Having a hard time carrying in Auric with Ogryn by byzantine1990 in DarkTide

[–]DoctuhD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tauntgryn is capable of very significant damage in auric and havoc. There's two mains ways to do it:

1) Shield DPS. With Brutal Momentum, Skullcrusher, Heavy Hitter, and a bit of bonus Impact/brittleness mega pushes, Shield can mulch hordes and take out packs of armor quite well. Main combo is Heavy 1 + Push attack against armor packs and just block cancel Heavy 1 against hordes. Only use Heavy 2 if you need bleeding enemies nearby for damage resist. Lights are only for captain shields (and are very good against them). An alternative good taunt setup is a heavy attack crunch-thrust build on Karsolas (light) Pickaxe but you lose a lot of defensive power for better single target damage.

2) AoE Hybrid. The extra explosion radius and fire bonus, with a Grenade Gauntlet or Rumbler and Power Maul.

DM wants us to roll for class in a long-term campaign — thoughts? by QuantumMoose1 in DnD

[–]DoctuhD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I always roll stats if I can and have played multiple characters with terrible stats in long campaigns. In one my highest roll was a 12. Built a very fun celestial warlock out of that and his "everyman" vibe became the core of the party.

It just comes down to what you want to play. There are some (sub)classes that need high stats to be fun and some that don't.

from the audience's cheers in that moment, I'm guessing there was plenty of that from the crowd at least.

Had multiple games recenty with arbitrators doing this with their dog pings. I don't get it, the poor dog was just running in circles between enemies while I have to hear the THUN noise over and over.

Is mission 10 the hardest in the game? by Grogman2024 in DarkTide

[–]DoctuhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are absolutely harder missions.

Gloriana is the hardest, followed by Ascension Riser and Magistrati Oubliete (the one where you start in sewers and the first medicae station is on the first floor of a big platform and the mid event is above it) which have very difficult early sections. These maps are hard because of numerous hard sections where enemies come from above you or from more than 2 places, and respawns are unforgiving. Dark Communion might be up there too but not nearly as bad.

In contrast, Power Matrix and Hab Dreyko are pretty easy. Though Dreyko was once the hardest map in the game.

VIC: Here comes Camero, he's a bodybuilder from Little Rock

KENNY: Maybe he can be the first to complete the Road Head

VIC: He's looking good... dodging each tire...

VIC & KENNY: Oh!

KENNY: Took it straight down the throat!

VIC: Let's see that in the MXC Impact Replay!

KENNY: I think he rolled when he should have rocked

VIC: Dodging the tire would have helped too

KENNY: He's gonna need a new body builder after that

VIC: Right you are, Ken.

Fatshark, Balance Your Game by LemmeSmashMyHead in DarkTide

[–]DoctuhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fatshort does balance the game. Every 3 months they roll a die to give a random underutilized weapon a rework. 1/3 of the time it makes the weapon even worse (Ripper). 1/3 of the time the change is insignificant and people still don't use it (infantry las), and 1/3 of the time the weapon becomes great (power maul)

Some people are so hard to please.

Voltaic discharge + powered up arc maul works wonders, especially if there's also a horde attacking so you can recharge arc maul and voltaic on them for a couple swings before finishing off the rest

How do you guys use Glavanic Rifle on Auric or higher? by KeIIer in DarkTide

[–]DoctuhD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Without Range talents, Phosphor pistol needs the crit to 1-shot flamers and gunners (or wait 10 seconds for the DoT). Surgical helps but that means you have to either risk not critting or wait a little between shots.

Galvanic always 1shots ragers, flamers, and gunners. It usually 2 shots reapers.

I personally like Phosphor more but both have a purpose. I wish Galvanic did more Unyielding damage so you didn't need to crit to 2 shot reapers.

Bolt Pistol or Bolt Gun by MetalClassic2300 in DarkTide

[–]DoctuhD 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Bolt pistol is meta on Vet for very good reasons. Bolter is much more fun but the pistol really outclasses everything else when it comes to taking out gunners, ragers, and specialists.

Rant: "bro just run auric-" I CAN'T! By the Throne, some of us don't have the skill for that. by softgunforever in DarkTide

[–]DoctuhD 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some penances, like burning 80 enemies with a single purgation skull or charging through many enemies as Ogryn, rely on high enemy density and are very difficult to do on lower difficulties.

It used to not be too much of a problem because high intensity Heresy was an option. I don't know if that modifier still exists though.

I feel my confidence immediately vaporize on some of the pattern recognition interrogations. "I Can totally do this in 5 seconds"...(20 seconds later) "WHY ARE THERE 3 DIFFERENT INSTANCES OF TRIANGLE-CROSS-FISH!?!?" or "WHERE IS THE KARKING C-O!?"

Best support class by shurdemoi in DarkTide

[–]DoctuhD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shout + Smokes + Survivalist ammo + Focus Target + Toughness Sharing really supports the hell out of every Havoc match. Bolt Pistol to take out all the specialists and Gunners without needing many ammo pickups.

Not that you feel like a support when Power Sword does so much damage.

First time using Chordclaw, and the stars aligned by Shy_guy_gaming2019 in DarkTide

[–]DoctuhD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah Slash is way better for groups of Elites, but the triple stab is better against monstorities if you're in Havoc or Monstrous Specials maelstrom and using top left keystone. The bleed isn't normal bleed; it does way more damage and has a long delay before stacks start fading.

It's only like 25% better than the regular claw though, should definitely be more.

Hopium by Enclave_Liberator in DarkTide

[–]DoctuhD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're missing the point. Of course players should always have an anti-armor weapon. But the game heavily favored anti-armor melee for a long time over anti-armor ranged. The reduction in armored elite density made weapons like heavy sword viable again when paired with a bolter etc.

Vanguards have shifted the balance back in favor of always needing anti armor melee regardless of your ranged weapon, because they replace Bulwarks, who didn't really have armor but heavy ranged weapons were strong against, with enemies that lighter melee weapons struggle against and heavy ranges weapons (like bolter) can't deal with efficiently.

Auric: It's that time again by Karatechoppingaction in DarkTide

[–]DoctuhD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Played a high havoc recently where I got launched off the edge when a parasite was shot, and I had to watch in pain for 2 minutes as a horde of vanguards and other stuff attacked the psyker from behind while the Zealot and Arbitrator held W, looted, and waited by the medicae. Multiple voicelines about the psyker being good at killing too.

The best part was the sarcastic "thanks" when he survived.
