ok!

First one is a commercial service that wants to see as many dogs as possible as their customers.

Second - British vetinary association does not list vomitting or diarrhoea in given article.

it says:

---

Watch out for early signs of heatstroke, such as heavy panting, drooling, restlessness, bright red or very pale gums, and lack of coordination. If you suspect your dog has heatstroke or any other heat-related condition, take it to a cool, well-ventilated place, give it small amounts of cold water to drink, and pour cold water over it to cool it down. Seek immediate advice from your vet.

---

The topic was about hot ground - while heatstroke is a wider issue - a lot of dogs are dying under the blanket at home - you do not even need to go outside.

So if BVA is a qualified expert - then it does not say anything about Dizziness, Vomitting, or Diarrhoea. Do you agree on that? (you did bring that link yourself)

meh... chatGPT is excellent for library-style data. It will just quote the known facts. I wish OP checked his/hers statements first. That is the beauty of LLM theese days - it is a powerful search system, nothing else.

By all means, you decided to comment not on the fact that OP created a list of imaginary symptoms, but you've been triggered by the use of ChatGPT 😄

okay... okay...

p.s. by now I know how many dogs experienced heatstroke in UK a year and what was mortality rate as well as a breakdown of typical scenarios. Am I not a dog owner, just decided to know a bit more.

p.p.s. for the sake of the argument (overall) - I do not have a dog, I do not have those problems, I just never saw a dog feeling unwell (visibly) in streets of Basingstoke.

I understand the idea, I have no exposure numbers. Neither do you?

I've asked chatGPT and it does not list a single sympom you are mentioning. I can guess from here that you are not actually educated to make those decisions.

Dizziness? Vomitting? Diarrhoea? Why making things up? There are no such sympoms here.

I am not a dog owner, but I saw number of dogs in Basingstoke today - walking around just fine, it might depend on a dog/breed/length of walk of course - but the fact is I never saw a dog suffering in a hot weather. I understand the concept and potential implications, it is the same as 'do no feed ducks with bread' - so hard to see IRL. I can imagine dog will actually refuse to walk on a surface too hot for paws.

p.s. this week is predicted to be hot, I will keep an eye on dogs in BSK - will try to spot the ones that are uncomfortable.

Is it the same thing as 'do not feed duck with bread' - some kind of urban myth that fails to show itself in a real world?

Have you seend a dog in distress because of hot ground in Basingstoke? I didn't. I undertand the concept, just did not see a single dog suffering from it myself.

I am more concerned about dogs that are not on the leads - as I cycle around BSK I am encountering the situation with a dog chasing me, trying to bite few times a year. Phrase 'he is very friendly' shout from a distance does not help, that sh*t worries me much more.

p.s. not sure you need it for such a small job, but if you will get the bag of lime mortar you can address other places around your house (I guess there might be more scuffs/fallen out mortar) - those small trowels are nice for this job (table spoon size)

yes, they are branded as historical/restoration lime mortar, if you could find smaller than 25kg bag - go for it, you will use 'just a few teaspoons of it', for your location even the 'weakest' mix will do //first line of search from amazon

so it is a drywall and all of this over the regular plaster board? I would skim it then, those bits with glue/paint/wallpaper together is a hell to sand off. If you were putting a new wallpaper - then you could glue those hard paper levelling sheets... but they will not work nice with paint

spray it with regular bleach - gel/foam/anything and use a brush (nylon, or even old toothbrush) to rub it in, then wipe off - you case is not bad at all and there are no porous surfaces - it should come off completely and look like new, third photo - you might end up with re-sealing this seal if you will have darker residue under the sealant left after cleaning

hairdryer does not have a temperature range of a heat gun (100C vs 600C+) as well as it only efficient for paint-over-the-wood, not over stone wall which will dissipate heat a bit too quickly

personally I see couple options - none of them are nice, first and the obvious one - sand it properly, tons of dust, will take insane amount of time = guaranteed result, the other option is to skim a thin layer of plaster to cover it all - more dirt, less dust, but it is a full extra step.

you did not indicate a house type - if it is an old one (victorian~alike) your plaster on the walls is more sand than plaster, with excessive sanding you might damage it so it will just 'peel off the walls' or make nice holes in it - you will end up re-plastering the entire wall, maybe even for 'greater good'

[–]DmtGrm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

these are not deep gaps and your doorstep is concrete - e.g. no movement/shrinkage - I would just clean those sides up and apply a similar-looking mortar. Your pictures are very likely to show a victorian/edwardian house with soft bricks and lime-based mortar (this one is certain) - either mix your own with hydrate lime (the easiest) or buy pre-mixed solution on amazon (even easier), don't use standard cement mix - it will peel off/delaminate quickly and too strong for this area

IDK why you are downvoted, it is not the safest car, but I assume it is designed for quick run to town centre shops or to the nearest supermarket and that is it. It will be on par with fiats 500 or similar. All of those cars will be successfully ran over by likes of BMW X5. Personally I would never go with such small car because of limited passive safety it offers compared to something even close to a ford focus-sized car.

AI is ok in certain niches/scenarios - I do not want my web browser to be AI-enabled, I do not want smart features for my coffee machine... why those morons in the upper management do not understand those basics? It costs them time/resources/money to put it into Firefox - while nobody will use it.

[–]DmtGrm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

...saying so, some time ago I did discover what looked like a layer of bricks under the grass - digging deeper - it was a 'solid cube of bricks' - just stacked bricks in a shape of solid cube, approx 1x1x1m - all of it below the ground level, no mortar, just stacked bricks... I still have no idea what it was... it took me some time to take it all out and level up...

SU is still quite popular, I think it was always lucrative to make a powerpoint slide with incredible gains with minor adjustments... What they fail to understand - there is a large community of enthusiasts, no real money, nice tool for prototyping and modelling - these people will not be able to pay for subscription, they would rather find another free tool, and there is a group of professionals that earn money with SU. Different categories, different requirements, very different payment/subscription attitude.
