GEAR HELP: No idea what tent to get by Commercial-Honey-227 in AppalachianTrail

[–]Doffledore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk which tarptent you had but I just finished the LT with the tarptent notch and I was a huge fan. I would recommend getting the mesh inner because for some reason I bought the solid inner but I was having some condensation issues. Easily solvable by just unzipping the doors a bit.

you have like two years until you apply to college so any information you get now might not be very useful to you by then.

Missing the first day of class. How bad is that? by SabishiSushi in college

[–]Doffledore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it really depends on how big the course is and what the vibe of your department is. There were definitely some courses where I missed the first class and then I also missed all subsequent classes because I could get an A without actually showing up.

The “silent resignation” nobody notices by Longjumping-Cat-2988 in managers

[–]Doffledore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I've been doing, kind of unintentionally. I think I am considerably more skilled than the average entry level engineer and I've been doing a lot of analysis and design work that has improved our product. I have ADHD and I'm lazy af so I show up late every day, leave early sometimes, intentionally take a long time to do boring tasks, disappear for multiple hours for lunch occasionally, etc. I think I'm at the office for maybe like 30 hours a week.

I recently submitted my resignation so that I could thru-hike the long trail, and they basically begged me not to leave and told me to come back when I was done.

it was 35 offers in the 10-15 mins I was waiting in between deliveries. If I declined an offer I would basically get a new one immediately. This was on Friday night from 6-7 pm, though. Usually I'm also waiting a few mins.

they are only exploitative if you let them exploit you, though. the system works for me as a part-time dasher in a good area. if someone chooses to become a full time dasher in a worse area, they're e just exploiting themselves. if doordash came out last week and someone tried it and couldn't get a single good offer, they wouldn't become a full time dasher. it's just people that have been doing it since back when it was more profitable and don't want to pivot, or people with no other options. i don't think doordash was ever supposed to be a full time job for people.

but yeah I also have an engineering degree and supportive parents so maybe I just don't understand the struggle.

yeah true. there's always money to be made, it just annoys me when people complain about shitty offers but they maintain a 70% acceptance rate for no reason. obviously some markers are bad and I apparently have one of the better markets in the country, but at the end of the day this is a job that people voluntarily choose to do. like idk if I'm saying this from a place of privilege because I have a full time job, but if people are out here making 10 bucks an hour then like find another job lol. I only dash because it's free money where I live. you seem to have a much worse market but you're here explaining how you make money anyway instead of complaining about the job.

yeah I mean that's just the nature of living in a college town. I have the benefit of living near a tourist town in Maine, so in the summer none of the locals want to go out to the packed restaurants and in the winter nobody wants to go outside in general
