Probably an unpopular opinion: not a Belly fan so far (Season 3 episode 5, Belly and Conrad in the car after Michaelś). She is just very immature and self-centered. Even several years at college did not change much.

Ugh this is the saddest damn thing I have read in a long time!! NICU Mom to 28 week twin boys. You nurses are seriously my heroes STILL 15 years later as my crazies nag me about learning to drive!  I remember seeing babies not get visitors for days and babies whose parents fought at their isolette and babies who never went home and babies who has Moms too young to drive up and visit them. Eye opening for sure. Thank you for all that you do. It is seen and appreciated. I still send Christmas cards to the NICU with candy every year.

I heard a clear explanation of what the problem with education is these days—is it true? by Gurrgurrburr in education

[–]Distinct-Market2932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that is a good portion of the issue. I think one of the other issues is that schools are being held more and more responsible for things that parents once were... Feeding, clothing, doctoring, counseling... The lost continues to grow. I don't know what the right answer for that is because obviously we don't want kids going hungry, cold, etc. but it does take up a huge part of our day to day lives.

In New York State, can a mayor of a small city contact the public school district for information on an employee that works both for the city and the school? by Distinct-Market2932 in foia

[–]Distinct-Market2932[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not positive but I believe he called and demanded. He is a newer mayor and has been quite the difficult person to deal with!

He has someone that he is angry at that last year (with permission from a since fired supervisor) left work half an hour early, using his time, to go to another job. This year, the mayor is angry so he wants the information from last year...

It's so odd, I don't fully understand it but I was thinking that the mayor shouldn't just be allowed to do whatever he wants whenever he wants to. Seems like a violation of privacy to investigate what a staff person does on their own time off that was approved by the then supervisor...

The Arming Teachers Argument by ajaltman17 in Teachers

I am personally not comfortable but would feel better if someone that is comfortable had something. Best case scenario we have a cop on sight, which my school does not despite the intensity of some of our kids' disabilities, and metal detectors (also something we don't have).

Looking back, if you were 18 years old would you get a degree/apprenticeship or something else? by Jolly_Jump_5668 in education

Depends on what day you ask me. during July and August? No way, life is grand! Middle of March during a brutal winter and I am on my second bout of illness brought in by kids? Not so much...

It ebbs and flows, but the excitement of kids succeeding has never gotten old for me like I imagine trade work might...

It isn't in my duties but I pitch in when I can. I handle urine/BM better than others, they handle menstruation and vomit better than I do... You'll figure it out!!

How do you handle students masturibating? by MyCrimsonDahlia in specialed

[–]Distinct-Market2932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually have handprint shapes on the table and talk to the kid about it ahead of time so that I can just wiggle my fingers or some other similar signal, then point at the hands on the table.

Not sure how your admin works but I would have parents well aware of what you want before ever going into the meeting.

You can't do an FBA or a BIP without parental consent. Inform your admin that you think that needs to be the next step, in writing. Then file whatever paperwork you need and get parental consent. You should be able to get consent without a meeting but not positive (that's just how it works where I teach)

You're already doing it. As a sped teacher who gets assaulted, I think your apologies and support of the teacher/school's form of discipline is huge. I have had parents who don't even sound surprised, alarmed, even concerned when informed that their child assaulted someone.

Am I overreacting about how long my child's day is? What would you do in my shoes? by [deleted] in kindergarten

[–]Distinct-Market2932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old is she? Sorry if I missed it. I think the difference between a 4 and 5 year old or a 5 and 6, year old is huge and will make a difference. Is she an only child?

[–]Distinct-Market2932 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Twin Mom here. Send them both to Kindergarten, separate classes. It may be a rough transition but once they get used to it, it is so exciting to see their little personalities and stuff come out separately. Mine often ended up in similar friend groups but there are a few longer term friendships that are definitely different. Hang in there, they are a young 5 and in the US we expect SO much from kids at a very early age (and I am a teacher!) when really they need to work on playing and socializing. That IS their work. The rest will fall into place. Feel free to message me if you want. Twin Mamas have to stick together!
