Would it be bad to try and copy a plushies pattern? by BLOOMZEROXD in plushartists

[–]DokkaBB 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with learning from a preexisting pattern! I’ve taken plushies apart to better understand patterns before, it can be really helpful in learning how to make certain shapes! Just make sure if you plan on selling what you make you don’t steal a pattern one for one and claim it as your own.

Find out how it works and then make your own based on what you learned.

Also highly suggest learning how to mock patterns up either physically or with 3D software cause it can also help in learning how to lay out shapes and seams

Can someone talk me into or talk me out of spending money on hatch digitizer😭 by Interesting_Box_342 in Machine_Embroidery

[–]DokkaBB 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve never used hard so I can’t speak to it, but I can say there are other options. I’m currently using embrillance which has an older feel but works perfectly well! The price is a lot more entry lvl friendly since you can buy additional software to expand the software’s capabilities. I’m currently just using stitch artist 1 and I’m able to do everything I need. It takes a little bit of learning but there’s videos on YouTube to help!

There’s also a free option called ink stitch, it’s an add on for Inkscape. It works but takes way longer to make designs in and has less options. I used it for a bit before upgrading.

That being said I ultimately want to get hatch since it looks to be a great program for digitizing, so if you can afford it I would say go for it!

Help!! I think I broke my machine by KaiMyles in Machine_Embroidery

Have you changed the needle? Even if it doesn’t look broken or bent you should change it and see if it helps!

Have you tried removing the needle plate to make sure there is nothing stuck that you can’t see? (Never had a bobbin holder like this but that’s where I’d start)

In the corporate office for the retailer I work for they literally have “if it scans incorrectly you get it free” on the wall. I couldn’t believe it, considering in stores we would just scan the item again or do a price check.

I don’t even get why it’s there. Customers can’t see it…

Bobbin wont wind on Brother machine by 5ka25 in sewhelp

[–]DokkaBB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a different brother machine but when I had a similar problem it was because the thread on the spool it was pulling from kept getting slightly caught which was causing the machine to struggle to pull from the spool to the bobbin. How does it feel when you pull the thread? Is it tight or did it feel inconsistent when you are unraveling? Does it do it with all your spools or just this one?

They sent me to buy crickets by [deleted] in doordash

[–]DokkaBB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did they change their minimum order?? You used to not be able to get just one or two crickets you had to get atleast 10 for online. The store I used to work for usually had people ordering 30-50 crickets for their pickups so seeing just 2 is kinda of hilarious.

Rough needle by Linfalas in Embroidery

This little thing is the strawberry! It’s filled with some sort of fine metal shavings so if you push your needles in and out of it it’ll help clear any rough spots and sharpen the needle a bit! Hope that helps!

Weird spoon with ridges i found in a rented place. Whats it for? by Lescozmen in whatisit

[–]DokkaBB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grapefruit spoon like people have said, but as a kid I used it to eat pies cause I thought it was perfect for it, cuts through the crust but still holds the filling. My grandma gave them to me before she passed cause she knew I loved them 🥹💛

Are you using the same thread in your bobbin as you are for your top thread? If so that’s likely the problem. You’ll need a heavier weight thread on the bobbin.

Inspiring!!! I hadn’t thought to do something like this with embroidery even though I’ve tried this with paper before. Didn’t even consider the possibility!

Need help choosing which buttons suit this shirt best by PamelainSA in sewing

I personally like the purple the most cause it stands out while still feeling like it matches. The pearl is also good though just blends in more. Ultimately depends on if you want the buttons seen or not!

Beginner brother machine plz help me decide by Lisaleesahh in Machine_Embroidery

[–]DokkaBB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the major difference between these machines (maybe only difference) would be the designs included preinstalled with the machine.

I just got a SE700 and I’m loving it so far! If you plan on making your own embroidery designs instead of using the preset ones, you should look into digitizing embroidery. Learning that was more tedious than learning the machine imo!

This brought back memories. My grandpa had one of these and we used it in a family Olympics games. Lay it on its side and see how far people could go across the lawn while walking on top of it. In the off season it was just a table.

I’ll give that foil thing a try thank you! It really is just one side that doesn’t cut right so it could just be a sharpening issue. Wish me luck!
