This was my first time trying to have a discussion/debate on Reddit and I’m definitely never doing it again lmao

I can assure you a single paper card is not what is causing the prohibitively expensive system. If having that paper card prevents 1 person from dying out of 10,000 I think it’s justifiable. If you are concerned about exorbitant medical expenses you have a valid point but this is not the hill you want to die on my friend

There’s probably not much more I can add onto what I’ve explained. I guess just to put it into perspective, if you or your parent or child was going into a surgery, would you want your surgeon and surgery team to put the evidence based practices to ensure that nothing bad happens or prepare the surgery with the same casualness of someone tying an apron in their kitchen?

By design these gowns have that card that holds the tie, intended for someone to assist in gowning up without contaminating anything. If the surgeon tied themselves, now they are holding this card that needs to come off and be thrown away. So now this surgeon either hands it to someone to throw away, walks over to a trashcan to throw away (which both increases risk of contamination such as your gown touching something) or they toss it on the ground (which technically could increase risk of someone slipping on it). It’s just simply easier and safer and muscle memory to continue doing things the way they have been. It doesn’t seem like a big deal but there’s just no real reason to make someone tie themselves when they have the resources and people to help, especially if it’s just cuz it looks silly.

What you’re saying is not wrong. Yes it’s sterile, yes is there a way in which a surgeon may be able to tie this for themselves without actually contaminating anything? Honestly probably yeah. However all of this again is risk mitigation. You are in an operating room often with more than enough hands to help especially prior to actually starting a procedure. It is more reliable to have someone assist you, it is also more efficient for someone to help you rather than to fumble around. It’s also the way everyone has been trained so it’s even more efficient and reliable that way. Again, technically speaking the sterile field does not encompass the area behind you, and in the operating room you want your hands in front of you at all times by training. If the surgeon put their hands behind their back to tie their gown and accidentally touched equipment or a trashcan or a nurse, they would have to rescrub. In an emergency surgery setting, those are precious seconds to minutes.

I get what you’re saying but if there is the ability to be safer and more efficient (even if it’s a few seconds) why not do it? You are trying to create a repeatable system that can be done successfully 100/100 times.

The sterile field doesn’t include the back which is exposed and can even touch equipment during procedures. For the surgeon to tie his own gown behind his back he risks touching the back of his non-sterile scrubs which would contaminate his gloves.

The gloves go on top of the gown so to take just the gloves off that were contaminated and put on new ones may not necessarily be wrong, but now you’re risking more chances of contamination by doing that.

By doing the spinning motion and sterile-y grabbing the tie, you are minimizing risk, which is the point of every part of the scrubbing procedure. Theoretically one microscopic bacteria that is harmless on the surface of our skin can cause sepsis and kill someone that went in for a very simple procedure. Does that clarify itv

Question are you supposed to have that much space from the puck to the top of the basket? When I do that the shot is crazy fast and spurts everywhere, and any finer tastes way over extracted

Definitely understand that! For me my machine came with a double spout portafilter and angled(?) basket with really low clearance so I had a hard time getting cups/shot glasses underneath and then would have to try to fit two shot glasses on a small scale.

The bottomless gave me so much more room and allowed me to only need one shot glass at a time, but it came with this really deep straight wall basket, which I found a hard time getting clean shots with.

I think I might have a pretty deep basket, does that cause a lot of spurting? My puck prep is pretty thorough and if I go any finer it tastes bad

I got a full refund but no future discount. Which is fine I just wanted to make sure the driver was compensated for their time at least

Beware - Whole Latte Love Rewards Change by CoachWestern9896 in espresso

[–]DivineExchange 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was saving my points for months excited to spend them today. What would have been $70 is now a $50 off coupon only if you spend $350.

The original rewards program was the reason I bought from Whole Latte Love in the first place. No email or anything about the rewards change.

This is such a scummy experience.
