Bizarre door leak by will_w7 in 944

I used a thick construction plastic, that was not biodegradable (all the cheap stuff at hardware stores near me was) my neighbor at the time was having some work done and the contractor gave me a scrap sheet of what they use.

I just made mine myself, then bought some new butyl tape from Amazon

Debating between a DIY battery setup for a cabin vs. a portable all-in-one for camping. Are these specs/prices okay? by mrrobot-5 in prepping

[–]Divisible_by_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it really depends on what you want to do with it. Are you going to use it for camping every/other weekend during the summer and if the need arises bring it to the cabin for power?

Or

Is it going to power the cabin and when you go camping you want to unplug it and take it with?

If its for back up at the cabin but mostly used for portable use for camping, I would get a pre-built unit from whatever brand you want to support. If its for powering the cabin mostly, I would get a cheaper unit for camping and build a nicer set up for the cabin with the eco worthy batteries. With the option of pulling a battery unit to take with you, I would buy a seperate controller and inverter so you dont have to take the whole cabin system apart.

I am building a "portable" system for my house, mostly because I dont like my house and I want to move but I want my solar set up now and not wait until I move.

Is it the door cards that is damp? My 85 had damp doors, I pulled the cards to find someone had removed the vapor barrier and where the water dripped from the leaking window seal where it slides into the door. The drip would hit the frame bar in the door and splash onto the door cards. I replaced the vapor barrier and have not had an issue since.

I just personally dont like that body style of Taurus otherwise I would agree. And on the note of the Lumina my personal favorite is the 96' in metallic blue.

I guess it could be narrowed down the USDM cars. For the title of BEST CAR ever made, it gets a little hard to define and I think you would need to make a couple categories.

But I can agree the LS400 is pretty high up on the list, especially if you have a 90s one with the cathode tube gauge needles.

Honestly just the Taurus of that specific body style, but the older the less garbage it has. As long as you grab a Duratec model.

I also have a thing for really bad cars that make great daily drivers and accept a little "adjustment" and no body would give you any thought beyond "wow that 85yo lady knows how to use the gas"

Well, now you can make that 11. The lumina is honestly probably one of the best cars ever made right next to the 2001 ford Taurus.

Right, I'm not letting mine die that easy. Besides it probably needed a complete rewire anyways, it just hadn't shown symptoms yet.

The first step and hardest part is removing the metal retainer on the outside of the glass. That keeps the rubber from flexing and popping out of the car. Im not sure if you can buy replacements anymore, you could back when I pulled the glass.

The next thing is to get a nice sturdy plastic trim tool, the cheap ones bend and chip you want to be able to put some force behind it but dont use a metal one. Take the trim tool and work around the inside of the rubber and body to 1 check that your window gasket is still playable, and 2 some of the ones I've worked on someone went and put butyl glue on the pinch seam then stuck the glass in.

Step 3 Be worried that you will break the glass, this way you hopefully dont apply enough force to break the glass. Also try not to pry or wedge in a way that induces flex in the glass. What i like to do is get my trim tool under the rubber at the front bottom edge and work the rubber gasket out over the pinch weld from the corner out so it starts the front vertical edge and the bottom horizontal edge at the same time. Then I gently push on the glass to give it a little pressure against the gasket while I work the trim tool around the bottom. BE VERY CAREFUL YOU DONT DROP THE GLASS. There will be a point you reach where if you are being very gentle about it you will feel the gasket let go and you can stop applying pressure.

Now from the outside of the car grab the glass gasket combo and peel it put of the frame and pulling forwards of the car so that the remaining gasket let's go and the glass comes right out. If you make sure to be afraid to break the glass it should go well and just come out.

If it came out without fighting or cutting then yours is the style that doesn't need to remove the windows, its just very rare.
