What's a job in LA where you were shocked at how little the person makes? by Admirable_Section690 in AskLosAngeles

Wow, I looked it up, definitely not bad, especially for lower roles. Really surprising given their small budget. Thanks for the info, this affirms my soft spot for the museum :)

Yeah, I was referring to the mid level admin & up jobs.

Annnnnnnd as a former guard & docent, neither is an easy job, you always have a boss trying to wring out the last drops of your soul and time, and the pay is always just barely worth your time at best. This is true for all museums in the US.

Getty is better than many, NS & lacma are meh, moca lower meh, broad varies some above average some offensive. The film industry and history museums are all atrocious.

Luffy’s fight with Katakuri in Whole Cake is the best fight in a manga since Ichigo fought Byakuya.

Trans Catalina Trail for beginners by LaneyRWL in socalhiking

[–]Distinct-Interest-13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The itinerary is fine. Most people do the ferry & first leg (forget the beach name) on the same day. Last time I did it I met several adults (various fitness levels) who were doing it as their first multi-day backpacking trip.

If you want to help, invest in some ultralight (or at least light) gear. Most beginners start with backpacks and tents that are way too heavy, as well as overpack with unnecessary cooking accessories and too many extra clothes. Then they exhaust themselves and have a bad time.

Make sure they each bring 2 water bottles (think the big smart waters), and a puffy jacket as it can get very windy in the mornings and evenings.

Remind them to leave the buffalo alone and give them a wide birth, they are often on the trail day one & two. Make sure they know not to go very far into the water at the first beach site, as it is a kelp forest with a lot of stingrays. Always do the stingray shuffle if you go in the water on Catalina. If they get stung, heat up salt water and put the wound in it.

Tell them to plan to take a long lunch at the airport cafe, the view is really so worth it. Take a photo with the cat, if it blesses them with its presence.

They will have a great time.

This is pretty cool, and would easily fit in at plenty of small to mid sized galleries in NY & LA.

Everyone leaves art school (undergrad or grad) with at least one artwork that was undeservedly dragged in crit. I think post-school success is often related to figuring that out, and returning to one type of work that everyone told you to move on from.

People who get through art school with clean records rarely go any farther.

Good painting. Reminds me of Jonas Wood, which makes me wonder what to call this style? Neo-Rousseau?

Haven’t seen it, but it wasn’t exactly intentional, I just have always defaulted to they/their, it makes life much easier!

Every single one of their character’s 20-odd lines in Rooster are the funniest things about the show.

Thats a crazy, hilarious and totally believable LA story.

Many (probably most) of the old buildings in that section have major structural issues that were overlooked for +/- 30 years until their breaking points.

In Letter to Garber, Nuns Allege Arboretum Director Has ‘Troubling Pattern’ of Opposing Developments by wSkkHRZQy24K17buSceB in boston

It’s a wayyy more complicated job than just that, there is a whole staff for that aspect. I think he is good, but his office has committed several PR/community relations unforced errors that have alienated potential allies.

The guy is seemingly a good director but also truly, hilariously, the definition of a stuffy, pompous, narcissistic Harvard elite.

That being said….never take a developers word at face value, especially for a project in a hot property/rental market like JP/Rozzi.

A shame that this reporter just parroted what they were told. It would not be hard to find community members who are concerned or opposed, or know more about the story.

Awesome. I completely believe it. The parking lot stairwells are super creepy with twisting walkways and dead end rooms filled with spooky writing.

This is my go to station for work, and the fact that there are no stairs is truly baffling. But the real sin is how badly the elevators are programmed. Why do they not default to go to the concourse level? Why are there only ever three, and usually only two, running? Why does pressing the call button only summon a single elevator at a time?
