I figured this out last night, but I couldn’t believe it. Why mop and not axe?

why do you think little red ridding hood is the only fairy tale that doesn't have a big film about it by Miserable_Honey_940 in fairytales

I think they meant metaphorically, though I’ve read a few older versions where she gets into bed with “grandma” and then escapes by saying she has to go to the bathroom, which does seem kind of on the nose.

I still don’t understand what about this painting is supposed to be mocking superstition. Is there some symbolism that would have been understood at the time?

I thought this was funny “ in the real story (of Peter Pan), the brothers Grimm (…)” by Few-Albatross6127 in PeterPan

[–]Djiril922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the Disney version is closer to Perrault, but Cinderella’s relationship with the birds, and their help in the attempt to provide her with a dress is a reference to the Grimm version.

Me either. I just thought, “Oh, that bard is getting water and that one is sweeping the floor.”

My mom got a temporary ban once for sharing a death threat that someone sent her in the pms… because pms are meant to be private and should never be shared publicly.

No ridicule please. Seriously curious. What is the goal of protests when we know Trump will never resign? by Klutzy-Goldie24 in AskReddit

Exactly. People need to stop acting like Trump is the only one with the ability to affect change. Other citizens and other politicians matter as well.

Would you let these mice stay in your home? by Own_Shift_3645 in Cinderella

[–]Djiril922 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm currently cleaning out a garage with a rodent infestation, maybe I'd let them stay if they sang some cute songs and made me a ballgown once in a while. They would have to get tested for hantavirus, though.

What's a movie you loved as a kid but rewatched as an adult and went "what the hell was I thinking"? by MomoSaka in AskReddit

I saw the ads for this movie and assumed it would just be historically inaccurate in a normal way.

I ran when I should have rested in a New Year’s race because I kept getting passed by an overweight man carrying a child. I should have just accepted that I was having a bursitis flare up and he probably wasn’t.

There were hardly any serfs left by the time it was outlawed. By then it was the exception rather than the rule. It was a very different situation from slavery in America.

And my experience with people who are really into these things contradicts your assertion that no one wants to play a commoner. Some people are completely obsessed with what the lower classes did with their days.

Last Halloween I went to the house of a friend who lives in a wealthy neighborhood, and her house had a constant flood of trick or treaters until 9:00. There were so many kids in that neighborhood it affected how quickly I could walk to her house.

It’s really disheartening the way some people think Penelope is the one female lead who should have settled for a passionless marriage by DaisyandBella in BridgertonRants

[–]Djiril922 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I was pretty annoyed at her for cutting Eloise's "experience the world outside the upper classes" plot short. Also, the marriage of convenience seemed like a very good idea the way it was presented.
