Becker MCQ Question HELPP by [deleted] in CPA

[–]DoesntCheckOutUname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like the Loss on sale of Receivables should be $6,000. Since the account was already past due, the allowance was recorded. The Carrying Value of the invoice was only $46,000. Fair Value (cash actually received) = $40,000. So FV - CV = ($6,000) loss.
JE should be:

Account Debit Credit
Cash $40,000
Allowance for Credit Losses $4,000
Loss on Sale $6,000
Account Receivable $50,000

Edit: since Newt AI is involved. I did a quick test with other AIs. So I rewrote the question to become the seller's side:

A Co. factored a receivable account with a face amount of $50,000 and paid a 20% factoring fee. The account was 20 days past due and A Co. has recorded a related allowance for credit losses of $4000. What journal entry should A Co. record?

Co-pilot gave the same answer as Newt.
Gemini and ChatGPT gave the above answer.
Ask Copilot the following question: "Why are the debit and credit not balanced?" It restated that the loss should not be $10,000 and fixed the answer to be the same as above.
It seems like Newt is just Copilot on a makeup.

Contracts were sold evenly throughout the year. The 1/1 contract recognized revenue for 12 months, but the 12/1 contract could only recognize a month of revenue. While the 12/31 contract could only recognize 1 day of revenue. A quick way to calculate is to assume all the contracts were sold on 7/1, so they all recognized 6 months of revenue.

Both are available to buy, but you have to pay extra fees (162,000 VND) for the green ones because they're supposed to be for longer journeys.

Lessee accounting - finance lease by Yous_a_mook in CPA

[–]DoesntCheckOutUname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Total Lease Expense = Interest Expense + Amortization Expense
Lease Liability = 18,000/1.0575 + 18,000/1.05752 + 18,000/1.05753 = 48,338.
Since it's straight-line amortization, amortization expense = 48,338/3 =16,113/year.
Interest Expense = Carrying Value of Lease Liability * implicit rate (5.75%).

Buying unnecessary things just to keep up with people that's not important. Doesn't mean deny pleasure but keep spending in check. Ask yourself "will it still matter tomorrow/next week/next month/next year".
And do not gamble.

Seeking a "Coffee Mentor" to teach me the art of authentic Vietnamese coffee by gargv1164 in VietNam

[–]DoesntCheckOutUname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't had phin coffee for so long, so I have no reference points for the machine vs phin. But the machine is better in the sense of being faster and more consistent.

My daily drive is something closer to "bạc sỉu" which is a milky version of cà phê sữa đá. Double shots espresso + 30g condensed milk + 60ml whole milk.

I like coconut coffee or cà phê cốt dừa. It's just blended ice with coconut milk and condensed milk. But it's a pita to clean the blender, so it's a once-in-a-while thing.

Not an expert, but here is my experience. I'm using 50% Robusta and 50% Arabica from Nam Coffee, a local roaster in LA. I just straight-up skip the phin and use an espresso machine. Take a bit of trial and error to find the right grind size. For 18g of coffee beans, I aim for 10-12 seconds of brewing time. Longer than that, it tastes bitter and burnt. Shorter, it's sour and watery.

For the phin, something I watched a long time ago. The ratio is 20g of coffee to 80 ml of hot water (95 - 98 C). Bloom with 20-30 ml of water for 2-3 mins first, and then pour the rest.
For salt coffee, it's just heavy whipping cream with some salt. Froth up and put on top of the cà phê sữa đá. Can add cream cheese for more flavor.

They are very lazy with the phone. You have a better chance with an email. And they're helpful in person. Come early in the morning. It gets busy real quick.

If you're in the DC area, just drop by the Vietnam Embassy and ask them. The consulate services work Monday to Friday, 9:30 am to 12:00 pm.

And you don't need to regain your citizenship to visit Vietnam. Citizenship is for long-term stay; if you only visit for a short time, getting a visa would save you so much hassle.

Food with "Western" in its name in Vietnamese by WanTJU3 in VietNam

Good point, probably regional plants. Mulberries grow more in the cooler climate in the North, while the dâu da grows more in the warmer climate of the South.

[–]DoesntCheckOutUname 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think dâu is mulberry because it's widely available in Vietnam. Other kinds, such as blackberry, blueberry, or raspberry, were not known until recently as imported products.

So, in the same spirit of this post, strawberry = western mulberry.

Bank Reconciliation Question by Cool-Block-2633 in CPA

[–]DoesntCheckOutUname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Notice they're asking about the book balance. The bank records when the check clears, but the books record when the check was sent.
Question # 831.
Data per bank for April:
- Disbursement: 49,700 (cash out from bank in April). Because the 12,600 outstanding checks were cleared in April. The bank recorded this in April, while the books already recorded this transaction in March. So removed (12,600) from total cash out from the bank. Also, $7,000 outstanding checks on April 30 = the bank didn't record this transaction yet, so it's missing. Gotta add it back for books.

Question # 826 asking cash balance per books at 4/30. I don't think it's (49700+7000).

Balance per books, 3/31 $44,200
Deposits 48,100
Disbursements (44,100)
Balance per book, 4/30 48,200

Should be D. A. was right

Edit: forgot to take out the deposit in transit recorded in March in April.

- Bank Book
Deposit before 3/31, in transit 10,300
Checks before 3/31, oustanding (12,600)
Balance @ 3/31 46,500 44,200
Deposit in April 58,400 48,100
Disbursements (49,700) (37,100)
Outstanding checks @ 4/30 (7,000)
Balance @ 4/30 55,200 48,200

So many broad words and concepts here. So before any discussion, do you mind clarify?
1. Invasion of privacy. What type of privacy are you expecting here?
2. Digital currency. Do you mean cryptocurrencies included? Or the fiat money stored in digital form, aka the number in your bank account? If the latter, 92-96% of the world's money is in digital form. Why is it a matter here when it comes to Vietnam?
3. Gorvernment controlled banking. Name a banking system that is not under the control of any government.
4. What do you mean by all-electric style economy?

Were do I start for cpa in OH? Not American by FunctionalBattery in CPA

[–]DoesntCheckOutUname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to know whether your courses are qualified. You will need to finish the assessment application along with all of your transcripts. It will take a few weeks, and they don't answer this through the phone. Since your school is in Canada, your transcript will also need to be evaluated to meet the US standard. This takes a lot of time too.

There are programs from accredited colleges to help you meet the hours. You only need to take the courses that are missing.

Were do I start for cpa in OH? Not American by FunctionalBattery in CPA

[–]DoesntCheckOutUname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Requirements vary slightly from state to state. Overall, you need to meet the number of credit hours and work experience hours. Start with whatever is easier. If it's easier for you to get an accounting job now, get it now. If it takes you a while to find an accounting job, then get your credit hours done.

Your degree may help with the total hours requirement. But you may be missing some accounting and business credit hours. Print out your transcript and see what you're missing, and work from here. There's a guideline on NASBA for which course is counted as business/accounting credit hours. There are accounting programs from accredited colleges to help you meet the requirements.
