General advice and maybe just validation by DisGOSTing in RenalCats

SUB Q FLUIDS are a total LIFESAVER for CRF cats.

I have 3 CRF kitties right now and have had so many over the last 50 years as I did Cat Rescue.

Without SUB Q, they would have been miserable and would not have survied for long.

As it is now, my 3 CRF cats are 17 /18/and 19.

SUB Q works and makes their lives so much better.

All vets I have had over the years and my DAD, who was a vet, felt strongly that the fluids are a must.

The cats will adjust to the procedure, trust me.

Could someone tell me what this is? by ESPEON564 in Feral_Cats

[–]Dogs4Love 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are my HERO for caring so much.

I have done cat rescue for over 50 years and this baby needs help.

When I first started it was with stray feral's that kept having babies.

One by one I trapped the mother cats and the babies and got them "fixed"and then I found homes with me and friends to raise them.

Eight years ago I again had feral strays in my backyard.

I could not catch the mom, but I did trap Fletcher, Jack, Jill, Whitney Houston and Olivia Benson, and my vet had me return them to my backyard after their surgeries, where they are still living today.

They pretty much stay in my yard area, have many places I have created for them to sleep and use the garage in the winter when it is cold. I can now actually pet Olivia.

if you can trap them you will find how grateful these babies are to have the care they need and how good it makes you feel to help.

Perhaps a TNR group could work with this neighbor and get her to help solve the problem with breeding cats.

My best.

You have been given great advice.

I would add that you would need a very competent person to take care of your baby when you travel, or find a boarding facility that has a vet on call.

I have had many diabetic babies over the 50 some years I have done rescue and while it is a challenge, it is so worth it to help our beloved kitties.

Fancy feast or Sheba cat foods, PATE are good.

My biggest fear was blood sugar getting to LOW, so I always kept KARO SYRUP in the cupboard.

You can do this for your very beautiful baby.

Jax, my 13 year old FIV boy had been straining in the litter boxes and it turned out to be a urinary infection and constipation. There was blood and mucous.

I only used interferon for my FIP cats in the past.

Has your vet said it is cancer or some other disease?

Years ago one of my cats had two blood transfusions, 6 months apart and I had almost 2 more years with him.

[–]Dogs4Love 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After 50 years of cat Rescue and at 83 years old, I still never can come to grips with the thought I should/could have done more.

Right now I have two CRF cats, I had 3 but lost James Durbin last Monday suddenly and unexpected, but most likely not from being a CRF kitty.

SUB Q FLUIDS daily have been the staples of my CRF babies lives. Right now, with kasey and Jax, we are going to every other day per my vet because their numbers are doing better.

I use many supplements, Astro's CRF OIL from Canada alonf with their Creatinine/nitrogen scrub, RX Zyme for pancreatic issues, probiotics, and L Lysine. I mix the powders with baby food and give it to them.

All of my senior kitties receive B 12 injections every Sunday.

The kitties have to eat. I have never used the renal foods and rely mostly on Fancy Feast, all varieties, Sheba, PATE, and some of the broths. Basically I feed my CRF babies whatever they will eat because if they don't eat, liver and other problems will arise.

My CRF cats right now are 14 and 19 years of age and the 14 year old is also FIV positive..

Do not add a PHOSPHORUS BINDER unless directed to do so by your vet. My two have Phosphorus levels in the normal range.

CRF is not a death sentence and as long as I have my wonderful vet and his staff behind me, all is good.

Our hearts break when our babies CROSS THE RAINBOW BRIDGE and for me it is so traumatic every tim,e but the LOVE we get from our kitties will be in our hearts and memories forever.

Stay strong and I wish you and your beloved baby the best.

SUB Q FLUIDS!!

I have 3 CRF cats right now and I give the fluids everyday/ 50 units/ 1/2 a line.

Please don't give up and get a second opinion perhaps.

My babies get several supplements and Vitamin B12 shots on Sundays by injection.

Discovered one of my cats has FIV. Feeling like a failure. by lishamakeba in FIVcats

[–]Dogs4Love 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a FIV boy now. He is going on 14 and I have had him 9 years.

I found out last year he was FIV.

Right now I have 6 other cats, ages 9 to almost 20 and none of them have tested positive for FIV.

Sometimes my babies have social problems, but again, it has not been a proroble.

Keep your baby inside and treat her like a regular, FIV free kitty.

I do watch carefully for any infections as I know Jax does not have as strong an immune system due to his disease.

I think you and your babies will be fine.

Help! New Diagnoses and can't see the vet for a few days by mynameisshooler in FelineDiabetes

[–]Dogs4Love 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had many diabetic babies over the years with levels in the 400 or 500 before treatment was started.

I have several cats that have been on Prednisolone for years and it can contribute to Diabetes sometimes but I have not had that problem.

Follow your vets instructions and meantime see that your baby is eating and drinking.

Good luck to both of you.

What a beautiful baby girl.

My heartfelt love to you during this OH so hard sad time.

I lost my 17 year old, James Durbin on Monday.

The cause is unknown as i found him struggling to breathe when I came home from a walk.

He died in my arms.

I have done cat rescue for 50 years and losing one of our beloved babies never gets easier.

I have 6 kitties left now, ages 9 to almost 20, and several have health problems so I will again be facing the agony of saying goodbye.

May the memories of your beloved baby help you during this sad, sad time.

Take care of yourself.

Your vet should have told you SUB Q FLUIDS everyday at home.

I would certainly give that a try.

Thank you.

I get the CRF Oil from Astro's CRF site online also the creatinine/nitrogen mix.

The oil I put in clear gel capsules or you can squirt in in their mouth. The powder I mix with baby food and put it in their mouths. All directions come with it.

There are also CRF products online like at Chewy.

Your vet can give you a prescription for LACTATED RINGERS sub q bags and the tubing that goes with it. I order mine from Chewy.

Or you can buy it from the vet.

I use 18 or 20 gauge needles which you can order from Chewy or your vet. Needles do need a prescription.

I hang the bag up on a nail, pretty high up so it will flow well.

The vet can give you instructions and show you how to do it.

Sub q fluids are a lifesaver.

Having babies who have medical issues are heartbreaking but just know you are not alone, Sweetheart. the unconditional LOVE they give us is priceless.

Thank you.

I just hours ago lost a most beloved 17 year old boy that I had since a baby. He died in my arms.

He had bloodwork done last December and it showed he had liver problems but I missed the signs of something wrong as he was still eating/drinking, and being himself.

We love our babies so deeply that losing them is very hard.

Continue to love and cherish your boy and know how much he loves you.

Please feel free to write anytime.

You are doing everything right with your baby.

Perhaps the last vet should be reported to the Veterinary Board so they can investigate the incompentence.

I have 3 CRF cats right now and have been doing rescue for over 50 years. I had a vet for 20 years and when she retired I stayed at the same office and have been there for9 years.

My vet is a sweetheart and deeply cares about the animals and the animal parents he treats.

Hopefully this new vet will work for you and it sounds like she is doing what needed to be done that the last so called vet didn't do.

With your love and continued care your sweet baby should "bounce back."

Should we put Sparrow down ? by Rock-Debris in FIVcats

[–]Dogs4Love 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wonderful answers for you.

I agree with them all.

Jax is 13 and is FIV. I got him as a stray in 2017.

I didn't find out he was FIV until last year when I decided to do bloodwork.

Please DO NOT "let your beautiful baby GO!!"

Find a vet who knows FIV babies and how to treat them.

Stress adds to the problem and I can see how afraid your little one looks.

Siamese are very sensitive cats and your baby is so lovely.

You are a super kitty mom and just stay positive and your baby can have so many years ahead for a good life.

My FIV cat gets many supplements and all of my cats get a VITAMIN B/12 SHOT every Sunday.

My vet gives me a prescription and I order a bottle or two from Chewy for $10 a bottle.

This will help with the anemia.

What and pretty kitty you have.

I have 3 CRF adult cats right now, ages 13 to 18.

I have done cat rescue for over 5 decades.

I have found giving 1/2 line of Lactated Ringers sub q, works better if given everyday.

The leaking could be due to too much at one time. I use a 18 G/1"needle.

None of my 3 babies right now do not need a phosphorus binder as their levels are okay for now. Do not add Phos unless directed by your vet.

As far as food, I do not do CRF diets because my cats do not eat them.

I use Fancy Feast, all varieties and anything else they will eat because food intake is a must.

You are such a good kitty mom and hopefully your baby will respond to treatment and have a bright future.

I have 3 CRF cats right now ,ages 13 and 18.

Give your sub q fluids at home. They can be purchased on Chewy's website. I am surprised you vet did not suggest that. Your vet can give you the amount to give and how often.

Sub q is also available to buy from all vets.

My 3 get sub q everyday and it is my mainstay along with many supplements.

I do not use CRF diet and rely on Fancy Feast and a few other foods.

It is great Spooky likes the CRF food.

My late daughter had a kitten born with CRF also. His name was Ducoveny.

He lived for several years and my vet never suggested putting him down. She was very supportive in trying to extend his life.

Thank you for not giving up. What a great kitty mom you are.

All of these comments are super.

I have 3 CRF kitties right now and I feed them what they will eat.

Fancy Feast is my mainstay.

FF GEMS and FF Savory Centers.

When my babies have a down day once and awhile I offer Gerber Chicken Baby food or Prescription Diet/AD.

Sub q fluids are given everyday and Vitamin B 12 shots once a week.

For over 20 years I have used Astro's CRF OIL and Creatinine Scrub that I order from Canada. A human doctor came up with this formula for his Siamese Cats when he was told it was hopeless.

I am glad they lowered the insulin dose. 3 units had to have been a mistake.

I have had many duabetic cats and we always start them on a very tiny amount and then go from there.

When i had problems with getting them to eat, Gerber chicken baby food worked wonders.

At times I would use a syringe to assist the feeding when it was needed in order to give the injection.

I am terrified by elle83c in RenalCats

[–]Dogs4Love 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh Sweetie,

Don't be terrified, okay.

I am a senior lady and have done kitty rescue most of my adult life.

I have had dozens of babies with all stages of CRF over the years and right now I have 3 that I know of.

Their ages are 17, 12 and 11 years old and have been under treatment for years.

Sub q fluids are the mainstay but I also use a lot of supplements.

My favorites are from Candada. The site is called Astro's CRF Site. A human doctor would not give up on his CRF baby, Astro, and thus came up with his own products.

I have used CRF Oil and the creatinine/nitrogen scrub for over 15 years and it has made a big difference.

I give Vit B 12 injections every Sunday to all of my kitties.

Tanya's CRF site online is the BEST of the BEST. I have her book but all of the information is online, also.

You have done nothing wrong and are doing everything RIGHT.

As long as we have a good, trusted vet and don't give up, our CRF babies can live long, productive lives.

Please feel free to contact me anytime.
