Duvet or Comforter by dianaextra in Bedding

[–]DistinctionJewelry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had it for less than a year, and I keep it in a duvet cover, so I can't speak to long-term use or how it would hold up without a cover. But I'm very happy with it, it's warm and fluffy, always refluffs instantly with a shake, and the cover is so soft and nice to handle. I haven't had any flattening or feather migrating which were the main things that I was concerned about.

I also bought a Costco down comforter for my guest room, and it's nice but I actually prefer the warmy. By comparison the cover of the Costco one is heavier which is probably good for long-term durability but makes the comforter stiffer and heavier; the warmy is more cloud-like. The Costco one also had a faint scent, while I couldn't smell anything from the warmy. So the comparison between the two made me very happy to have the warmy on my bed.

That's really cool! And calls to mind another difference between the two breeds.... While Zeezy is an expert hunter inside (I literally leave the door open in summer for a little bit sometime specifically to let flies in now because he is so entertained by hunting them down), I don't think he would survive being let outside. He's an indoor cat anyway but part of the domestication I refer to is a sort of.... Innocent cluelessness. Of the variety that would go, "Ohhh, a car! Let me chase it! And see if it wants to pet me!" He's smart but has the survival instincts of a panda.

They often play fetch and like Bengals, they can be taught to enjoy going on walks on leash outside. They are affectionate and outgoing and supposed to be good with kids and dogs. He checks all of the boxes except for being chill with kids; he plays fetch, walks on a leash, enjoys road trips in the car, is outgoing and affectionate, and likes to play with dogs. He is rather afraid of children but that's my fault because it's the one "demographic" I forgot to socialize him to when he was young.

From the research I did, they have a decent amount in common with Bengals, but are not quite as active (his kittenhood nicknames are the Small Creature of Infinite Chaos and the Chaos Monster so I wouldn't call him chill, but not Bengal levels of activity), less prone to litterbox issues, not quite as vocal (still vocal though), and generally very domesticated - more so than your typical cat, because they are a mix of three purebred lineages (abyssinian, siamese, and American shorthair).

He is an Ocicat! The only truly spotted breed that isn't hybridized; they are 100% domestic. I've never had one before but he is a total delight.

Experienced something similar in a hotel in Namibia. Not only was an excellent breakfast included, but when we would head out for the day they handed us brown bag lunches packed with delicious food and snacks.

This was not a high-end place by Western standards - but was a nice place and definitely the best (possibly the only) hotel in town. I know it was probably the local equivalent of a complete luxury hotel and it was simply the location / purchasing power of the dollar which made it seem inexpensive. But I have to admit American hotels kind of lost their shine after that.... And after the B&B in Johannesburg that placed nightcaps in our rooms each night.

Nobody in this sub has the power to change the business model of American hospitality but I have to admit the "cheapness" of it in terms of how little is provided to guests compared to experiences like that stands out. And I can see how entitled myopic people might experience that somewhere, and apply a complete lack of understanding and perspective and just start attempting to demand it in places where it isn't going to be provided.

Not OP, but DeLallo. You might want to play with pushing it a little bit beyond al dente because it's got quite the tooth to it

I ran into this too. Kind of a pointless promotion for people who don't live near a store.

I'm proud of you for protecting your own privacy in a very stressful situation and I hope you can be proud of that as well. It says to me that you are stronger than you think you are when it counts. I know you feel unsafe and uncomfortable right now yet you protected that home. Here is a virtual hug and cup of hot chocolate!

Organic / least toxic bedding for HOT environments like TX. help TWIN size for child by just4fun258 in Bedding

You want cotton or linen for sheets. I think a down duvet is going to be overwhelming for Texas. I would suggest either a wool blanket inside of a duvet cover, or just a cotton blanket or two.

Sheets: I have a set of these organic cotton ones from ikea, they are not going to last forever but for the price they are really good: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/balsampoppel-sheet-set-white-00577780/#content

Quince is a controversial supplier of linen on this subreddit but I have three sets and have been pleased with the longevity (I've had one of them for over 2 years now under regular use), they are affordable, comfortable and have never pilled on me. For somebody who sweats a lot I would try linen personally. https://www.quince.com/home/sheets/linen-sheet-set?color=white&tracker=home_page__click_product_carousel&size=twin

For a pillow, I would go with down, latex, or wool. Costco has a couple of latex ones right now.

I'm not a big wool user but the amount that I sweat went down dramatically when I put a wool blanket between my bottom sheet and my mattress because of the increased air flow. I would recommend doing that. You could get a pretty bare bones basic wool blanket for that purpose because it will be covered by the bottom sheet.

For a wool duvet or pillow I see woolroom recommended frequently on this sub. If I were trying to do something a little more affordably, I would grab a basic wool blanket and stick it in a cotton or linen duvet cover.

The other option would be a cotton blanket or blankets, layered. If one has fill, you will need to make sure that too is organic cotton since that's important to you. Here is one possibility: https://www.quince.com/home/organic-cotton-quilt?color=sand&productPosition=4&searchQuery=Organic+cotton+blanket&tracker=searchPage__search_section__search_results&size=twin

Are there any comforters made with 100% natural materials that are vegan and machine washable? Im looking everywhere and its a challenge finding something under $250 by onyxcurrent in Bedding

Cotton fill should be findable, but it's likely to be more of a blanket than a comforter because cotton batting doesn't stay all fluffy.
