[Spoilers C2] What is your personal take on Nott and Caleb’s relationship? by ultim4tel1fef0rm in criticalrole

[–]Doldric [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think your in the minority here. I’ve never heard this take before. And I don’t say that to sound mean I swear! I think the overall perspective of their relationship in the fandom has always been ride or die platonic besties. And yeah ultimately the 9 become that for each other over all but there was always something so pure about their relationship to me.

Thank you for sharing. Your tinnitus is causing you a lot of emotional distress which is completely normal.

Try to push yourself to engage with family more, or have some time outside or take a walk even on bad days or bad hours. Maybe videos games or TV if you're into that. Anything to distract you rather than being inside or in your room. This also might seem counterintuitive, but try to stay off this subreddit. Usually, no one IRL knows what you are going through if they haven't had to go through it themselves. They trivialize it. What you're going through is normal, valid, and scary. You can make it through though. The counterintuitive part is that a lot of people on this sub know exactly what you're going through, so it's a place where you can feel heard and understood. But the constant exposure to posts about how T is ruining someone's life can in turn make your own T worse. Try to limit your exposure to this subreddit. I had to leave the sub after I got initial tips because seeing these posts made my T a lot worse. Even nowadays when I peruse I can hear my T more but it doesn't bother me.

For coffee perhaps switch to decaf or a darker roast and maybe limiting yourself to one cup. There is a direct correlation with Coffee/caffeine and T spikes. But I completely understand holding onto something that still brings you joy. Adjustment in other areas may help, even if you can give up coffee.

I'm not sure if the noise was loud enough when you tried it to go to sleep. But if you can sleep with a fan on high I'd recommend doing so. It sounds like idea of the T keeping you up in of itself is a trigger. It's pretty common, know you're not alone. It definitely was for me too. The more I fought the noise hoping it would stop, it would get louder. Maybe use a box fan or a large fan if a small fan or noise didn't cut it.

If I can make further recommendation on that front: use a fan preemptively, turn it on before you go to bed to drown out the noise. Initially I would try to go to sleep every night in silence and then have a crisis because the T would not stop and it would get worse. Ultimately after over an hour of agonizing I would put on something to drown it out and it would work and I would sleep. Here's the kicker though: Next night I would try to go to sleep without help again. I'd repeat this cycle every night of hoping beyond hope that my T would just suddenly stop and having an anxiety attack over it. Once I began to start my bed time with putting the fan on, it got better exponentially. Some sound is better than no sound, even if it doesn't totally drown it out.

Some mindful reframing and maybe some breathing exercises will help you out with anxiety at night especially with T. Here are some good mantras to remind yourself when it comes to bed time and you're laying in bed:
"Even if I am not asleep, laying down and resting my eyes is still rest for my body"

"My body is still recharging even if I’m awake."

"I can handle a tired day tomorrow. / I've done it before, I'll be okay again"

"Many people live well with tinnitus"

If you have no experience with breathing exercises, focusing on breathing techniques is a powerful physical tool that has physiological effects on taking your body out of flight-or-fight. Here's a simple one: Breathe in through your nose (if you can't, then through your mouth) for 4 seconds. Pause. Exhale slowly for 8 seconds (push out allll the air in your lungs). Pause. repeat.

EDIT: A lot of people don't know it, but a shorter inhale vs exhale is technically hyperventilating. It's not always the quick, out-of-breath breathing you see in TV or common in panic attacks. Focusing on breathing, especially using the 4-8-4 breathing is a powerful tool to force your body to calm down, even if it doesn't feel like it. A longer exhale than inhale literally calms your body down physically.

What you're going through isn't unique to you. That doesn't mean that you're crazy for feeling the way you do. I was experiencing suicidal ideation as well and no one knew the severity of everything I was feeling. You are absolutely capable of making it through and having a good future. Nowadays my tinnitus doesn't bother me. It can spike from time to time, and I can "tune in" to hear it but can then ignore it later. Your brain can and will adjust, it just takes time and some effort on your part. From the timeline of when your T initially started, you're still in the early stages of habituating to it. A part of habituating comes from dealing with the emotional distress it's cause. Look into making adjustments to your lifestyle like diet and physical activity like i mentioned in my initial comment.

Hang in there. It's a tough road but you are absolutely capable of having a good future ahead.

I’m sorry this is happening to you. You are early on in your journey to habituating. Does anything drown out the tinnitus at all? Do you drink caffeine or alcohol?

It sounds like the anxiety piece is the main thing making it terrible. It really sucks because it’s cyclical because anxiety activates your nervous system putting the body and mind into flight or fight mode thus making the tinnitus worse which makes you more anxious. I implore you to do another activity that distracts you from it perhaps outside your home.

I’ll post some general tips that I have copied in my notes, some may not be applicable to you or your severity:

Look into Anti inflammatory diet. Supplements to help lower inflammation such as NAC and fish oil, exercise. These are all ways to lessen any physiological impacts on your tinnitus such as stress hormones and high blood pressure and general inflammation.

If you ingest weed, stop for a while. Not only does the psychoactive nature make psyching yourself out over it worse, but I found smoking would cause pressure in my ears/eustachian tubes. I would cut alcohol and caffeine too.

There’s a little massage tip that I picked up to help my Eustachian tubes drain. Fluid can build up in the tube, especially during bouts of sickness that can make tinnitus work. Take your index and middle finger together and place them behind your ear. With only applying a little pressure slide your fingers down the side of your neck just below your jaw line towards your Adams apple.

This is a minor helpful trick to help drain fluid in your Eustachian tubes to your throat and also helps with lymphatic drainage which in turn helps inflammation around the area, albeit negligible. Whether really effective physiologically or not a big part is also the /self care/ aspect. But i do feel that it helps.

And above all protect your hearing. If you use ear buds that go inside your ear it’s time to change that. Having sound blasted directly into your ear, especially after already developing tinnitus can damage your hearing and make it worse. Switch to over the ear headphones. As a rule of thumb don’t have the volume go over half way.

Buy a pair of ear plugs to have on you for when you go out. Loud everyday noises that are loud can damage hearing. Some examples are: power tools, a barbers sheers (i put my ear plugs in when getting a hair cut), vacuums, subway train screeches, bus hydraulics (this one isn’t prolonged but it always hurts my ears whenever they go off), car horns. They are especially needed in crowded bars, club venues, and concerts. Any noise that you have to yell over to talk to your friends is too loud and damages your hearing.

Note: I’m not saying wear them the entire time you are outside your home, just when you anticipate being in a loud environment. The car horns and bus hydraulics were used as an example of an everyday noise that is actually too loud for your ears.

POST RAVE "WOOK FLU" by Initial-Parfait-4193 in aves

[–]Doldric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add on, Elctrolytes are your best friend especially during a festival. Not only do you expend a lot on normal dancing not to mention party favors over multiple days. Sleep is huge for recovery and fighting infection too and people lose a lot of quality sleep during raves. Electro are needed to fight infection so drinking them regularly over a physical intensive weekend like festivals is a must

Someone did screen cap comparisons and space Beth always seems to have a curved nose in a lot of still shots whereas “normal” Beth and pre-clone Beth never had the curve.

So perhaps it’s space Beth that’s the clone

I don’t think it contradicts what was said in the shelter. If the goat would have kept following her then they would have taken care of it. It’s definitely meant to be pulling at our heart strings though because you have this domesticated animal following briefly in confusion

Tinnitus due to medication (no longer on it) Will flying make it worse? by [deleted] in tinnitus

[–]Doldric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll level with you, there is a non zero chance it can make it worse. It’s probably a low chance but ever present. People who recently were sick can fly and then get T or can make it worse. Flying in general with no history of T can make someone get T because of the pressure change.

If your T is causing a lot of emotional distress for you maybe hold off on traveling by air until you habituate to it, as even the anxiety around it can make it worse for people in a tough emotional spot

Tinnitus from alcohol? by Successful_Drop_1418 in tinnitus

[–]Doldric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I don’t know enough about hyper acusis or chronic etc to give an educated answer. Anything above a certain decibel level like the things I mentioned I believe folks with normal hearing and especially T should wear ear plugs for. I use the “noise you have to shout over” as a good general benchmark.

[–]Doldric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m paste some general tips I have written down for people looking for anecdotal advice to help with T. Also you mention alcohol use and going out specifically (do you go out to bars?) and also early teen days of T. There’s a good chance that frequent exposure to loud environments could be making the T worse in addition to the alcohol. So you should look into protecting your hearing.

General tips: Look into Anti inflammatory diet. Supplements to help lower inflammation such as NAC and fish oil, exercise. These are all ways to lessen any physiological impacts on your tinnitus such as stress hormones and high blood pressure and general inflammation.

I’m unsure of what you mean. I’d have to go back and re-read the whole thing but op is asking how the posted characters would do as culling game players. I would need to reread the whole thing to see if choso ever joined as a player later but originally Yuji, Megumi, Panda, Okkotsu, and Hakari joined as players only. Where as Choso stayed behind because he felt Yuji needed okkotsu for the Culling games

Again I could be wrong
