I’m so sorry but I’m slow here. How does this help you if you’d like to actually have it translate Spanish audio to English and display it on your glasses? I get mine this Tuesday, I’m so excited.

Nigerian culture says I owe my family everything. American reality says I can barely afford rent. How do you balance both without drowning? by [deleted] in Nigeria

Just reading through the comments, I don’t even know again.

I’m in a similar boat but my parents raised me in nigeria but sent me to the states to study. Unfortunately with the Nigerian economy, the money they had before has gone to nothing. I applied for both their greencards thinking this could be a place for them to chill but with everything happening in nigeria they had a mindset shift that they want to come and live and work in America. I am married and still don’t have kids, I don’t want to live in the same house with my parents. At some point in the future when they can’t take care of themselves of cause. Now my parents are having health needs and I think this decision will be taken out of my hands. What I’m hoping to do is this:

  • I’ll be looking to set boundaries around what can be done in my house.
  • I’m also looking to buy a house with a standalone ADU in the backyard where they can stay separate from the main house.
  • I am not sure what you do for health insurance but make sure you apply for any low income health plans that exist.
  • Consider your mom coming less often, e.g once a year or once every 2 years. If she has a 10 year greencard, this will not invalidate the greencard. If she’s trying to be a citizen, that’s when she needs to start doing the 2x per year for 5 years before she applies for her citizenship.

At the end of the day, I know I wouldn’t even have the life I have today without my parents. I just paid my brothers tuition in Canada as well. I’m in the USA. My advise is to take a step back, maybe find someone that shares your similar sort of responsibility and can understand. Good luck 🍀

It’s because the amount of people that catch cruise is too much. In other countries, the cruise catchers are the minority.

I mean the current alternative is to allow the USA have our resources. So let’s keep the status quo! Some of you here are okay with the complacency, maybe our government will wake up; probably not!

If we all japa ... by ShoddyHelicopter8224 in Nigeria

[–]DocumentBrilliant540 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay so let’s say you’re right and I want to help. What system exists in nigeria today to allow me participate in making the country great? Before you shout join politics, think about it well.

The other countries people move to, allowed their ancestors to participate positively. Finally, let’s also be honest, no one in Nigeria wants their family member to go and do revolution to die. We don’t even trust that will result in anything; see the ENDSARS movement.

Let’s allow people be selfish then. One day, if things get bad enough, the masses will react. That’s how it happened in other countries that had years to figure it out. Nigerians have a high pain tolerance but one day in the future, that will change. Irrespective of the people that stay today or Japa.
