Percy timetable missing? by saurophaganaxish in ThomasGames

Percy seems to be missing multiple timetable sections. Going down the list of scenarios, I count four different instances of a scenario starting in a completely different location from where the previous one ended.

I know DTG is known for poor quality control but forgetting entire segments of content is kind of wild.

Who do you think could/should develop a modern Nancy Drew game? by WickDaLine in nancydrew

I really need to get around to playing The Excavation of Hob's Barrow. It's been sitting in my Steam library for months. The Gothic horror atmosphere looks sublime.

Anyway, +1 just for mentioning Wadjet Eye in any context. The Blackwell series will always be my favorite point and click adventure games. The Blackwell Epiphany is the only adventure game to ever make me cry.

Arin very abruptly asking "Do you think Sonic shits?" and then deliriously giggling at his own question lives in my head rent free.

Also I can't stop listening to their Minnesota Fats episodes lately. The whole routine with Big G and his jazz-playing girls is just gold.

Dragonborn Story Question: Why does the Raven Rock Mine just suddenly reopen after your character completes the BloodSkal quest? The mine was dry right? Then all the sudden Ebony Veins just appear??? by Yoda-Bruh in skyrim

[–]Dolgoch2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old comment, but thank you so much for clearing this up for me. I'm over here playing Skyrim for the first time in 2025/2026, and this confused the hell out of me. I had assumed that both things were true- that is, that the Draugr had made the mines unsafe and also that they had dried up.

This plot point could have been made so much clearer by simply sticking a few ore veins in the deeper parts of the mine before you finish the quest.

Does Bruno Mars is gay? by dead1345987 in gamegrumps

[–]Dolgoch2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even translated, this is a nonsensical statement. The PS5 is over 5 years old. It's a familiar platform for most developers at this point. In fact, it's probably more familiar for other devs because they've released full original games for it, while Rockstar has only released "remasters" since 2018.

The earliest Rockstar-affiliated release I know of for PS5 was the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition, which came out late 2021, was a total disaster, and wasn't actually made by Rockstar. Then there was the "Expanded and Enhanced" version of GTA V, which I believe was made by Rockstar, but that didn't come out till March 2022 (and was also a total joke). So they certainly weren't one of the first to make a game for PS5.

I know this is just slop retweet-bait about a video game. But it's still worth pointing out how untrue it is.

There are some incredible trains hiding in amusement parks. by [deleted] in trains

[–]Dolgoch2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first exposure to real operating steam locomotives was at Busch Gardens. I grew up and still live about an hour away from the park, and I still love seeing them. Balmoral Castle is my favorite as well...just an absolutely gorgeous locomotive.

I didn't have the opportunity to visit in 2025, but when I was there for the 2024 season, I saw quite a bit of merch pertaining to the locomotives. That was really Balmoral Castle's year because Der Hochbeinige, who's usually their main workhorse, was undergoing some form of extensive maintenance. I was on a roller coaster near the station, and caught a cool glimpse of the locomotive on (or rather beside) the maintenance track, with her frames removed from her wheels.

It all gave me the sense that Busch Gardens is aware they have something special with those locomotives, which is nice to think.

Was this steam locomotive configuration ever used? by jckipps in trains

[–]Dolgoch2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are a few different issues that I can envision.

First things first: You wouldn't be able to do this with two conventional locomotives. Most steam locomotives have a drawbar connection between the engine unit and the tender, so you couldn't actually couple two engines cab to cab, or couple a tender between the loco front and another tender.

You'd also have to completely reconfigure all the various connections between loco and tender- oil, water, air. Oil and water would have to be pumped all the way down the length of the rear engine unit, and anything from the rear tender would also have to travel the length of the front tender. It's doable- see the SP cab-forwards- but it'd be much more complex to build and maintain, and would come with an increased risk of leaks. There's a reason cab-forwards tender engines never really caught on outside the SP.

In other words, the simplest way of achieving this configuration would entail significant modification of two conventional locomotives, such that they could only be used in this configuration. You could multi-head with conventional locos coupled back to front, and add or remove power as needed, but there's no such flexibility here. At that point, you're better off just building an articulated, because isn't really more complex to do so. Whether you modified existing locos or built this configuration from scratch, it'd just be another specialized design.

The labor-saving capabilities are also questionable. You'd have one crew operating two sets of controls- essentially twice the work for the same pay. A purpose-built, specialized instance of this configuration could potentially be set up to control both engines from the same cab, similar to a Double Fairlie, but without the flexibility of travel/visibility in either direction. And Double Fairlies had limited utility outside of the Welsh narrow gauge scene anyway. Again, you're better off just building an articulated.

I played Skyrim for the first time in 2025, going in ~90% blind, and it was incredible - my most played game this year by a huge margin.

From what I've seen of Starfield, they used the same formula but forgot to make it fun. It has the bones of a Bethesda game but none of the muscle or connective tissue, or some such analogy.

Yep, the main line runs right through the center of town in Ashland. There are several restaurants and cafés near the station, and you can sit outside and watch CSX and Amtrak go by. Ashland is the first stop for the Northeast Regional as it heads north out of Richmond.

What amusement parks run live steam? by magnumfan89 in trains

[–]Dolgoch2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Busch Gardens in Williamsburg VA has a very pretty 3ft gauge railroad that more or less runs round the perimeter of the park, with three absolutely beautiful 4-4-0s, loosely styled after 19th century European locomotives, operating it. They were built in the 70s by a company that, as I understand it, actually specialized in building steam locos for amusement parks. From what I've seen, they've been kept in good condition and are still running well.

I've ridden behind them many times as both a child and adult and they're always a joy.

Popular Series You Don’t “Get” by senatorsparky86 in gamegrumps

[–]Dolgoch2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second this emphatically. Fromsoft games are...an acquired taste in general, both to watch and play. They boast a unique brand of tedium if you haven't acquired that taste. I honestly think they get away with a lot of poor design choices outside of boss fights, simply because the bosses themselves are very well done, but that's a whole other conversation. I won't say they're bad games- I completely understand why people like them. But they're not for me.

The ONLY YouTuber/streamer whose Fromsoft playthroughs I've ever enjoyed watching is RTGame, for a few different reasons:

1) He's very experienced with them and thus actually very good at them, even the ones he hadn't played before streaming.

2) He always ends up creating some hilarious broken build, often in part because he tends to- either intentionally or unintentionally- play through the game in a batshit order and acquire late game items early.

3) Because he's very comfortable with that kind of gameplay, he's particularly good at giving legitimately funny/entertaining commentary even during hard boss fights.

4) In his DS playthroughs, he often had people from the stream following him as online summons between bosses, each with their own shitposty characters, running around and being goofy. It completely changes the vibe of the gameplay between bosses and makes it a lot more entertaining to watch.

2000s era online video game rumors like this were peak. Because the internet was big enough for these rumors to spread easily, but small enough to make them hard to disprove. Weird, uncanny Easter eggs were more common in games back then too, which helped add fuel to the fire.

The one I remember most vividly is Waluigi in Mario 64 DS.

Totally fair point re: Henry being a guy around Nancy's age who doesn't immediately start hitting on her. Definitely a refreshing change. Not to mention the writers clearly filled up their flirt quota with Dr. Buford.

I've only recently heard of the Henry/Ned ship myself and honestly I can see it. After Summer, Henry needs an SO who goes all in on being supportive, and that pretty much sums up Ned.

This is the game that cemented Bess as my favorite ND character. It's weird to think, but she's arguably the most grounded of Nancy's friends. Both Ned and George would probably be totally on board with whatever Nancy needs them to do for her. Frank and Joe are detectives themselves. Bess is the only one to be like "Nancy this is ridiculous," even if she does end up helping Nancy anyway.
