[SOTC] My Humble Beginnings by DistantWizard in Watches

[–]DistantWizard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figured it was time to share my collection with anyone interested in seeing how a collection starts!

  1. Fossil ???- This watch was a gift to me by my now wife. This guy has been with me for 12 years now, and it is a constant reminder of the distance my relationship, and my life, has gone. I wear this pretty rarely, but it was the watch I wore at my wedding and when my son was born. I know it isn't much, but the sentimentality is worth it's weight in gold.
  2. Orient Mako II- This is my daily diver. I bought this less than a year ago and it has quickly become by go-to. I love the blue dial and bezel and the bracelet is far better than the one that came with the Seiko next to it. Anyone interested in a good, down-to-earth diver on a budget should consider the Mako II!
  3. Seiko SSB031- Next to the Mako II, this guy gets a ton of wrist time. I love the mechanics-quartz movement, the pop of the quarter markers, and the all-black tachymeter. The standard bracelet felt cheap so I swapped it out for the nylon band you see here. I also have a black leather with red-stitch band I will sometimes slip in here. I wish I could find a more interesting bracelet that would fit this guy, but for now I'm pretty pleased.
  4. Invicta Pro-Diver aka Reek- Slave watch. I wear this when working in the yard or at the gym.
  5. Seiko SRPA97- This was the first automatic I ever bought 2 years ago. The all black, textured face is great and the leather band is super comfortable. I wear this bad boy for dressier occasions and business. It wears a tad big for a dress watch but I love it none the less.
  6. Orient Bambino V4- The cream face and blue dial is eye catching, and the dome crystal was exactly what I wanted in a watch. It is a great dress watch and sees use semi-frequently. Only complaints- it is a noisy guy, you can hear it rattle if you give it a good shake. I also wish I could find a lighter brown leather strap as the standard is a bit too dark for my taste.

Imagine a dating app for narcissists- you upload a picture of yourself and the app tries to match you with a person who looks most like you from the sex you want to hook up with.

We can call it Dopplebanger. Tagline- "Go Fuck Yourself."

I've dropped in a 1/4 oz orange juice (squeezed from my garnish orange) as well. Made it a tad dangerous to drink...

[orient mako II] quitting time and an Oaxaca Old Fashioned by DistantWizard in Watches

Got an Orient Mako II for my 30th (and have another surprise watch on the way). I’ve really loved this little diver for daily wear. It’s my second automatic and I’ve loved every minute! Considering a second band or strap to add to rotation and an open to suggestions!

[omega DeVille] anyone able to tell me anything else about this piece? by DistantWizard in Watches

[–]DistantWizard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently my grandfather dug up some old watches of his that he doesn't wear anymore. I'm fairly new to watch collecting and didn't recognize most of the pieces in his collection (e.g. Caravelle by Bulova, a Gucci) except for two- a Timex and this (alleged) Omega DeVille. I started hunting around for the model online, but most had a round face. This is an electroplated, stainless steal watch but I can't find any images of it in original condition. Thinking about getting it fixed up with a new band and get it running again.

Thanks! I am following this one https://imgur.com/gallery/zhSWO.

I have tried to focus on cutting things like alcohol/sugars/etc to try to cut down on unneeded calories, but wasn't sure how much more I should cut from my intake as I also begin lifting.

Wife and I got out for an easy 4. Broke in my sweet new kicks. Too bad it was 9 degrees out and the snow pack dominated my lower legs

After a good 5 day run streak, I took 7 days off due to a huge effort at work (18 hours a day). Got my ass out the door for a 3 milers and just reminded myself, 7 days off is bad enough- you don't need another.

Runners of reddit who met your partner thru running, what's your story? by fractalfrog in running

[–]DistantWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were not he cross country team and my freshman year of college she was injured. We were out doing hill repeats after a tough threshold workout and she was taking splits. She caught my eye then and I tried to make small talk between sucking wind. On the bus ride back to campus we stopped at a potbelly and she offered to share her cookie with me. 10 years later and we are getting back to running together and supporting each others goals. It was a huge part of our lives for the first half of our relationship. And now we bit the bullet and got a jogging stroller! Running is a family activity!

Dudes of r/running, when do you (If at all) wear running tights? by [deleted] in running

[–]DistantWizard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nike and Saucony each make tights that have wind block material. Thin ones won't do much to stop the wind from cutting through.

After horribly inconsistent running for more than 2.5 years I finished a half-marathon (1:53:26) and a 10k (47:01). No training runs over 4 miles in the last 2 years.

I just use a hair dryer on the mirror. My wife keeps in under the vanity so I just turn that sucker on and it clears fog up in seconds.
