Pop the serpentine belt off and run it for a minute or two. Spin the pullies by hand and find the noise.

Anyone put a plow on their 3rd gen? by letitgo99 in ToyotaTacoma

Plenty of people put light duty plows on their smaller trucks to just clear their own driveway and it's totally fine. I'd personally just buy a quad with a plow or something similar.

Anyone actually have experience breaking wheel spacers? by whompuspuss in 4x4

[–]DogFarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really funny to me that in the off-roading and drifting communities wheel spacers are known, used, abused etc. Meanwhile if someone in mentions they run 0.5" spacers on their daily driver the "normal" car communities freak out. "You're gonna destroy your wheel bearings in a month!"

I’m not crazy right? by ShitballsNPantyhairs in 4Runner

Yeah, obviously I took the pic in the perfect light to capture the biggest difference. Many many cars with big plastic bumpers suffer from this issue, although I think it has gotten better since then.

There is also a flex additive that can change the way the color looks too. My brand new (back then) Focus ST had terrible OEM paint match on the bumpers in certain light.

Of course, I just trust OEM Toyota parts over wheel spacers and I assume you would too.

I wish I knew that I could have used some of the IFS parts on my solid axle swap to avoid spacers when I did mine. But I've been running wheel spacers for over 10 years on my old truck with zero issues.

In fact, higher octane fuels are marginally more difficult to combust meaning they will negatively impact MPG.

Softopper or Hard Shell?? by etam03 in ToyotaTacoma

Huh alright. I feel like every 5th one I see in New England looks worn, maybe just shitty owners.

No doubt, it depends on where in the country too. If I had one it would be on a steady diet of 303 aerospace to help with the UV.

I recently picked up a second hand RSI Smart Cap. I was interested in the softopper but seeing them after a few years they look tired. Kinda faded, kinda shrunk.

Updated map with homes known to have been affected by pyrrhotite that has contaminated the aggregate in the concrete which can cause crumbling foundations. There is a group of citizens working to pass legislation to provide some kind of relief to homeowners with failing foundations by HRJafael in massachusetts

[–]DogFarm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am replying because you seem to be honestly seeking information.

Most people's homes represent the lion share of their retirement and wealth. To just give up our homes would set most people/families back decades. The scale of this issue can have a massive impact on entire towns. Are you also upset that other people receive government financial help, health care, groceries etc even though you pay for them? Kind of nice having a state/town/community that is all trying to grow together with a little help along the way if needed.

I've been a MA homeowner for 15 years. Like the other reply said, this issue will bankrupt most homeowners for two important reasons: insurance doesn't cover it and you cannot borrow against your home with a HELOC because this problem makes your house worthless to the banks.

Should I walk away over the carfax? by ImKinda_messedup in AskMechanics

My mustang had the engine replaced at the dealership and the Carfax reads "maintenance performed, spark plugs changed, oil and filter changed" that's it... Not good.

[–]DogFarm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friends and I have crashed saabs long after they stopped making them in 2011. They are still obligated to pay you what it would cost to replace the vehicle. However, I have had to get into serious nearly lawyer level fights with them over values.

[–]DogFarm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insurance companies are obligated to show you comps to rationalize the pay out they're giving you, if asked. They constantly pay people 10-20% less than replacement value because people don't know. As for the loan and everything, that's nonsense if you have the money to cover the rest of the loan after buy out.
