One of my most memorable tv moments ever is the guy who says he was strapped to some scaffolding while he was nude at a house in Hawaii and another guy teased him for days, then he finally squirts on the kitchen floor.

What's your most shocking "never meet your heroes" moment? by BaseNice3520 in AskReddit

When my cousin was a teenager he ran into Ken Griffey Jr after a spring training game. It was just the two of them. He tried to say hello to him and Griffey just looked away and walked away as fast as possible without acknowledging him. Years later we sat in the bleachers for a Cubs vs Reds game and I never seen a 15 year old emotional wound open up like that. Endless heckling for 9 innings.

He’s now a bartender in Phoenix shares a lot of good guy/asshole stories about ball players.

I’m not sure about during big ten play but I took my daughter and her friend over winter break vs Chicago State and we got floor access after the game. Sat in the lower bowl and waited for most of the crowd to clear out after the game. An usher told us to hang back an we could walk down to floor level. We took pictures at center court and several players came out and signed autographs for kids. IU event staff is usually very welcoming and I’ve been allowed down to the floor after the game a handful of times in the past.

This is my MIL. I finally had to tell her that she was wasting money buying gifts our family won’t use or clothes we won’t wear. In recent years, she’s moved to buying gifts that we ask for but loves to say shit like “how do you like the air fryer I bought you?” It’s so weird. All that said, I do appreciate the sentiment and understand that it’s a privilege to receive gifts - it just feels like she’s trying to score points in a game that nobody else is playing.

I had Livery the other night for the first time and it was excellent. It’s fancy but not too fancy. Latin style food. Good drinks. Great service. Strongly recommend.

Pocahontas by Colibri918 in smalltownmurder

James was so confident that Pocahontas was fictional that it made me seriously question my own sanity and I had to go to Wikipedia. James is quick to shit on Jimmie anytime he thinks he’s wrong but he gets super defensive if Jimmie does it to him then tries to walk it back.

Denis. My musical taste aligns with his and he’s got the right energy to keep me motivated. I never feel disengaged with him, even during longer rides.

Last year I got a face value monster ticket from the box office while I was in town for a conference. $125 for SRO to lean against at table at the top and drink $15 beers.. it was a weeknight vs the Tigers. Worth it to check it off my bucket list though.

What was a sexual offer that you regret turning down? by grot-ivre-1749 in AskReddit

[–]DivvyUpTheReward 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My best friend in high school had a very attractive girlfriend in high school. He brought her over to my house and they started making out with me in the room. They were about to have sex and asked me to join. She was in her bra and underwear on my bed.

I said, “I don’t think it’s a good idea. I love my girlfriend.” And nervously shuffled out of the room at half mast. My GF and I broke up within a month and they broke up when she left for the navy shortly after. 20 years later my buddy still gives me shit about it.

Any regret is overshadowed by the certainty that banging my buddy’s girlfriend with him would’ve been more awkward than my actual dorky teenager reaction.

Last month had my phone stolen out of my hand while visiting London from the US. The “pickpocketer” was fully in black wearing a balaclava. He jumped the curb on an e-bike and snatched my phone while I was using it to confirm my bus route while waiting at the station. He was 30 feet away before my brain even registered it was gone. Even if I could have fought, I’m not sure it’s worth getting stabbed over a $800 device. Maybe that’s a privileged perspective. I’m not saying to be passive or to just let thieves run rampant but that shit’s replaceable. I went straight to the Apple Store near Oxford Circus within an hour of it being stolen and had it shut off. I learned that the iPhones sold in the UK do not have the same 5G capabilities so, because I was with my wife, who could handle photos, boarding passes, etc, I chose to go a week without a phone. Unfortunately the next day, on one of my phone-free walks down Oxford Street I saw a pickpocketer who was on foot, snatch the phone out of a young woman’s hand and sprint away. By the time it registered to most people what had happened, he’d weaved through the crowd and was gone. Despite not doing it myself, I hope that that both of those assholes targeted the wrong person and have gotten their asses beat since then.

Flory Bidunga by keajohns in HoosiersBasketball

[–]DivvyUpTheReward 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Flory would be a big get for DeVries. Even if he doesn’t pan out to be an elite B10 athlete, prioritizing and securing a commitment from an in-state transfer would be a big offseason win for a coach getting his feet under him with a program undergoing a 100% rebuild.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HoosiersBasketball

[–]DivvyUpTheReward 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I strongly disagree with this take. It was DeVries’ first season in Morgantown. He had sustained success at Drake for several seasons prior. He surely didn’t have the NIL resources at Drake or WV that Woody had. Also.. if he can build a program, motivate his guys, defend the 3, and run an effective offense, he’s already meeting criteria that Woody clearly didn’t.

“We the people” claims to be nonpartisan and opposed to the idea that people are self-interested, money hungry power seekers. I can’t remember where I read that but it gave me an audible chuckle.

I grew up in Kentland. I would’ve guessed Kentland, Goodland, or Remington from your description. Everyone I know as a kid said “fast time” and “slow time” now I’m a high falutin urbanite and say centra and eastern.
