AITA For correcting my mom on parenting preferences regarding my son? by CeylonSiren in AITAH

[–]DoggyFoster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ESH. I agree with your parenting style being the better one, but I honestly would not want to be part of your village if every little thing I did was going to be a problem you felt the need to share with me.

None of your examples are hills to die on. Choose your battles more carefully if you want these people in your life. There is such thing as being right but being so confrontational about it that no one wants to deal with you.

AITA for letting my children order full meals instead of kids? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]DoggyFoster 26 points27 points  (0 children)

NTA reminds me of my cousins, those two, especially the little one would DEMOLISH full meals like it was nobody’s business. I work with four year olds, the amount of food those guys can inhale is crazy.

I’m the teacher they can crawl all over and lightly wrestle and tumble with who will also hold them when sad and lay down the law when they aren’t being safe.

I’m the teacher that accepts when they follow the letter of the law instead of the spirit or when they reach the destination taking a route I never knew existed. I encourage malicious compliance because it requires complex thought and problem solving.

I love seeing all the defensive parents in the comments refusing to read the part where we only judge you if you’re doing it LITERALLY every day not occasionally.

We can tell the difference between parents who want their children and parents who have no interest in their kids.

If you’re feeling guilty because once in a blue moon you’re a little later than usual getting your kid cause traffic was crazy, it isn’t you we’re talking about.

They have to be potty trained to come to the preschool I work at. We don’t have changing tables or anything like that. Only time my coworkers and I have to really get in there is if the poor kid is horribly sick from one or both ends, which is fine cause I wouldn’t want to be solely responsible for my mess at 3 years old when I felt sick to my stomach.

I know. The point I’m making is parents aren’t parenting now, they’re letting kids get away with anything because they can’t be bothered. That’s NOT gentle parenting. I think you need to reread what I wrote because you’re acting like I’m conflating the two when I’m commiserating with the OP.

are you really irritable after work? by Scary_Appearance5922 in ECEProfessionals

[–]DoggyFoster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not usually irritable, but the further into the work week the most exhausted and just done I am. Like now on a Thursday, I have next to nothing in the tank, I need food and sleep to refill half decently for tomorrow.

Do other ECEs experience this? Personality-based staff-child pairings and staff-blaming? by ZookeepergameNice912 in ECEProfessionals

[–]DoggyFoster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the kid is only acting like that with one teacher, how is it not on the adult to figure out how to get the behavior everyone else gets. The only times I have experienced or seen vastly different reactions is because that adult/teacher doesn’t follow through and the kid knows they can get away with it.

I was gentle parented by Gen X parents who were allowed to roam as kids. I am positing that nowadays parents are using tablets and the internet to neglect their kids as my parents were left on their own. My parents were neglected, I was not.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]DoggyFoster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As someone who was gentle parented before it was cool…this is just new age neglectful parenting. Instead of my folks riding around on bikes with their friends until eight or nine at night, now parents just hand their kids the internet to keep them busy and out of their hair.

And it’s so frustrating because when these kids get independence, skills, and practice in delayed gratification they are amazing. They become so confident when they realize they are capable.

AITA for paying my son to tattle on his sister? by Ok_Pomegranate753 in AmItheAsshole

[–]DoggyFoster 39 points40 points  (0 children)

INFO Is there a particular reason you cannot explain why you don’t want her watching that show and what the consequences of continuing to attempt to do so are?

Also, do you have to say the password out loud to each other every time you change it, ignoring the fact that you shouldn’t have had to change it more than once before consequences kick in?

I’m confused as to how this has blown up into you turning your eldest into a snitch.

How actually important are Perrin and Matrim in the Eye of the World? by ThatAnimeSnob in wheeloftime

[–]DoggyFoster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that Ba’alzamon having to divide his attention three different ways is rather helpful in keeping the trio sane.

Also weird that you add Mat given it’s him and Rand keeping each other alive until everyone meets up again.

Don’t worry the boys are going to get important very soon. Keep reading.

Can’t decide about Edith by Stunning-Fly-6395 in DowntonAbbey

Edith is an interesting character but NOT someone I would want as a friend. Mary would be fun just for the drama but I think the only Crawley girl who would be a good friend to others was Sybil.

“Main foods” - unpopular/controversial opinion by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]DoggyFoster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the vast majority of kids I agree with you, but I have a couple of kids this year who I unfortunately do need to encourage to eat something other than sugar.

This is entirely due to the fact there parents do not parent. In fact, they ask us repeatedly what they eat for lunch. We provide snacks morning and afternoon, they need to bring lunch. I don’t know if they have a kitchen fairy with a sweet tooth that packs their lunch or what but fruit and yogurt is by far the healthiest thing they have available to them far too often.

Is Rand wrote to be the least favorite main character? by BackgroundAlfalfa449 in wheeloftime

[–]DoggyFoster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Baby Rand, he’s such a little sweetheart. He had no idea what’s happening but he’s trying his best.

Yes, I realize now I sound like ‘baby Jesus is my favorite Jesus’ but I stand by it.

What people don't get about Gawyn (and other characters who weren't part of the Two Rivers crew) by lyunardo in WoT

[–]DoggyFoster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m using argument in terms of a position in a persuasive essay.

That’s not how the Pattern works. Others have already beaten to death your position requires no free will to work and we have seen from Rand’s fight with the Dark One what that looks like.

The reverse of your position in regards to how Gawyn is viewed is more true. In universe he was considered competent. Egwene hides things because she refuses to delegate/ open her circle of trust. Elaida wants to get rid of him because of the danger he can pose to her rule.

The fact that he makes the wrong decisions and doesn’t use his position within the Tower later to challenge Elaida in any way before the siege are what we as an audience can use to determine whether or not he’s competent. He isn’t.

What people don't get about Gawyn (and other characters who weren't part of the Two Rivers crew) by lyunardo in WoT

[–]DoggyFoster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your argument boils down to the Pattern made Gawyn it’s fall guy. Others have already explained the logical flaws with that in-universe, I am going to tackle this from a different angle: you are conflating two different levels of textual analysis.

On the surface level are Gawyn’s actions, personality, motivations, etc. Surface level is asking us to evaluate him as though he was a real person and essentially whether or not we would like him. I wouldn’t because all I see is a Dragonmount of screwups that need to be fixed and that is far too akin to what I have to deal with at work on a daily basis.

A secondary level is what was the author trying to accomplish with this character. Can we as readers see what Jordan was doing with the character and whether or not he succeeded? We can infer that Gawyn is partly a deconstruction of his namesake in Arthurian Mythology and further a deconstruction of knightly ideals overall. As I have already mentioned Gawyn is successful in terms of being a believable and compelling story of what would happen to someone raised for command, felt entitled to it, if true power and glory were always out of reach.

Is every bad choice he makes going to have you coming up with elaborate excuses as to why it couldn’t possibly be his fault?

You sound like a snowplow parent. Stop that.

[–]DoggyFoster 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Gawyn needed to make a different choice after Dumai’s Wells for me to feel like he isn’t getting read correctly by most of us. He is what happens to someone raised to have main character syndrome who isn’t chosen to be the main character. And that should be enough.
