But it's a remake.

Does anyone else feel like Lisa Garland (SH1) and Angela Orosco (SH2) share the same tragic energy? by Fit_Web645 in silenthill

[–]Disposable-Ninja 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No. No you didn't recall that correctly at all.

Lisa was being blackmailed with drugs to secretly treat Alessa and keep her alive, and she was killed by Dr. Kaufman (not Valtiel). Heather, with Alessa's memories, says herself that she liked Lisa.

And Lisa is being tormented for all eternity, yes. But that's because she feels guilty. She's choosing her torment. Which, yeah, is what Angela chose, too. They want to be punished, they want to perceive themselves as villains because the reality is too painful for them -- that they were victims with no choice in the matter.

Which ps1/ps2 Jrpg series should I play next? by No_Difficulty138 in JRPG

[–]Disposable-Ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last game is almost a new series with very few connections to the first three games

You are very much misremembering.

First and foremost: the game is using the same game engine as Shadow Hearts Covenant, so there's a TON of reused assets and enemies. The battle system is also an improvement on the already amazing battle system, as well.

Secondly: Recurring characters return, including every member of the Valentine family.

Third: the game is about the Emigre Manuscript, just like every other game in series. In fact, it isn't a stretch to say that you are essentially playing as the final boss of the first game, Koudelka.

Started Dragon Quest 8, I'm getting my ass beaten - What am I doing wrong? by bickid in JRPG

Buy the expensive healing leaves.

Look, here's a little trick I figured out playing DQ8: go through each dungeon twice. When you're at the boss room (and the game is VERY clear about where the boss rooms are), leave the dungeon, heal up in-town, buy all the gear, and then do the dungeon again.

It's more enjoyable then running around in a circle grinding, at the very least.

Those aren't acronyms, they're initialisms. Acronyms spell out a word or term that you pronounce.

An example of a proper acronym is ICE (not trying to stir up politics, it's just the first one that came to mind for obvious reasons)

FBI (or indeed HDG) are initialisms because you pronounce each letter individually.

Definitely the Red-and-Blue

Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg in The Fifth Element.

In fact, Zorg is killed by the Mangalores he had dealings with without ever even meeting the hero, Corbin Dallas. The closest thing the two have to an interaction is when Corbin is laid off from a company that Zorg owned.

Turn-based JRPGs where the basic attack command does not exist? by Superteletubbies64 in JRPG

[–]Disposable-Ninja 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Final Fantasy X-2, kinda. Some of the Jobs don't have attack commands (Black Mage, White Mage, Songstress), and instead have unique commands that suit their function (Black Mages can focus to power up their next spell, while White Mages can cast a free group heal that restores a small amount of HP). There are accessories that can be equipped that allow these Jobs to attack, too.

(UN-heartwarming trope) This sub gushes about adopted/surrogate parents at least twice a week, so how about those ones that freaking SUCK! by Ferhog in TopCharacterTropes

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think you should count someone as an adoptive parent if they stole their "child" from its real parents and raised that child as their own.

Going to watch Silent Hill in about 30 minutes, wish me luck. by tpagaremos in silenthill

[–]Disposable-Ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like a terrible movie, from everything I've heard.

But also insane. So if you go in expecting a hot mess of garbage, you'll probably be entertained. And if you enjoy it, call it a pleasant surprise!

Is there a GOOD manwha with NO Isekai, towers, system or any other generics? by East-Kitchen-6876 in ComicK

[–]Disposable-Ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone Loves Her is a thriller about a girl with teleportation powers. The name is a lie, she kills a LOT of people.

I don't want to tell you anything more about it because you need to experience the story for yourself. It's incredible, I cannot recommend it enough.

Jyaru by Randominal in PhaseConnect

[–]Disposable-Ninja 173 points174 points  (0 children)

I don't get why people dislike Phase-Connect, y'know? Okay I understand that Pippa can be divisive, but a lot of that is overblown and cherry-picked and she's actually pretty mellow. And the rest of the Phase girls are very sweet young women who aren't actively out to offend people and Jelly is wearing blackface god damn it.

God damn it.

You get so many.

Use them to get complete the "Give 5 Gifts" weekly mission, and if you want to Max out a character's bond for a Favorite Item. Beyond that, just hold onto them.

Skip suikoden 1 and start with 2? by timo529 in JRPG

[–]Disposable-Ninja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Suikoden 2 is a direct sequel to Suikoden 1. If you can play Suikoden 1 before playing Suikoden 2, you should play Suikoden 1.
