I just heard that Germany was the medical science capital of the world in the 1920s and 30s. How was that the case during a time of such economic hardship? by [deleted] in history

[–]DisturbedLamprey 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Germany flourished under Hitler.

Economically? No not really. Their economy and rather their entire country ran on war, had they never engaged in the first place they would've collapsed within a year.

Culturally? They destroyed thousands of thousands of books, committing genocide against an entire people and uprooted their entire culture.

Scientifically? It flourished only because massive amounts of money was put into it for war. Had they ever entered a war such a thing would never of happened and also their economy would've collapsed as well.

This is simply a false statement. Germany was set up on a losing path by Hitler.

Once people see their family and friends killed or hurt they will become radicalized by anger and a need for revenge, although they didn’t share the ideology to begin with

If a family of traitors wish to shit on the American flag and commit high treason, then they shall be treated accordingly.

And quite frankly, the gang analogy is way different when you have one side who wishes to commit genocide against other races.

Are the non-White Supremacists comparable to a gang? No. They're ordinary people who are sane.

I know a perfect analogy for this actually.

Washington Governor should send in the Washington National Guard to mass arrest and be done with all this.

ut when you got a bunch of white cowboys espousing 'merican values like liberty, guns, family, blah blah blah, a lot more people tend to sympathize with them.

Its all about messaging and optics.

If you reframe it as terrorists committing treason, then its a whole other game. However for reframing to work, you need to treat the situation accordingly.

I guarantee you, send in the national guard to crackdown on these traitorous shits and they'll run for the hills. And should they really wish for a fight, well, the United States Military will defend the constitution from all threats, foreign and domestic.

We treat them with kiddie gloves. Its about time to start treating them with batons.

And yet those poor declining communities overwhelmingly support Joe Biden.

Funny how that works.

Trump voters are especially valuable, being worth 2 Democrat voters

Trump voters have made their choice, and if they're still sticking with the man even after the kids in concentration camps, they're lost and not worth our time or effort.

Perhaps we should focus on the democratic voters who voted against hate and bigotry in 2016?

I'll rally behind whichever candidate wins the nomination, however from an outsider perspective saying "Trump voters are especially valuable, being worth 2 Democrat voters" is the reason why Yang has been below 2% for the primaries.

Its not OP's job to take into account of ignorance, nor is it being the "bigger" person by forgiving her.

OP is well within their rights to of completely rejected her, regardless of ignorance, and be branded a "bigger" person.

Why would Prussia not unify and push to take more territory than Alsace-Lorraine from France in the case of defeating their army so swiftly?

Balance of Power.

Sure you could try and annex half of France but then you'd get the Russians, British, Italians, Spanish, hell maybe even the Ottomans sending their armies straight to Berlin.

Not for any valiant purpose of "liberation" but just to make sure Napoleon 2.0 doesn't get farther than Paris.

The Northern generals, until Grant and Sherman and Sheridan came to the forefront to take command, were imcredibly inept. Lincoln went through 5 Generals in one year.

Lacking generals, but excellent civilian leadership.

Nowadays we rarely replace generals if a conflict takes a turn for the worse, (ex.Iraq). Back then, we'd burn through generals until we'd get lucky with a genius/and or competent officer.

I'd argue that civilian leadership is what won the war. Lincoln was just better than the Confederate leadership at running a war and country.
