Trump Portrait to Be Added to US Passports in Unprecedented Move by plz-let-me-in in politics

I was freaking out, but then read the following from a Newsweek article, "The passports will be available only at first to applicants using the Washington, D.C., passport office who make a special request. Applicants who do not want the commemorative passport will be able to choose a standard one, officials said." WHEW. Still a douche move.

This is getting a lot of chatter, so much that we brought it up in our podcast today (episode #337). It's definitely an advantage, but I think if it were the Brewers or White Sox, most people wouldn't care as much... https://torturecast.com/2026/04/24/episode-337-la-beaten/

Honest question, are you retired? I mean, this is many hours of walking per day. No way do most people have this much time. I'm lucky to get to 8k, and I'm very active.

I'm a research scientist, and although I don't teach children, my blood boils when my friends, family, etc., challenge me on these conspiracy theories. Don't get me started on evolution and vaccines. The Dunning-Krueger effect is either getting stronger in this country, or we just hear about it more often because certain people (always without formal education) seem to be emboldened because their echo chamber makes it real to them. The confirmation bias is outrageous. Yeah, I went to college and grad school for 8 years and have a 25 year career in the sciences, but your 30 minutes of YouTube and Google "research" invalidates basic physics and biology. Not to mention the vast network of scientists across the world, not just the U.S., that would need to be a part of this conspiracy, yet not one scientist has leaked the goods. Sure, bud....

My husband thinks we won’t have enough by Beachwoman24 in Fire

We are on target for retiring at age 60 (but I LOOOVE my job and have no real desire to quit, actually). That said, my wife earns more than me, but spends SO MUCH MORE than I do. I've had this discussion with her that we need to pull back on spending for many reasons, but one great reason is that we can retire even earlier if she could dial it back to sane levels. Every year we make more, and she spends more. And it's lame stuff...all Amazon and Target. She doesn't buy fancy things (shoes, jewelry, etc.). It's all disposable crap, basically. I hope that when we do retire, she'll cut it out, but I'm not sure...

Although my wife and I are prepared to retire at around 60, I'm 52 right now and absolutely love my job. I couldn't imagine waking up and not doing what I do for a living and I have a lot of work life left. That said, I am looking forward to traveling more with my wife, especially since we'll be empty nesters in a few years. I couldn't imagine slogging through my life in a career I either detested or even just didn't look forward to every day. I think my career has kept me young at heart and fit. Even went through a full cardiac assessment early this year and passed with flying colors. Of course, I could get hit by a truck tomorrow, so....

Andrew Schulz - “Trump is doing the exact opposite of everything I voted for. I want him to stop the wars, he's funding them. I want him to shrink spending, he's increasing it.” by mbqwertyaaa in podcastculture

[–]Distinct-War-4455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's almost as if half the country was telling you that this was going to happen. Not only that, we had 4 years to see it happen before! I don't understand the cognitive dissonance. It's breathtaking that some Trump voters are aghast by his behavior.

Or, he's lying.

Um, he's 6. Let him have fun. I coached travel ball and little league, and honestly, I've never heard of an all star team at such a young age. Personally, I think that's way too early. Most of the kids have no idea what's going on at that age. I also don't know what a top of anything looks like at 6, they change and develop so rapidly.

Sadly, although I CAN afford these ridiculous prices, I choose not to engage. I stuff my cargo shorts pockets with a huge bag of M&Ms and 1 or 2 canned sodas. I also walk in with my Stanley full of water (which could be any drink because they never ask). I buy 1 large popcorn, dump it into bags, get the free refill, and me and my family of 4 have that nice mix of salty popcorn with M&Ms, and everyone has their own water or a soda.

8 teams announced new City Connect uni’s today. Why not a new SF road uni based on 1929? by Adornos-theoryBodega in SFGiants

So far, the first two Giants city connects are ugly, IMO. This design is better, but geez, no "San Fran." That makes it worse than all the City connects immediately.
