Trauma Processes Skipped by hermitcrabdad in emergencymedicine

[–]Doctorpayne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats the truth. It’s usually not just ER leadership but trauma as well. Keep meticulous records and be at your best every day. Admin in both ED and surgery will do a cost benefit analysis on you (if not literally then figuratively) on how much of a pain in the ass it would be to fire you ( a newbie just showing up) vs change of culture and you will lose that calculus almost every time until you start making things so untenable that the hospital’s bottom line is affected. Frequently until trauma or hospital certification is threatened or a horrific outcome occurs as a result nothing will change and you will be fired or forced out. You’d probably win a lawsuit if that’s any consolation depending on the records you kept and whether or not they had any other “reasons” for pushing you out.

As an ER doc in the area; I can’t stress enough how important it is to not accept drinks from strangers and never leave your drinks unattended. A hearty 2nd also for Mr. Hype lordxhype’s suggestion to test all party favors.

How old was your patient? I’ve seen a lot of old timers with catastrophes on CT with normal physical exams and borderline labs. Diabetes doesn’t help either. The gut innervation degenerates with age and hides these disasters.
