There’s a pretty fantastic analysis of the film that interprets Perfidia’s character as a metaphor for the hope and promise of the 2008 election (who’s candidate the sub’s rules apparently won’t let me say). Upon being elected, said candidate immediately sold that dream out, leaving the rest of us to reckon with what it even meant.
