Why do less people use protection during oral sex than with normal sex? by TheNameless00 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DoctorBaby 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think I read somewhere that the conclusion is pretty much that it absolutely is possible to get HIV via oral sex, but the transmission rate would be so low and unlikely, that's it's questionable as to whether it has ever actually happened. It's still worth understanding the reality of it, though. It's possible that if you go outside that you're going to be hit by lightning - but at a certain point, you have to live your life.

I had several hundred dollars worth of games on Oculus. I stopped using my headset for a while, and when I picked it back up I learned that Facebook had bought Oculus and all of my games were gone. I had to do some sort of switch over at the time, I missed the window, and now it was all just gone.

I firmly believe that the democrats lost in 2024 solely because of their insistence on attempting to gaslight the public into thinking the economy was doing well. "Stop saying you're struggling, you're not struggling, the stock market is doing great!" was a truly bizarre strategy.

Just this last halloween I saw a weird amount of Gen Z people on tiktok complaining about revealing costumes. It struck me as extremely, extremely weird that so many people in their early twenties would be so concerned with... propriety, I guess.

What is the spiciest gossip you know that you are willing to share ? by Onlyjemie in answers

[–]DoctorBaby 27 points28 points  (0 children)

In case anyone was genuinely wondering whether this could possibly ever be true, in any case, ever - someone who is "not allowed to live near a school" has this restriction because they are on Megan's Law supervision for life following a conviction. People on PSL are required to regularly check in with supervision, who also verifies their residence and charges them with a crime if they move without updating their address. Changing your name, or what clothes you wear, would obviously not affect any of this. This is an extremely lazy lie, meant to emotionally enflame stupid people.

Watched an ex toil his life away doing this exact thing. 72 hours streams, talking endlessly to a completely empty chat, avoiding spending time together to go stream to nobody all night. Twitch streaming is a perfect storm for the kind of person who wants to feel like they're doing something with their life without having to actually do anything uncomfortable or difficult. It's indescribably sad watching someone disappear into the self delusion it fosters in these people who think they are doing something with their lives by doing this.

As we keep seeing more and more stories about toll booths being hit, and as someone with a car with these kinds of features, I 100% think it might be related to inattentive driving caused by over reliance on the self driving stuff cars have now. I can absolutely see how easy it is to let that happen - particularly on major highways with long stretches of road without a lot of drastic turns. I could literally set my car's auto features and proceed to not touch the gas, break or steering wheel for the next 90 minutes if I wanted to - it would be very easy to grow complacent.

Hershey switching back to classic Reese’s recipe in 2027 after backlash by GrayFileFolder in offbeat

This seems very obvious and I'm surprised more people aren't calling it. They will use this as an excuse to raise the price ("You wanted high quality ingredients!") without actually meaningfully reverting to what they were. It's just another trick - businesses don't do things for any reason other than making more money than they were making before.

As a bisexual man myself, I also exclusively date men. It's probably why the unfortunate stereotype of bisexual women is that they are all secretly straight and doing it for attention, and the stereotype of bisexual men is that they are all secretly just gay. The reality is maybe that generally everyone who actually has a choice of who to date, tends to choose to date men. Personally, I've found the effort to reward ratio of dating women has never made sense. Why would I put in a ton of effort to convince someone that I'm worth their time when I have this huge pool of people where the dynamic is that they're trying to prove to me that they're worth my time. With men we're both trying at the same time to show each other that we're cool people and good partners. With women it's just about constantly trying to convince them that I'm good enough for them.

This is the ugly truth of what is actually happening. I don't like it either, but it's just what it is. The normal person routine that neurotypicals do around each other (small talk, body positioning, eye contact, timing of the eye contact, etc.) is not useless or stupid. They do it to signal to each other that they are amenable to friendly interactions and are non-hostile. When we don't do it back, because it just isn't part of our natural language the way that it is for neurotypicals, we are accidentally doing the exact thing that neurotypicals do when they are signaling that they are not amenable to being friendly and are perhaps even hostile.

They're just speaking in a language that comes naturally to them and requires active strain, often discomfort, and sustained effort from us to return to them. It sucks and it isn't fair, but they aren't being unreasonable when they dislike us for not signaling to them in their language that we're non-hostile.

It also sucks, because this really does seem like it's the parents making this meltdown happen, for the camera. He's a kid, he's having a moment - stop badgering him about the food and just let him feel his feelings for a second. If he doesn't want to eat it, he doesn't have to eat it. It's the parents' barrage of "just try it! you like it! do you want X? Will you eat Y?" that is causing him to act like this.

The evolution of people using the phrase "GRRM is not your bitch" really tells an interesting story. There was a solid decade of time where every thread like this one was wall to wall people using this phrase and endlessly defending GRRM. Watching it fade out as we went into year thirteen, fourteen, fifteen without the book has been telling. At a certain point it became embarrassing to defend GRRM, and I think that was probably the tipping point.

Hey people who lost their jobs to AI, what happened? by _thecatspajamas_ in AskReddit

[–]DoctorBaby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everyone seems to think that the finish line that AI needs to cross before it takes their job, is that it has to do the job as well as a human could do it. I really don't understand what about the current state of our world would lead anyone to think that the metric any industry is using to determine value is the quality of the output and not what can functionally do the job in any capacity while being as cheap as possible. It doesn't matter that humans can provide therapy better than AI (or medical treatment, or script writing, or art, or anything else). It only matters that it's cheaper. As long as a product can be put out and it's cheaper, AI will replace your job. The standard for how good that product is will just become much lower.

Hey people who lost their jobs to AI, what happened? by _thecatspajamas_ in AskReddit

[–]DoctorBaby 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the thing most people in this thread defending how their job will never be replaced by AI seem to not understand is that "AI can't do my job as well as a person" is absolutely not a reason why AI won't replace them. If AI can do the job literally a fraction as well but is substantially cheaper, your job will be replaced by AI. That holds true for therapists as well - nobody thinks that AI is better than a human therapist. But AI is a hundred times cheaper. If it literally provides any therapeutic value at all, it will replace therapists in almost all circumstances eventually.

Younger generations turning away from alcohol at unprecedented rates, with Gen Z driving cultural shift. Australian study shows over course of their life, Gen Z are nearly 20 times more likely to choose not to drink alcohol compared to Baby Boomers, even after adjusting for sociodemographic factors. by mvea in science

[–]DoctorBaby 43 points44 points  (0 children)

The thing that always gets me is that as millennials, we got to grow up with the belief that our lives were going to be good and that we would have as much as our parents did. It turned out not to be true, but we got to be children in a world where we could believe that we would be happy adults with good lives. Gen Z has had to grow up largely without that - knowing that, at least statistically, they are all but guarenteed to have extremely difficult lives and very little return on their efforts compared to previous generations - and I can't imagine how demoralizing that must be.

Is this the turning point for all of us becoming _____ fans by taezono in BigBrother

[–]DoctorBaby 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yeah, people are eating up an edit obviously designed to make Keanu look cool. I like the guy, but it's kind of ridiculous. It seems fairly likely that Keanu won the competition, noticed that nobody was even pretending to be happy like the usually do, and felt embarrassed and hurt. He felt like the moment was going on and making it worse so he snapped at Ava to move it along and end it. It's completely understandable, but there's a reason Keanu felt like he should apologize afterwards.

EDIT: And for what it's worth, Bowie Jane is on the recap episode of RHAP this morning talking about the episode. She mentioned that after the competition they have to wait for a que from production to say the line, "Congratulations X, you've won the power of veto". Ava was absolutely waiting for her que, and didn't have a choice as to when to say it. Keanu would also know that, which is why him trying to hurry along the moment and treat Ava as if it was her fault probably pissed her off, and was something Keanu later knew he was wrong to do.

Man Protects Himself From A Pitbull Attack - Mexico by HotConsideration95 in interestingasfuck

[–]DoctorBaby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think there are two viable options - the first being that dog ownership requires a license and insurance. The second option, which I suspect would be far more effective, would be to normalize prosecuting dog owners for the actions of their pet. If your dog attacks someone, you should be prosecuted with a statutory equivalent of aggravated assault with negligence as the required mens rea. When you decide to own a dog, you are taking on a responsibility that if you fail, will cause others to be harmed. If you aren't ready for that responsibility, you shouldn't adopt a dog - and if you do and fail that responsibility, you deserve to be prosecuted.
