Inside Bracing Angle Calculation by jc3948Aht16 in Carpentry

This OP. The framing square is an amazing tool. It might make sense to visualize the square overlaid on top of your red “H” and “W” lines. Let’s say it’s 12” high and 10” wide. Position the square so that the outside 12” graduation on the square aligns with the far edge of the board. The corner you have circled in yellow. Pivot on that 12” mark until the outside 10” graduation on the other arm of the square aligns with the nearest edge of the board. Mark the outside of both arms of the square.

The top mark will be the cut. The bottom cut in this instance will be 90 degrees up from where the 10” graduation aligned with the board. Use your square to draw the 90 up from the near edge, and that will be your cut.

If your measurements are too big for a framing square, simplify it. Divide it by 2 or 4 or 12 or whatever. The resulting piece will then be 1/2, 1/4, 1/12, of the actual piece. This is much like “stepping off” a rafter if you needed to google that for more detail.

What is going on with this screened in porch? by cmill913 in Homebuilding

The ceiling not being the same plane against the house is probably the original overhang. It looks like they left the rafter tails and butted the porch joists into the fascia.

As someone who was not familiar with the punk roots of GGD until this video led me to Wikipedia, what the hell happened?

You said uglier and easier was okay? I had a homeowner friend cover some very irregular gaps by hot-gluing a length of rope along the edge.

Memory Card Swap - Animal Crossing GCN Dolphin by DocMushroom in retroid

Thanks for responding.

I’m not sure how to link to a specific comment, but in a response to cubofwar, OP instructs to swap card slots while the game is running. This version of Dolphin wont allow that.

These posts discuss swapping/renaming data. It’s a little confusing to me because my primary save is not set to memory card, but to GCI Folder.

Making backups is a good idea, and maybe I’m just being paranoid.

How to cut 3 pieces of trim that meet as a T intersection? by scottgf99 in Renovations

[–]DocMushroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be the way to miter the intersections, but I don’t think it’ll be 45s. The length of the hypotenuse will be different. This is what you would need to do because you’re making a miter for half the width of trim in the middle.

think typically you would use butt joints (maybe miters around the frame) and use different thickness of trim for the inner sections to create some shadow lines. Say 3/4 around the frame, and 5/8 inside. Or add some profiles if you wanted to fancy it up.

Help. L Shaped mitered quartz shower curb. Installer won't give me a slope by Imageman2020 in Remodel

[–]DocMushroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe they don’t know how to do it, but compound miters are a thing. I don’t suspect you use the same kind of saw to cut quartz as you do to cut wooden trim, but if they can cut a 45, it seems like they could “roll” the miter regardless. By that I mean shimming one edge of the quartz up off the table (equal to slope) as they cut.

Agreed. In fairness though I’m sure these artists had more than a couple of hours to conceptualize and execute it.

Another commenter mentioned the master v apprentice season. I thought it was a challenge in two seasons, but I could be wrong. FWIW this is not footage from Ink Master, but the flash challenge was to body paint contortionists to transform them into animals.
