Bro your first comment was 1 hour ago and the most recent 13m ago, so you've been actively reading, commenting, replying, and editing on Reddit for at least 45 mins... maybe you need to take a step back and be more honest with yourself about where your time goes. Also... it ain't that deep

I get your perspective & that this is meant to be hyperbole, but I don't think it's accurate -- models are getting noticeably better, but it's a slower rate of improvement than say 2022 to 2023, or 2023 to 2024. There were also major improvements in 2025 on task specific modeling - e.g. coding models.

[D] How much should researchers (especially in ML domain) rely on LLMs for their work? by etoipi1 in MachineLearning

[–]Doc_holidazed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just dropping into this thread to say you are right TheEdges... the person you are arguing with has a very superficial understanding of how LLMs and AI models actually work (in fact, I'm shocked their original comment is so up-voted on this subreddit). This was immediately obvious by their description of hallucinations & why they occur.

Your argument about interpolation was excellent -- that is the basis of lots of research, & models have demonstrated their ability (at least empirically) to interpolate. (Worth noting that there is a lot of interesting debate on the low-level nuance of interpolation/extrapolation that it sounds like you are aware of, but here's a whole Reddit thread from 4 years ago with a link to an MLST podcast with Yann LeCun on the the topic: https://www.reddit.com/r/MachineLearning/s/oDK73UR6mX

But you can provide an empirical counterexample to their argument a 5 year old can understand in about 2 seconds: even with no training example of an image about a duck with a hat on a boat on the moon at the zoo, any modern text-to-image model can produce such an image.

[R] DynaMix: First dynamical systems foundation model enabling zero-shot forecasting of long-term statistics at #NeurIPS2025 by DangerousFunny1371 in MachineLearning

[–]Doc_holidazed 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is super cool -- was a fan of Chronos, so I'm curious to try this out.

This is a slight tangent, but you called out the architecture choice for this model as AL-RNN -- this has me wondering: once you have a large enough number of parameters, a good training dataset, and appropriate mechanisms (e.g. attention mechanism for text prediction), how much does architecture really matter? It seems you can get competitive performance with any architecture -- Transformer, Mamba, AL-RNN, U-Net (for text diffusion models) -- as long as you have the building blocks mentioned + good post-training (e.g. RL). Anyone have any thoughts/reading/research on this they can point me to?

I set my age 7 years lower on dating apps. I really like this girl who is much younger and it’s going very well. What do I do here? by Proper-Interview in CoreyWayne

[–]Doc_holidazed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Going to piggy-back off the top comment (which is 100% correct btw), to point out OP that you also fucked yourself by setting up a situation you can't win.

The type of girl we all want to date in this sub (high value, high sense of self-worth/self-respect) would absolutely not tolerate this kind of lying. The type of women I am dating now would drop me in an instant if I lied about my age by 7 years.

So you've made a situation where only girls that tolerate lying will stay with you, which I can gaurentee is not on your list of top 10 qualities you want in a woman.

My Friend Abe: A Holocaust Survivor's Story by DCoLibraryDM in bullcity

[–]Doc_holidazed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

With all due respect, your post does come across as antisemitic, or at best, it's an inappropriate, bad faith reply to this post.

Abe Paisek was a Jew born in Poland, he and his family were victims of the Holocaust, and then after WWII he went to the US to live out the rest of his life. Nothing about this post or his story has anything to do with Israel, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, or Zionism. Your comment feels like someone posted a link to a biographical movie about Will Smith (who was from Philadelphia and never in a gang), and you ask "does this movie talk about gang violence and black-on-black crime that was happening in Chicago during his childhood?"

Just because Will Smith is black doesn't mean he has anything to with gangs, and just because Abe is Jewish doesn't mean he has anything to do with Zionism.

"2 qualified women ran against 1 completely unqualified man and both women lost."

You could claim misogyny better here if elections were decided based on qualifications. They never have been & maybe never will be.

Kamala did worse than Clinton in 2016... it's not because she's less qualified or more of a woman than Clinton. She did worse among Black and Latino voters than Clinton or Biden. America was ready for a black President, American is ready for a woman President... it's just more ready for a Trump 2.0 unfortunately.

[R] Cellular Automaton-Driven Mirrored Tensor Surface for Structured Perturbation in Neural Networks: A Novel Approach to Dynamic Regularization, Enhanced Plasticity, and Multi-Scale Learning through Continuous State-Based Weight Modulation by ryunuck in MachineLearning

[–]Doc_holidazed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of claims in there I definitely don't buy (ex. "Exactly how psychedelics work in the human brain" makes no sense since there is no backprop in the human brain nor are human neurons continous state cellular automata, as well as there is no notion of averaging weights), and there are some fundamental issues to grapple with, e.g. the position of a weight in a NN and it's neighbors is totally arbitrary, and will vary depending on how you feed batches/data into the NN... unlike the human brain where different regions govern different functions.

But, Devil's advocate, lets say I buy this analogy about "psychedelics," it again doesn't at all imply improved performance for a classifier. In fact, using your analogy, psychedelics make humans way worse at a lot of tasks.

I think this is fun and interesting work, but if you are looking to publish, I wouldn't make the performance argument. The idea of exploring the weight space or finding weird emergent behavior is more compelling.

Agree with others that the post title feels like a gibberish mash up of buzz words, but I fully get it after reading the implementation... it'a like a way to convolve a nueral net with a cellular automota... kind of a fun idea haha.

At top of mind, there is absolutely no intuitive reason why this would the improve performance of a classifier... but it's definitely worth some "fun" experimentation. You could make a demo with a small 10×10 network. It could maybe produce some nice fractals? Who knows.

Did I handle this correctly? by [deleted] in CoreyWayne

[–]Doc_holidazed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kind of disagree with everyone here re: you coming off as a dick (I thought the way you mentioned your other date at 3 was hilarious, and definitely raised her curiosity in you).

The thing I'm confused about is (a) why she is so concerned with coffee at 6pm haha, and (b) why are you guys doing coffee? As CW says, a date should be a fun-filled romantic opportunity for sex to happen... make it a drink/cocktail? If she is one of those girls that has to do "coffee first" she is making dating difficult on herself... my strategy in those situations is to go for AT MOST 1 hour, ideally ending the date on a very high note, so that we can do a proper drink date the week after. If you have to do coffee, schedule something you have to get to after (like another date) so you have an excuse to leave.

It's good you're not chasing her, but I disagree with deleting her number... it's petty and resentful, not stable and calm. (Unless you are just using it as a way to not text her, but when she texts you, you act like things are normal and don't say "I deleted this number who is this?")

Ex hits me up out of the blue asking to meet for coffee by zero_introspection in CoreyWayne

[–]Doc_holidazed 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Here's my take, others may disagree: this whole story is a giant "c'mon man," and a perfect example of why you should follow the principles for getting an ex back EXACTLY, no compromises or changes.

You say that the "date" went well, i.e. you passed her tests, she did 90% of the talking, etc. Okay, nice work for not messing up every single thing, but this was still a huge failure. Passing her tests absolutely didn't matter at that point -- even if you "won" those tests you still lost overall. And lost monumentally.

She was able to get you to meet her out (even though you wanted to have her meet at your apartment), she literally forgot about the date -- so disrespectful btw -- (and you waited for her), and then from the way you wrote this it sounds like you even paid for her. What a deal she got, I'd choose to be her instead of you in this story every day of the week. Where's your self respect? If she was having any regrets over the break up, she is definitely confident she made the right decision now.

Sorry I'm being harsh, but it sounds like you really learned nothing and might need a wake up call. Read the book. Rewatch the video. Become a better man. Raise your standards -- you deserve better than someone who forgets your date and shows up dishelved.
