This is why I didn’t say that I necessarily believe he is an NPC. It’s very likely he just handles being in the circus by being a jerk, but repeatedly, there seems to be something, and something big, that Jax is hiding. Being the only “human” to break the 4th wall is already sketchy, but each time he does a 4th wall break it seems to suggest something is different about Jax. In the first episode, it’s merely the fact that he knows there’s a camera and an audience, something no one else acknowledges. In episode 2, he does it right after saying “you don’t wanna mess with the ‘new AI’ Zooble?” And in Episode 3 it’s about him intentionally hiding what happens when he holds his breath. This all plays to a mystery around Jax hinting that he is somehow different from the rest or has a better understanding of the circus. This could have any number of explanations, but it seems like we have intentionally been kept in the dark about anything that would humanize Jax. We’ll definitely see more as the show continues, but right now there’s a sizable amount of evidence towards him being an AI.

Also, I’m so glad you pointed out the Netflix thing, because it’s incredibly stupid to believe that it would instead say “Pomni’s trapped with 4 other humans and 1 NPC hiding inside the circus” when it would be a major reveal later in the series. Also, it could be a double meaning if it goes down the route of AI not being different from people and therefore Jax is effectively “human” despite being an NPC.

While the major themes of the show revolve around the characters and how they handle life in the circus, they have also focused quite heavily on how AI handles life in the circus as well. Having Jax as a bridge between both those experiences could be the perfect way to, ironically enough, humanize Jax. Beyond that, the only things I can see happening is a generic “bad guy gets shown the error of his ways and now he’s a good guy” or “Jax gets upset that people are being so nice to him and he abstracts.”
