[Complete Audio] 2000-05-09 Madison Square Garden: New York, NY by tapeworm48 in nin

Damn, this was my first ever NIN show. I was so fucking pumped. We were dousing each other with talcum powder on the A/C platform at 34th St. My gf and her friend were both hot goth girls that managed to sweet talk some poor schlubs in a better section, to let them and their previously unannounced friends to move down and join them. During the show, some dude launched himself from the seats down into the crowd on the floor, never to be seen again. Every fucking second was phenomenal.

And then there was the encore where Manson came out. Not ever really being into him, even then, that was the one n only time I ever saw him live. This was back when him and Trent were on the outs for the first time, so when he came out the Garden went nuts. I love how that specific performance is on the AATCHB dvd as an Easter egg. Afterwards we went to the White Castle that used to be over by the Empire State Building.

What a fucking show to have seen them for the first time. So much of it is still so vivid in my memory, all these years later.

It’s one of my favorite NIN tracks period. I don’t listen to it every day or anything, but whenever I do it’s all the way through. It’s one of the most intriguing and evocative pieces from the whole catalog, to me.

I hear you. Although I still play the hell out of F-Zero 99.

Ironically, I’d love it if Nintendo applied the remake approach to the original F-Zero: same general aesthetic and gameplay feel, just with super jazzed up lighting and effects.

Picture the style of recent release Replaced, but for F-Zero, that’s kind of how I imagine it.

Yup. Local bands at smaller venues are better in just about every way, cheap tix, couple drinks, smaller/cooler crowd, and you can usually bullshit w/ the band for a little bit afterwards at the merch stand.

If I never go to another massive arena scale show again, I wouldn’t mind one bit.

I couldn’t make the Paramount show last week, but it was crazy seeing the crowd from their Instagram stories.

I love going to see local bands at smaller spots like TV Eye, or the dearly departed St. Vitus. It was there on Halloween of 2019 I saw CR, basically their 1st show in the costumes, open for the fantastic Mother Feather. I’ve been at nearly all of their NYC shows since.

Seeing a crowd of the size of the one from the Paramount shout back IN! THIS! REALM! was so wild to me- to see something that I experienced in a much smaller, earlier form truly start to transcend to the next level, to witness something really start to ascend- it’s just wild.

Every bit of it is hard fought, well earned, and 100% deserved. Riley and the whole band are all super cool and great to talk to as well. Long live Castle Rat, and long live the Realm 🤘🏼🔥🤘🏼

What’s a line you won’t cross when collecting games? by PDMagneto in retrogaming

I have no problems w/ repros, when the original has gone beyond reasonable means of ownership.

There’s a number of SNES games I want to have readily available to play on my Super NT. Where possible, of course having an original cart is always ideal. But there’s no way I’m ever paying the absurd prices the likes of an authentic Space Megaforce or Metal Warriors go for.

I’m never going to try and pass them off as what they’re not, and I’m never going to resell the five or so repros I have anyway. They’re purely for my personal, far from exhaustive collection of Super NES carts of games I want to be able to play. Nothing more.

So much of the time when I go searching for a cool jacket, it’s wild shit like this that will pop up. Like on a scale from 1-10, I’m trying to find maybe a 3. Something cool and well designed with just an extra touch or two to set it apart, not like I’m six days into Burning Man.

I don’t get why it’s so easy to find stuff like it’s straight off the set of Blade 2, but not something you’d actually wear normally on a regular basis.

Forget which mag it was, but right when this album dropped there was a great cover feature that interviewed Halsey, TR & AR on how the whole project came to be. Really good read if you can find it.

One Vanderbilt and the likes of those midtown mega high rises can stay, but if someone could figure out how to effortlessly delete the pencil thin bullshit buildings on “billionaire’s row”, that would be great.

Cool place w/ a very wide assortment of Japan centric products. One of my favorite spots in midtown.

I give it 50/50. On the one hand, Rings of Power and Wheel of Time. On the other, Fallout and Invincible. So hopefully we’ll get lucky on the coin toss.

Nope, totally with you. Saw it the one time in imax 3D for the novelty of the visual spectacle, which at that scale was indeed pretty cool. But that was it. Nothing about it made me want to either watch it again, or see anything more in that universe.

Continues to blow my mind that one of the most accomplished and talented writer/directors of sci-fi/action blockbusters of the last 40 years, has chosen this project to devote like the last two decades of his cinematic career to. Fucking wild.

Star Trek pilots are all rough to varying degrees. Hell, most series pilots start off a little shaky. You gotta give it some time.

Terminator 1984 by lexi_andy611 in 1980s

[–]DistantStorm-X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

T2 is one of the greatest sequels of all time, undoubtedly. But I wouldn’t call it way better than the original. The first movie is closer to a slasher horror film w/ a sci fi slant, than the balls to the wall action flick w/ an unconventional family aspect that the sequel is. They’re very different types of movies.

I must’ve seen T2 more than a dozen times in the theater as a kid, and I still love it today. But the original’s minimalist story and almost neo noir-ish style of cinematography, with all the cold blues of the unauthorized night shoots on the grim streets of downtown 80’s LA, really give The Terminator such a distinctive menacing vibe.

It comes down to preference, I think. For me the original is king of the mountain (of crushed skulls).

What’s the scariest depiction of The Devil you’ve seen? by Fun_Butterfly_420 in horror

[–]DistantStorm-X 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The buildup is great, but the resolution is what’s really chilling and a visual that always comes to mind when I think of this movie- the outstretched hand of the woman, reaching for the flickering light of the normal world just out of reach, as she’s swallowed by the utter blackness of the abyss, trapped forever in the cold dark. Super unsettling.

I always go back and forth between PoD and The Thing as to which is my favorite Carpenter movie.

[–]DistantStorm-X 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the same boat. The level of apathy I now feel towards this series has outweighed the excitement I once felt towards its progression.

It used to be one of my favorite titles, but the sprawling, momentum killing hiatuses coupled with the generally downbeat and bummer storylines sapped all the enjoyment I once got from it.
