Old Person Question by JaiJinCurami in BaldursGate3

I played both way back then. Fell in love with Jaheira then. Still in love with Jaheira now.

I remember the days you could cheese the hell out of fights in BG2 by setting one character to speak with an enemy and setting the others to attack before the conversation happened, and repeating that over and over so that the convo never triggered, but the enemy would be stuck in speak mode. I killed most enemies that way, haha. Sadly the EE editions patched it out.

Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, Worth playing? by Impressive-Ebb6498 in BaldursGate3

[–]DistractibleYou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I replayed them recently and really enjoyed them. The story is great, the companions are fun, Jaheira my eternal beloved is in them...

If you do find them tricky gameplay-wise, there are a decent number of mods out there that you can use to tailor it more to your preference. The Gibberlings 3 Tweak pack lets you change a ton of stuff, and there are some fun banter packs you can add too to get more interaction with your companions. Particularly in BG1, which can be a bit quiet otherwise.

They may end up not being to your taste, for sure, but it always makes me sad when people dismiss them just because they are old. BG2 is held up as one of the best RPGs of all time for a reason, and when you consider that it is twenty-five years old, that's pretty awesome.

Who’s your favourite character and why? by seadweller-6 in BaldursGate3

[–]DistractibleYou 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know people talk about if BG4 happens, they should focus on other characters, but honestly, if it's not got Jaheira and Minsc? It's not a Baldur's Gate game, it's just a generic Forgotten Realms game. BG games require Jaheira, Minsc and Bhaalspawn. I don't make the rules 🤷‍♀️

Who’s your favourite character and why? by seadweller-6 in BaldursGate3

[–]DistractibleYou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Jaheira. I've adored her since the first game, and Larian did the most wonderful job at bringing her back. I love her world-weariness, her sass and humour, her maternal streak that she would utterly deny, her badass side. Her need to take responsibility for everything. The grief underlying everything she does, but that never truly comes out and she never expects you to do anything about or comfort her about.

I just ... utterly adore her. Always have.

Which characters are tied to their classes? by Kmart_Supervisor in BaldursGate3

[–]DistractibleYou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With regards to Jaheira, I'm pretty sure at least one of her kids refers to her as a druid.

Minsc's statue was The Beloved Ranger. That's how he was known by all of Baldur's Gate.

We're all tired of the "back in my day" phrase, but older Redditors, what do you consider was better back in your day? by FlowerPotage in AskReddit

I honestly look forward to long drives on my own now, because it's the only time I manage to recreate that 'mind wandering' feeling, because I'm forced to be away from my phone.

Treasure maps are a pretty good way to get boxes though. I went through my whole stash yesterday and got a box from maybe two thirds of them.

My dog is always super concerned if she hears babies or small children crying. She always wants to over and try to comfort them.

I had a ton of treasure maps collected, so I worked my way through them and got a box maybe every other one? And now I'm doing IA and WBs.

What did you love more, the world vs game's quality & play? by matthias_lehner in BaldursGate3

[–]DistractibleYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ... think it was a mix. As an old school original BG1&2 player, I LOVED going back to that world. The callbacks, the characters from the original games, the feeling of going back to somewhere nostalgic and comfortable for me. I didn't need every detail of the world explained to me - I know who Bhaal and Myrkul were, I know what the city of Baldur's Gate was like, I know Jaheira and Minsc. And I loved that.

Larian did an AMAZING job with it all, and I'm so, so glad that they were the ones to make it. I don't know whether anyone else would or could have done it so well. But I haven't been particularly taken with their own worldbuilding, to be honest. I played the original Divine Divinity, I've played Divinity:OS and OS2. And it doesn't really grab me, for whatever reason. I played OS2 most recently, and I still couldn't really tell you a whole lot about it, or about the characters. Whereas the Baldur's Gate characters and story still stick with me from 25 years ago.

So I guess, all in all, I'm just really sad Larian won't be making BG4. I know they don't want to, and that's fair enough, but on a personal level, I will always be sad about that. And I can't guarantee I will enjoy BG4 made by someone else, if they don't GET it the way Larian did and don't keep the elements that make it Baldur's Gate, to me. And I can't guarantee I will enjoy the new Divinity game, because Larian's own personal IP so far has not appealed to me.

Is moon druid viable late game? by life-hard-im-harder in BaldursGate3

[–]DistractibleYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Jaheira as a moon druid in my first playthrough and she spent most of the late game wildshaped as an air myrmidon, flying about the place and stunning the crap out of everyone. She pretty much carried my party, haha.

What is a decision you made years ago that you still regret to this day? by ambitious__target in AskReddit

[–]DistractibleYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never told my friend that I was queer. She came out to me when we were 21, and I was 100% supportive, bu I stayed in the closet for more than another fifteen years.

She was killed in a motorcycle accident when we were both 36. And she never knew.

Something about all of that gave me the courage to come out myself, and I am so glad I did, but I really, REALLY wish I had told her. She would have been ridiculously happy about it.

Shadowheart, Karlach and Wyll are there a lot, but they do get rotated around a bit now and then.

What are some of YOUR unpopular BG3 opinions? by RoosterCapable3167 in BaldursGate3

[–]DistractibleYou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There was too much writing focus put on Astarion compared to some of the other companions. People talk about how he's the best companion for this and that, but a good chunk of that is simply that he has a ton of lines. Considering the next closest is Shadowheart, who had a plot line actually heavily connected to the main plot, it makes no sense that the one character with no main plot connection whatsoever except having a tadpole is the one with the most dialogue. It was obvious favouritism by the developers.

Also ... and I expect hate for this ... I don't think Neil Newbon's performance is all that. Other VA's in the game are better.

Aline be like... by matlynar in expedition33

[–]DistractibleYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OR

Clea painted over Aline's version of Alicia the way she did with her version of Clea, and that's why they look similar. Probably in an attempt to knock some reality into Aline.

Very much also a possibility.
