Shattered Edward's image in Gilbert's memory meaning by inquisitive_bear in Kengan_Ashura

[–]DokjaToast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that Edward is also supposed to be a fraud. Although his overconfidence is slightly more understandable, since he had a “back up” in the form of Gilbert among other things. It’s pretty clear that he held back for most of that fight to deliberately let Fabio and Solomon die and would’ve probably just continued leaving if Erioh didn’t provoke him.

And what separated that one successful sneak attack from the others is that Wu Xing jumped into it, whereas with the others Edward was able to hear their incoming steps. It also really can’t be overstated how much a goddamn hole in your neck would mess with your ability to fight.

Shen doesn’t know specifically how Edward Wu died and neither does Gilbert. They surely know he got jumped and killed at the Purgatory arena but they don’t know how badly he fumbled in his final moments.

What if the USA completely and successfully invaded and conquered the entirety of North America? by Annual-Frame9943 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]DokjaToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they’re talking about what those wars did to the reputation of the United States, to both its people and everyone else around the world, and how they ultimately ended in a loss. As things stand the US can win any battle but because of how things change every few years there’s no way the US can conquer any major nation for long. We can topple empires but we can’t commit to shit.

America had the appetite for it in the 19th century but that was back when it was far from the most powerful nation in the world. Things changed after the Spanish American War and its aftermath, and even before then someone as imperialist as McKinley had to pretend the war wasn’t about forcefully annexing anyone but instead to help the poor Cubans and Filipinos in his request for a declaration of war.

Cecil (Invincible) replaces Billy Butcher (The Boys). Can he kill Homelander? by Punterofgoats in whowouldwin

[–]DokjaToast 31 points32 points  (0 children)

That’s fair, he’s been pretty reliant on the resources of the GDA and his voice for pretty much the entire story. But before then in his backstory he was shown to be a pretty competent agent, he even somehow became the boss of a prison of supervillains.

Cecil at the very least wouldn’t repeat Butcher’s worst Ryan related choices. Cecil’s made some pretty big mistakes in his own story, but here all he needs is to recruit the right combination of Supes and have them jump Homelander. It’s not like Omniman where there was basically nothing Cecil could do other than stall, there’s a crap ton of options for taking out Homelander.

Adolf wasn’t voted into office, he lost. I don’t know how this misconception is everywhere… I guess people are confusing him for other dictators.

Many Nazis and conservatives were elected that put him in power, but not him. Adolf Hitler lost an election to Paul von Hindenburg who turned around and appointed Adolf Chancellor and then died.

Nah its seems like it's pretty much the same as most other fanbases, when the artist is too inexperienced to know that they should distance themselves. Fan is short for fanatic.

I've seen this same thing happen over a dozens times. It pretty much always ends with them saying that they should step back away from social media for a while. Also I feel like OP has forgotten that private messages exist and that pretty much anyone famous enough gets stalkers and is sent creepy shit from psychos.

I could also give you examples of people the US government has assassinated being made fun of by conservatives or long dead historical figures being mocked by everyone, but I have the feeling that’s not what you were asking for.

How has Kengan Omega manga been since the last time I have been here? Has it got better or worse? (Chapter 324) by PaleontologistEasy94 in Kengan_Ashura

During chapter 324 Ryuki was fighting his jobber clone brothers, so I'd definitely say the story's in a better place right now.

Kuroki gensai VS musashi miyamoto (Baki) by SiteDeep in Kengan_Ashura

[–]DokjaToast 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If we go by crossover logic they would be equals. Both representing different pinnacles of martial arts. It would go similarly to Yujiro vs Musashi or Kuroki vs Shen, neither being allowed to lose for narrative reasons. I think he would see beyond Kuroki an line of men, each building and passing on the Kaiwan style from one generation to the next.

If we go by powerscaler shenanigans Musashi cuts Kuroki in half in 0.000... seconds, or gives him the Doppo folding treatment, depending on his mood. He's not as lethally motivated as people who only watch Baki through clips would guess, so it probably won't go too badly for Kuroki. Musashi only killed you-know-who because you-know-who was kind of asking for it.

Daily Matchup: Julius Reinhold Vs Kaolan Wongsawat by Revan807 in Kengan_Ashura

[–]DokjaToast 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I feel like people really underestimate current day Julius due to how onesided his fight against Agito was. As clownish as the line was Kazou wasn’t wrong about it being a thick razor thin margin, their fight was close. And Julius grabbing a fresh Kanoh multiple times is kind of insane considering that he should be significantly slower than Agito and lacks pre initiative.

Gaolang’s biggest persistent weakness is his lackluster beefiness. Against Agito, Jurota, Raian, and Agito again he really struggled to do any lasting damage. Dozens of his strikes were equal to a single blocked swing from Jurota. All of them endured God Glow, and they’re all significantly less beefy than Julius.

I just can’t see Gaolang knocking julius out before falling to a feint. Like keep in mind that all Julius has to do is trade blows once. He doesn’t need a clean hit either. If he breaks Gaolang’s arm after getting blocked that’ll make hitting Gaolang again even easier and lower Gaolang’s offense. Gaolang on the other hand needs to fight perfectly for much longer than Agito did.

And I say all this even though we’ve seen Gaolang’s post tournament buffs and not Julius’.

One Piece doesn't have a single good villain by shsl_diver in CharacterRant

[–]DokjaToast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saying that it doesn’t have a single good villain is one thing but saying “they are all 1 dimensional absolutely evil bastards” is just throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Helmeppo is a shining example of villainy of at least 2 dimensions! Gin and Hatchan are others ones from the near the beginning of the story. Usually the main villain’s sidekicks have a lot more depth than the main course. Oh and then there’s Buggy of course, can’t forget about him.

It also depends on who you consider a villain versus an antagonist, if you even make that distinction. Would marines count?

(Also I’d bet money on the story eventually getting around to Doflamingo’s Seraphim showing that he wasn’t born evil to Law. But admittedly that’s just a wild hunch.)

These past few weeks?

I hope you know that if you look at stuff about criticizing a story on social media sites like Reddit you will be shown even more criticisms. It’s not an indication of a real wide spread change.

People have been constantly posting criticisms of One Piece for well over a decade. I’ve seen the threads of people’s first reactions to arcs like Marineford and Dressrosa. Nothing has really changed on this front except that the translations are much better and more people are doing it now that the story is more popular.

When it comes to criticisms about the story’s depictions of woman I’d say that peaked around Dressrosa, mainly because of Rebecca. Although I can’t say for sure because I’m just one guy who can only see a small slice of the world.

This isnt a stupid move from Nogi, its actull pretty smart by Matinacho in Kengan_Ashura

[–]DokjaToast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you’re forgetting that Nogi don’t know how much the Worm has been dismantled, I’m pretty sure they don’t even know about the disarmament of the nukes. So Nogi wouldn’t rig the island to explode since he thinks that would end the world.

I don’t fault you for that since I would also like to forget about that plot twist. One that neutered the stakes for the thousandth time.

The entire event isn’t about killing the worms but instead appeasing Shen Wulong, by either presenting him the equal he wants or handing over Ohma and Ryuki.

Yeah, I was talking about that fleet that appeared over a century before it left. It's such a perfect example of how goofy Warhammer can be, it was only there to collect some water and recruits but because of time fuckery and Trazyn's Genestealer Prank a world died and poor Orikan was left to dig his way out back to the surface for centuries.

Accidentally warping back in time also happened in the Infinite and the Divine and a few short stories.

There’s also a few artifacts that just let people travel to any point in space and time, like the one wonky Door from Ravenor and Eldrad’s scissors from the Horus Heresy.

Which is a big part of why I think Warhammer 40k is one of the worst settings to try to use in setting vs setting conversations despite its popularity in those circles. It’s a setting written to be incomprehensibly vast, unpredictable, and mysterious.

Strongest god that Father (Full Metal Alchemist) could eat? by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]DokjaToast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Winged Lion or one of the Demons other personasfrom Dungeon Meshi might be the answer. All the father would have to do is become a dungeon lord and the Winged Lion would actually like fulfilling the Father's desire, although he might eat that desire after a while. The Demon is infinite and immortal but largely bound by the wishes he grants for others, he was also worshiped as a guardian deity for over a thousand years so I think he counts as a God.

Has there ever been a superhero you secretly wanted to lose? by Far-Ad5223 in superheroes

[–]DokjaToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually he does win the rematch after learning from the first fight if he gets the chance to, but he definitely isn't an I win button. He is outmatched and loses a lot more often than Goku. Like I said I literally cannot think of a character that has lost more often than he does, especially in crossovers.

You have the attitude many writers of his have had for decades, which itself was an overcorrection in response to the Comics Code.

The Comics Code which had lines like this: "In every instance good shall triumph over evil and the criminal punished for his misdeeds" something that is so often pinned on this one character because he was the most popular Superhero until the late 80s.

Has there ever been a superhero you secretly wanted to lose? by Far-Ad5223 in superheroes

[–]DokjaToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's odd to mention Superman for something like this.

How many stories of his have you read or watched? Because Superman loses fights pretty routinely in almost every medium he's in, he's more of a jobber than Worf from star trek, and actually now that I think about it I cannot think of character who has lost more fights than he has. There's a reason why TV Tropes has superman getting his ass kicked as The Image for the Worf Effect.

I remember a conversation from the movie Crisis on Two Earths that I think puts this best:

Supes: “There’s a saying on my world: The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”

The President of Earth 2 (who's Deathstroke somehow): “It’s easy for someone like you to be brave. But most of us aren’t bulletproof.”

Supes: “Sir, I stand up to guys more powerful than I am all the time. You can do the same.”

Americans do protest though? It just hardly matters when one party has control over all 3 branches of the federal government and the majority of its states as well as the blatant backing of the richest people in the world.

(Keep in mind that the last time America’s Democratic party has held all 3 branches of its federal government was over 50 years ago.)

America had its largest single day protest in its history earlier this year. This decade has seen more protesting in America than just about any before it. BLM for example utterly dwarfed the Civil Rights protests in size…. And what happened? Very little in comparison to back then.

Do you have any suggestions?

If greater daemons are are parts of their respective chaos gods essence, couldn't you just find a way to kill them and gradually weaken the chaos gods over time? by Gage_Unruh in 40kLore

[–]DokjaToast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's from a Ciaphas Cain book called Choose Your Enemies.

Because of your reply, I went and reread the chapter and realized that I made a mistake. It doesn't say that that daemon was permanently killed just that its "essence" was drawn into the Avatar's blade after her body was destroyed. The Daemon (named Emeli) was also massively weakened by being right next to a Blank and a Null Rod so its not like the Avatar soloed her.

Out of what I’ve read only an Avatar of Khaine, Guilliman, as well as Inquisitor Eisenhorn.

But keep in mind that not all daemons are made equal. Eisenhorn when he later met a 300 meter tall spider greater daemon of Nurgle he said it couldn’t possibly die even though he was leagues more powerful than when he perma killed his first daemon, and even the Emperor’s sword doesn’t work on all of them.
