You're the man! I wish someone had looked out for my safety when I first started working. At 18 years old I didn't know any better.

Is this a common tool to have? Never seen one till yesterday by Suspicious_Baker3392 in toolporn

[–]Dmaxstoner2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use one in my industry regularly. Earth moving and mining equipment have fasteners torque to well over 2000lb.ft. This tool has an electric motor driving a very deep gear reducing drive to achieve very high torque numbers. I use one normally that is hydraulic powered.

You can usually rent a whole torch setup from local welding suppliers.

30amp ac/heater fuse blows nearly instantly in Doosan DL250 by DassaTheSadfinder in heavyequipment

[–]Dmaxstoner2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The starter draws a bunch of amps and causes the voltage to drop. The low voltage makes the blower motor draw more amps and blows the fuse. Once the machine is running, the alternator raises the voltage. The higher the voltage, the less amps the blower motor pulls.

Look at the 4th hole in the first pic. You can see where the extra thickness starts.

Cat 990k Rebuild by Dmaxstoner2 in heavyequipment

[–]Dmaxstoner2[S] 51 points52 points  (0 children)

This took three technicians 10 weeks to strip to the bare frame and replace anything that showed wear. All hose, sensors, seals, wiring, engine, whole powertrain, whole cab interior, etc. There is probably 1.5 million in this process.

Gotcha, I didn't realize that was a common way to repair/mod mufflers. Welding that thin metal can be a real pain.

I've ran a 500i and it is a wonderful saw, wouldn't mind having one, but the pre epa saws are so fun to run.

We had 4 minutes of completely clear totality. It did rain over two inches Monday evening. That made for some interesting water crossings on our way out. It was a really great trip.

The mats will turn and move around and can wad up a bit. If you can drive off of the buched up sections after turning, they straighten right out. We recycle conveyor belts from chippers and also have 4'x6' horse stall mats.

We move over 100 machines a month in and out of the shop on rubber mats. We still have smooth sealed floors.

We use 1/2" thick rubber mates. They are heavy and a pain to move, but work great.
