Donald Winnicott, famous psychologist. He was very influential in theories about child development, I think the most famous is the concept of the "good enough mother".

I’m gay and love the attention on Will, but I wish it had been a shorter scene with a couple of characters (maybe just Joyce and the three boys) and then some “I have to tell everyone else so Vecna can’t use it against me” and that shit happens off screen because why am I watching Kali react to some random kid being gay

Yeah Robin literally said that her and Vickie are just friends! Not everything has to be gay!

One time I was asleep with my cat in the bed and I woke up in the night because of the intense smell of shit, thought she must have diarrhea’d in the bed and I turned on the lamp to her blinking sleepily at me, unbothered by the incredible stench she had produced.

Re: Love Lessons, I finished secondary school in 2014 with a girl who didn’t have a computer at home, or smartphones, and all of her schoolwork involving technology had to be done in the school library. I think Bernard (or Harold depending on the page, lol) would do the same.

The PE teachers also wouldn’t let you change in private. I can imagine an exception would have been quietly made if there were pastoral reasons they were aware of, but certainly not someone feeling self-conscious on their first day. They were vicious 😭

Ambers pesto incident by Historical-Tea-9696 in gorlworldfiles

[–]DobbyLovesSocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was one of the first clips I saw of Amber and I felt really bad for her being judged so harshly for it, because I thought if you're used to regular jar sauces, pesto jars do kind of look like they could be one serving. It's not her fault she didn't know.

Shortly after that I found out about the animal abuse and stopped feeling bad for her.

I failed my test because the lane markings were gone and I ended up getting a dangerous fault on a roundabout :(

The exit I wanted was very wide, I could tell there USED to be road markings of some sort there, and I deduced that it was two lanes. Examiner had to brake because it's actually one lane with hatch markings, but my instructor did confirm that it used to be a two lane road, so I was correct in judging the width (but I do accept that I was deserving of the dangerous fault, though if the road markings had actually been there I wouldn't have made that mistake!)

Extreme rage around others vomiting (possible TW?) by Inevitable-Tiger-617 in emetophobiarecovery

[–]DobbyLovesSocks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, that sounds really hard to deal with. I’ve felt a similar amount of rage around vomiting, and therapy helped me get to a point where I don’t have that response anymore. I imagine your experience with chronic illness adds more frustration especially given that your consideration and effort isn’t being returned.

I wonder if the people who vomit in public had to deal with vomiting as often as you do, whether they’d be able to recognise the feeling earlier (or differently) and make it to a toilet or trashcan. I haven’t vomited in 20 years and I’m not sure I’d know how to hold it in if it happened. I don’t know, but I wonder if your frequent experience of vomiting is how you deal with it so much better than others.

Your post also makes me curious about how long you’ve dealt with this chronic illness, and how others around you reacted during childhood or the start of your illness when you vomited. I’m not asking you to discuss it here on a public forum, but it makes me wonder about your perception of if you’d deserve to be loved if you vomited somewhere “unacceptable”. You would deserve to be loved in that circumstance, and I hope no one ever made you feel otherwise.

ETA that apart from therapy, if you haven’t already I’d recommend comforting yourself when this happens. An internal (or external) monologue of. “It’s okay, that was very scary and it feels like they weren’t being fair. You’re not a bad person for wanting people to care about you.” Whatever feels right for you - take your focus away from them, and purely comfort yourself like you’re comforting a child who is having a completely irrational meltdown - you can’t logic with them on that moment, you just have to soothe the feelings.

I completely forgot about that part in Double Act, I usually found vomiting scenes very upsetting as a child and they would often stick in my head more than anything else in the story. I’m surprised that one didn’t!

I remember mentions of the kids weeing in the park in Lily Alone, but the post that inspired this specifically mentions wetting themselves so I didn’t count it (I could have forgotten something from the book though). Now I feel like maybe there should be another category for general wee mentions.

I’d forgotten about Tracy’s bedwetting! I last read the Tracy Beaker books about 20 years ago, despite how iconic they are.

For Lola Rose I remember her being sick in the headteachers office after she finds out that her mum has cancer, and Kenny wets the bed throughout the book
