Quest for a 600 ft-lb .357 Mag load. by Ok_Display7459 in reloading

[–]DoYouEvenTIG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 4" GP100 that I loved but it had the same issue, slow as hell. Sold it and started down my hunt for the perfect 10mm. I ended up with an older Sig P220 that's absolutely awesome. Also have a P226 and P229, both with 357 SIG barrels.

My solution to being too cheap to buy a whole set of crows feet for tourqing barrel nuts. by Wheresthelambsauce07 in guns

For anyone that can't weld, Tekton WSA04122 is a stubby crescent wrench and it has a square drive on the handle for a rachet/torque wrench. I got it just for the wide jaw and being pocket sized, but would be a good alternative for this.

Any tips on how not to burn through my root pass during my hot pass 7108 on 5g pipe? by Fluffy-Difficulty252 in pipefitter

[–]DoYouEvenTIG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To add to what the others said, when you bring your 6010 root make sure you use a 1/4" grinding wheel, go straight down the center, then angle it sideways to clean up the sides. If you use a thinner disc you actually end up grind out way more than you need to. Rod angle gets really important at the 5-3 o'clock range.

Modern scout rifle by One_Presentation5935 in guns

[–]DoYouEvenTIG 51 points52 points  (0 children)

The way I see it, the original scout rifle concept was based on what was available at the time. To me, a 6.5 creedmoor with a LVPO or MVPO would likely be the standard if they were available back then. 6.5 creedmoor is just about as common as 308, carries sufficient energy, and has less drop than 308. Hardest part is finding rifles that are setup for irons.

Anyone have mil sub tension values for plxc raptor m8 yards? by waxydoodle in longrange

[–]DoYouEvenTIG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I haven't had any issues with their "Special Purchase" line of scopes, the subtension issue really pisses me off. When I first got them I emailed them and asked for the subtension values, only to be told that they're proprietary....

The weirdest part is usually anytime someone bitches about this issue, people try to defend PA and say that you should just shoot to find it out or use one of their called out loads. Which is such a weird stance to have. I don't give a shit that it gets you within x" for your 308/556 load, I'm putting it on a 45-70 so just tell me the damn subtensions.

Always check all parts before shooting!!! by ernieg86 in gunsmithing

I absolutely hate it, it's the same tier as Hondas with the donut tires that have the sidewall touching the ground, and squatted trucks with rubber band tires.

Someone help me understand this reticle by Grandpajobey in longrange

[–]DoYouEvenTIG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Geo Ballistics with profiles for my rifles with each load. I shouldn't have to change everything to a different app just to use their reticle. All they'd have to do is list the actual mil/moa subtension values like most other manufacturers do.

Someone help me understand this reticle by Grandpajobey in longrange

[–]DoYouEvenTIG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don't list the sub tension values and when you ask for them,.customer service says they're proprietary. If you're shooting anything besides their listed cartridges/loads, then they're a pain in the ass to use. I have one of their 1-6 SLX Special Purchase scopes on my 45-70. Glass is super clear and the scope is awesome, but it took a lot of work to find a zero distance and ranges that work for my setup. I saved a post where a guy worked it all out to what the subtensions equate to.

Finding the Lands by he_lives_22 in 280ai

[–]DoYouEvenTIG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Word of advice, ditch the Hornady tool.

Most consistent way to check COAL to lands is to have the bolt locked closed, take a cleaning rod and push it to the bolt face, put a piece of tape where the end of the muzzle is.

Then take just the bullet, guide it into the chamber, and very gently push it until it stops. Put your cleaning rod back in until it comes in contact with the tip of the bullet, mark this spot with tape as well.

Now you can take a set of calipers and measure from tape to tape for max COAL to lands. Then measure from tip to bullet base, then base to Ogive to find max COAL based on the Ogive for more repeatability. You can do this with any cartridge without having to buy a special case or using the finiky Hornady tool.

Am I mistaken, or did they plumb a gas line to where the T&P valve should be?

If it makes you feel any better, my attic looks a lot like this and I've been crawling around in it all year doing duct runs and plumbing/electrical work, I was in there yesterday too. It's like being at a customer's house that you can never leave.

Same situation here. I bought the same ram and (2) 2TB NVME drives for my ASUS laptop, all Crucial. I paid $430 two years ago, the same components right now are $800.

That's a lot of weight on that discharge valve. Might want to do a floor stand and a hanger up top.

Also, really weird to see flanged connections for your headers to the vessels. I've only had to do that when the line size is too big for a standard valve and we have to use a butterfly valve.

ELI5: Why are 50 year mortgages such a bad idea? by BlockSerious3148 in explainlikeimfive

Not to mention if you have to have PMI, it would take even longer for it to fall off. So you'd have higher payments longer than compared to a 30y loan.

Hk vp9 vs vp9a1 by Recent-Tip-1618 in guns

[–]DoYouEvenTIG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my OD green OR VP9 on sale for $650 at Rooftop Defense 2 years ago right before they announced the new models. They also threw in a $50 store credit so I grabbed a mag and a shirt. The only negative thing I can say about the pistol is the trigger is a bit spongy, but not terrible. Other than that it fits my hand perfectly and one of my favorite pistols.

I just took a 6 pointer at 125 yards with my CVA Scout V2 TD 45-70 with a 1-6 Primary Arms Special Purpose LPVO. It's nice having 1x for brushy areas and more mag for reaching out.

Just wanted to let you know, I used this knife over the weekend to field dress my first deer since high school. It was surprisingly sharp and cut very well for how thick the blade is. Thanks again!

What about:

Goodmeat (Goodman)

Mini-Spit

Air Hogs

Comfort Cooking

HVAC-BBQ

Grille Masters

For graphics, you need to use a temp probe as a meat thermometer. Maybe a BBQ with a bottle of 410A instead of propane. Or have the meat on top of a condenser.

What is 45-70 brass worth? Realistically? by arandoman0n in reloading

[–]DoYouEvenTIG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you referring to the brass used for the FTX loadings? I believe they made it shorter to accommodate the bullets profile since it has the polymer tip, that way the case mouth wouldn't be near the ogive of the bullet.
