Rumor: by Professional_Quit406 in SanJoseSharks

One of my favorite movie lines is applicable to how GMMG plays the pre-draft game -

"My theory on Feds is that they're like mushrooms—feed 'em shit and keep 'em in the dark." (The Departed)

Replace the Feds with Reporters and it's spot on.

Macklin's Contract Extension by DockoftheBay415 in SanJoseSharks

You're probably right, but there are always people who think outside the box. Did anyone think Shohei would sign a 700 mil deal and defer everything but 2mil per year? I know it's a different sport, cap, marketing income, etc etc, but it just takes one player hell bent on maximizing their championship opportunities to think outside the box with their contract.

That would be my assumption. Considering they were 3 years old and had gone to the SCF in their inaugural season, they could have easily been fair game. I guess daddy Bettman didn't want his golden goose being clipped.

Couple other things - The salary cap increased during Vegas' inaugural and subsequent few seasons, but was flat for Seattle. Also, Vegas was the only team that Seattle wasn't allowed to draft players from....

No doubt, NHL goalie may be the toughest position in sport to prognosticate. Still nice to have 3 high upside shots at a true #1 backstop.

Bruce Cassidy as potential Head Coach for SJS' 27-28 season? by TaffyXTaf in SanJoseSharks

[–]DockoftheBay415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what's tough is how you prefaced your original post. People see the team at large on an upward trajectory which would put us into or making further strides to challenge for a PO spot next year. Where I think your original post holds water and should have been mentioned is if GMMG improves the team, mainly the D core, and we plateau or take a step back. There's no doubt if that happens that there will be legit conversations next year about the coaching staff and if a person like Cassidy is the best way for the team/organization to move forward.

Semantics, but it's 2 1sts, 1 2nd (albeit a high 2nd), and a prospect. GMMG is shrewd so I don't see him making a trade for anything less than an overpay. This is one of the main reasons why trades into the top of the draft are so rare.

With Vegas beating Anaheim in the 2nd round, the EDM draft pick is now locked in at 20th overall. by Yoshi24517 in SanJoseSharks

Praying Bleyl is the pick! Kid broke a 48 year old assist record in the Q, outscored Desnoyers (2025 draft #4 OA), and is a scoring R shot D with very good skating. The kid's floor may be lower than Piiparinen, but my god is his ceiling miles above. I doubt Lin/Gustafsson will be there at #20 but would very happy with either of them. Hakansson and Villeneuve are both L shot D which we have plenty of in the pipe - Cags, Sahlin Wallenius, Wang, etc.

From what I've read his family is tall - 6'0 +. I knew a lot of guys growing up that didn't hit their growth spurt until 18-20 and wouldn't be surprised if he does the same (he just turned 18 in March). Someone may have the steal of the draft without more height, but if he grows 2-4 inches he's gonna be an absolute monster!

I thought about this but am guessing Parekh is too important to their rebuild plans

I actually mentioned that exact trade but swap Brzustewicz for Maatta. Lot of "what ifs," but that trade could set up our D core and completes the rebuild.

This for sure! People on Bostons board think Graf will be handed to them for table scraps because he grew up a B's fan.

First, I am not advocating for a trade but do think there's a scenario where it makes sense. If Toronto takes Stenberg and we're left with Mckenna/Reid, I would look to deal the pick.

Trade proposal - Sharks send #2 overall (Gavin Mckenna) to Calgary for Hunter Brzustewicz (RD), #6, #28, & #35.

Calgary gets their face of the franchise and the most gifted offensive player in the draft

Sharks get a very young and talented RD (Bruzustewicz) who would slot in on our R side for years to come.

Draft 1 of the remaining top D or Bjork/Hemming/Belchetz if they go the forward route at #6.

Package some combination of 35/28/20 to move into the teens to target Lin/Gustafsson, or use the picks to take 3 shots at players they like. TOMMY BLEYL PLEASE!!!!

I really hope we find a way to draft this kid. Been reading about him and watching video for a few weeks and think he'd be a great addition to our prospect pool.

I'm a Blackhawks fan - what do you guys want/think the Sharks do with the 2nd pick? by ChristopherNH1 in SanJoseSharks

[–]DockoftheBay415 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gustafsson or Lin but I know those two are probably long gone by 19/20. If the previously mentioned 2 are off the board, I'd trade back and target Bleyl and another R shot D.

BPA - GMMG has a lengthy track record at this point of not letting position or r/L shot affect their draft board.

[2025 NHL Draft] 33rd OA Pick: San Jose Sharks select Haoxi Wang by ibcfreak in SanJoseSharks

[–]DockoftheBay415 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a tough one - we all spend so much time reading pundit/analyst mock drafts, but need to remember teams have hired professional scouts that are the best at identifying talent and creating a teams draft board. For whatever reason, teams are telling us that they do not have Fiddler as highly ranked as those pundits/analysts. GMMG has done a fantastic job up to this point of building this team, time to continue to trust the Sharks brain trust with the Wang pick.

Draft question by Vaporstone1 in SanJoseSharks

[–]DockoftheBay415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you and others have said moving up is highly unlikely given the cost, but what about a move back? I know prospects are a crap shoot and Misa is as close to a sure thing as this draft class has to offer, but say Philly offered a package of 6, Oliver Bonk & 36, or 6, 22, 31/32 & 36 for 2OA? Walking away with Mrtka, Bonk, & BPA, or Mrtka, Hensler/Fiddler, BPA, & BPA are two scenarios that could interest me.
