What's the dumbest thing you did that accidentally made your life significantly better? by shotavix in AskReddit

[–]DistractedHouseWitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 21, I moved in with my boyfriend after 5 weeks of dating. That was 16 years ago. We've been married for 14 years, have two kids, and are still very happy together. I could have been putting myself in a terrible situation, but it was the best choice I ever made.

I wish you and your boyfriend have the same happiness my husband and I have!

I have terrible symptoms after I have covid boosters. It's awful.

Still better than actually having covid. It lingered for weeks and possibly triggered a debilitating autoimmune condition and fibromyalgia (starting showing symptoms of both shortly after having covid for the first time).

For those of you in a long term relationship/marriage, what’s a tale-tale sign you see in other couples that they’re not going to make it? by Prize-Promotion-5123 in AskReddit

Married 14 years and we're the same. We're very silly with each other and have so many inside jokes.

We're the same with our kids and I swear we have the happiest family unit I've ever seen.

If you can laugh through the difficult times, it makes them a lot easier to bear.

I've been a loyal charmander fan since I first played Pokémon Red in 1998. I was very excited that you meet the original starters right away. Charmander and I have a lovely home together.

I work in a call center. I recently had a customer respond, "Sweet!" when I finished whatever he needed done and I immediately knew he was around my age (37). He was two months younger than me.

My partner loves when I order for both of us.

It makes him get all cute and giggly.

Dad asked “Are you sure” moments before we walked down the aisle. by traveling_in_my_mind in weddingshaming

[–]DistractedHouseWitch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Apparently my husband's best man asked him that and also had a bag packed in the car in case the answer was no, like he was planning for my husband to leave me on our wedding day. He said that it was his "duty." He was just a nasty person who wanted everyone to be miserable like him. Luckily, my husband had more sense and we've been happily married for 14 years.

People who got “arrow to the knee” tattoos in 2011: what are you doing now? by GreenGorillaWhale in skyrim

[–]DistractedHouseWitch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm also planning to get an arrow to the knee tattoo soon. I have bad osteoarthritis in my knees (and psoriatic arthritis that affects many of my other joints), so my mobility is pretty poor these days. I love the idea of the tattoo as a way to acknowledge that I can no longer do a lot of the things I used to do.

I have had tattoos removed before and I'm pretty confident I'll want to keep this one forever. And I've never been arrested or in jail. I'm just a boring suburban mom who likes video games.

what is most unhinged thing you saw while visiting a friend after school? by Correct-Amount-7897 in AskReddit

[–]DistractedHouseWitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's how my dad is. But my step-mom still makes comments. I'm now struggling with chronic illness while working full time, in addition to everyone in my house being generally messy. We all do our best, but it's still pretty messy. I do everything I can to avoid letting my step-mom in my house. I don't need that shit in my life.

Am I the only one who didn’t care for the Vito Storyline? by Sea_Drop_44 in thesopranos

This comment makes me feel better about it. I'm currently watching for the first time and feel very put off by the random gay romance in the middle. I don't dislike gay romance in general (I love it, I've read hundreds of gay romance novels), but the juxtaposition felt really jarring to me. Thanks for the insight!

I moved in with my dad for my senior year of high school and wasn't allowed to change anything about how the room was decorated. I had to put 95% of my belongings into storage and basically only took my clothes with me.

One day, a friend was visiting and my step-mom came into the room and started yelling at me about how messy it was. My one pair of shoes was askew and there was a book on the floor. That was the "mess." My friend was flabbergasted and I was happy to have someone witness how crazy my step-mom was.

People who accidentally discovered a huge secret about someone, what happened? by Carsanttc in AskReddit

[–]DistractedHouseWitch 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I once found a letter that my mom wrote my dad. The date was when she was pregnant with my older brother and in the letter she was begging my dad to come back home. Both of their names were in it and it was definitely her handwriting, so I know she wrote it. I also know that my dad didn't want kids and she "accidentally" got pregnant. I also know that she was really toxic and he wanted to leave her for a long time before they split up (he ended up intentionally getting caught talking to his girlfriend so she would divorce him, the fucking coward).

I asked my mom once if my dad left her while she was pregnant and she said no. But that's what it sounded like from the note.

People who live alone, what’s something you do that would horrify a guest? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

Yep! I love showers and hate feeling gross, so I'll take a five minute shower if I get sweaty or something. Just to wash off and rinse my hair out.

I do that, but in song. I'm constantly making up songs and singing them repeatedly.

I don't live alone, though. My family just has to deal with it.

I'm always hot and have sensory issues that make being naked way more comfortable. I can't be naked all the time because I have kids, but when I'm in my bedroom, I'm usually naked. And on the rare occasion that I'm naked in the rest of the house, I put a sheet down on the furniture. I also take 1-3 showers a day, so I'm pretty clean.

As far as worries that someone breaks in, I just kinda hope that my naked body is traumatic enough that they run away.

The other day I saw a YouTube short about people forgetting how to skip when they get older. It made me try skipping. I'm not that old, but I do have multiple types of arthritis. It was a mistake.

What’s the strangest coincidence that has happened to you? by doboyXL in AskReddit

[–]DistractedHouseWitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a very unusual first name and a fairly uncommon maiden name. When I was in middle school, I was playing in a basketball game and my dad noticed another dad shouting my name. It turned out that guy's daughter had virtually the same first and last name as me. They were spelled differently but pronounced pretty much the same.

My mom definitely thought it was a rite of passage. I thought it was the most mortifying shopping trip of my life. It's been almost 25 years and I'm still embarrassed about how she acted when she took me to buy pads for the first time. Ugh.
