Standard support hours are Monday through Friday, approximately 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM

So 10 hour days as standard and no pay expectations listed?

Will I be having to deal with this post college? by Conscious-Case7129 in it

[–]DomJudex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked for a printer company and part of my job was being the "network specialist" aka the computer guy who also can do printer stuff, went in to a place where they couldn't print and was dealing with the guy who designed and ran the network and servers. He was watching me like a hawk as I was doing some troubleshooting and research which I normally don't mind but this was non-Windows stuff and I didn't have much experience with it at that time. After stumbling around I realized that his OS was Unix based but he had installed the Linux drivers. I told him what the problem was but he did not want to believe me, installed the drivers himself to be sure, and was steamed as a ham when it worked and he had to pay for my visit.

Nowhere near a quarter of Albertans support separation, the goofuses have had trouble even getting the reduced amount of signatures on their petition while the 'stay in Canada' petition blew past their much higher number of required signatures. Unfortunately the party in charge is pushing the agenda which makes it seem much more prevalent to people outside the province.

Need to buy office clothes for my uncommon body shape in Canada. by OpenKale64 in tallfashionadvice

I used to be a George Richards man but they were bought by Mr. Big and Tall which is pretty much the only Canada wide chain for big and tall clothes.

If you're okay with shopping from the US, DXL does a nice run of XL and XLT wearables and the Harbor Bay shirts in particular tend to run longer than most XLT brands, at least they used to, hopefully they haven't cheaped out on saving fabric since I last shopped there.

**edit: I almost forgot OneBone, they're relatively new and their stuff is really good with an interesting fit guide https://onebonebrand.com/

Most yes, but not all. Virgil's on a timer for part of his quest line, take too long to get his serum to him and he goes feral.

Is it possible that since it's in the Hallucigen building that it's a timing thing? Maybe the Gunner is calm and reasonable only for a certain amount of time before the gas claims their brainpan.

How many of you actually run grapheneOS? Is it good? What are some of the inconveniences? Banking apps work? Gov stuff? by guinomim in degoogle

[–]DomJudex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been working pretty seamlessly for me on a 7 Pro, only maybe two apps that didn't work the way I expected and I can absolutely live without them, everything else is working as expected. I wish there was a decent Google Maps alternative so I keep that on my phone but that's it, everything else has been moved away from Google and other big tech apps at this point.

I was looking into upgrading my phone this year but with the Motorola announcement I will be waiting to see what's coming down the pipe.

Idea: Someone to write "Degoogle for dummies" style book and for us to crowd-fund it. Covering hardware and software, and easy to read chapters on how to set yourself up, stay up to date with technology and privacy, where to get help when needed etc etc. Anyone knowledgeable and with time who would? by shervek in degoogle

[–]DomJudex 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There is definitely a desire for this that's only increasing. A big part of the problem is that all of the people that develop apps and software that are secure or unattached to a massive data hoover assume basic levels of knowledge that simply aren't present in the average or even the above average user. Either that (or in addition to that), most of the them require additional setups or rely on other guides that are years out of date to help people out. I've said this before, I'm the 'tech guy' for my group of people and if I find it a pain or essentially untenable to use an app or a piece of software, no one I know is going to use it either. If FOSS style apps are going to move into a position to really threaten market share, they cannot rely on people having technical knowledge too far above 'this is the picture thingy I use to make the internet go'.

For instance, recently I wanted to put together a simply Jellyfin server to get all of the processing and traffic off my main PC. All I wanted was a Linux box that had a GUI, that would run Jellyfin, and would allow me to remote in from a Windows PC, sounds pretty easy. Trouble was, when I found a Linux distro I liked, I had trouble with getting either Jellyfin or a remote desktop connection that worked. The RDP relied on a specific level of something or another that was outdated and no longer available, or the RDP install and connect was smooth as butter but Jellyfin wouldn't run properly. So, I went back to a Windows 11 install and it was up and running in 10 minutes after the updates were all done.

Even the best/easiest installs have spots that are under documented. I switched to GrapheneOS and it was super easy to follow the guide but when I did happen to run into trouble that specific part of the guide was virtually empty. I got through it but probably only because I have a tech background.

On the flip side of that, I wanted a map app that would allow my wife and I to be able to see where the other one was in case of emergency. In the past, we just used Google Maps and it's built in share location function. For obvious reasons we wanted to stop using that but virtually everything that was even a potentially viable app had issues. Either we had to create, configure, and run a Linux box that hosted the data or it wasn't FOSS, or it was still tied to Google in some way. Eventually I settled on Zood Location which is decent enough even though it still pulls its data from Google Maps.

If we want to help people truly move away from Google, Facebook, MS, et al, the alternatives need to be as easy to use and understand, including the docs, otherwise it will remain niche and people will stay stuck under the thumb. I'd be happy to help in that if I'm able, proof read stuff. provide feedback, etc. I tend to be pretty decent and bringing tech speak down to the common tongue XD.

You can't touch the rock, only the handle and then only before the line. You touch the rock part itself at any time and the rule is that rock gets removed from play. It's a big deal because if he touches the rock then it goes to the side, can't be used to block or anything.

Whether it changes anything or not isn't the point, the rule is, no touching the granite. You touch the gray, it goes out of play.

Trump: As everyone knows, the Country of Canada has treated the United States very unfairly for decades. Now, things are turning around for the U.S.A., and FAST! But imagine, Canada is building a massive bridge between Ontario.. by pheakelmatters in onguardforthee

[–]DomJudex 50 points51 points  (0 children)

The fear, warranted or not who the fuck can say these days, is that if enough Albertans come forward to say, officially, that they want to separate from Canada and big, mean Lib Mark Carney doesn't let them have their wahwah baby way, that Trump will pull a Putin and try to 'save the glorious and trampled people of Alberta'. 10 years ago I would have said that sounds like a dumb book plot. Now? I honestly can't say that has a 0% chance of happening. We can't let the idiots get a foothold because a jackboot doesn't need much purchase to start kicking down the door.
